THEY KNOW E X A C T L Y WHAT THEY ARE DOING, and they are shameless about it I've been saying it like... Jaal... umm... so not like "all" or "brawl", like - Jahl. "ah" like in "bad", not the sort of long "ah" some English people say in "bath". hope that makes sense plsss no "yall"-type sound. I hadn't considered the Y/Jarl type J as a possibility, that would be cool. Would not surprise me in the least to learn they used Garrus' face as a model for a new male alien romance. I remember how shocked they were to learn women (and some men) were swooning over a turian guy . It's definitely not a bad face to work from . They even have the same triangle, stripe thingy on their forheads. (He also has Thane's earrings from his concept art ) I put their images side by side on my own and was struck with the similarities.... okay, it was the Funko Pop figures, but they still looked so similar and they both carried sniper rifles! Most of us fell for Garrus' voice, but I admit I have a thing for all the Turians in ME and I had major thing for Victus, his son and Sparatus.

I was quite fond of Lorik Qui'in myself. I like the Turian male design in general. I think it cuts a nice, eloquent and masculine figure all at once. Hmmm, I wonder if Jaal's bulky shoulder/neck appearance might be referencing the cowl on turians.... Alright, that's probably seeing something that's not there.

They have slightly curved/hunched backs.

I love it when a voice actor disappears behind a role and I can't place them so easily. I don't know what they do to them, but turian men do have the best sounding voices in the galaxy for my ears . I hope it's the same with the angaran men. A great voice is a stepping stone on the road to attraction for me

I've been pronouncing it somewhat similarly to "jowel" I guess. But I suppose it could also be pronounced like "jewel" or "j'all". He does look similar to Garrus, after seeing those images side by side. Hopefully Jaal will have compatible amino acid chirality, though. Also, in all seriousness I hope his personality and backstory aren't too similar to Garrus. I loved Garrus and Tali, but I don't want them to make Garrus 2.0 and Tali 2.0. My biggest concern with him at the moment is that he'll be too similar to Garrus and Javik. Especially after hearing what people are speculating is his voice. Yea, it would suck to get poisoned to death while exploring. Pathfinder's job sure can be risky.

The Angaran have a weird mix of that and the roughness of Drell I noticed.

I'm wondering if that second long tease was a "testing the waters" situation to see how people would react to his visual appeal.

What annoys me most about Jaal's design is it has every single one of my weaknesses in it, and that's not fair if I want to even try and romance someone else. And I tweeted Gamble about it and he knows exactly what he's doing. THEY KNOW E X A C T L Y WHAT THEY ARE DOING, and they are shameless about it I've been saying it like... I'm in love already and he has a cool jacket and broad shoulders purrfect for cuddles/protection.

I'm not really questioning that he'll be a romance option. I said it in the Twitter thread back when the trailer premiered, but the moment I saw the Angarans and his face, I knew that an Angaran would be romanceable. That design-work with the alien but not TOO alien face (lips, features not incredibly far from a human's) and the pretty eyes is so transparent. When I found out Jaal would be our companion, that just cemented my feelings that he'd be our Andromeda LI. I could be wrong, but I really don't think I am. I wouldn't be surprised if a female Angaran was a possible "fling" romance too because they're even less "alien" looking than the males, particularly in their body (seems like typical female shape, legs aren't as exaggeratedly bent as the males, less tentacles, etc) As for his name, I've said it like 'Jawl' all along. I'm not sure why people are so against a J'all sound? Is it just because people already made jokes out of it? I also agree that while I wouldn't mind some Garrus-y features, I don't want him to be just like Garrus. I'm a little worried about that, because BioWare has a track record of repeating character types that were fan favorites (I'm side-eying Drack for this reason too).

Although I like Garrus a lot I don't want Jaal to be Garrus 2.0. And I'm not a huge fan of Garrus (I was fine with him but he wasn't a favorite) so I definitely don't want Garrus 2.0. But do we want 2.0 of anyone? I doubt it, much as we love our past loves. I am a huge Liara fan but I'm hoping Peebee isn't Liara 2.0 (I don't think she will be; Liara was very serious and an academic; Peebee seems like a curious adventurer and she's more take-charge, with Liara being something of a follower). Come to think of it, besides Jaal's "monocle", Vetra is like a female Garrus and Nyreen. Vetra will surely (hopefully) be her own person, too. Shame we didn't get much from her in the trailer, and it's not like you can tell a lot from Turian expressions (not as much as human or human-like, like Jaal). I guess it's the elf lover in me. I like pretty men as well as rugged ones SAME!!!! Super elf-lover here Though not because I'm attracted to them, I just... I love them, okay?! No matter what universe. Vulcans? Space elves! Same with twi'leks. Beautiful people, intelligent, in touch with nature... give em to meh!! He has lips, Garrus didn't - bonus! I find that definitely helps during kissing. [...] My biggest concern with him at the moment is that he'll be too similar to Garrus and Javik. Especially after hearing what people are speculating is his voice. I think he will be his own person. Has ME ever repeated personalities? I don't think so? No one comes to mind. They are aces at characterization. DA, much as I love it, does repeat types. But then fantasy is more prone to character tropes (the fighter, the healer, the adventurer, yadda yadda) Sorry for the multi-quote and apologies if my post this morning sounded grumpy; I was in a hurry and also on my ancient ipad 2 so had to be succinct as possible.

Artemis My first time falling for the elven look was Zelda games. HUGE Zelda fan! I don't know about Jaal. I keep listening to the voice in the trailer and he doesn't seem to have a personality that duplicates anyone in ME. Also Nihlus' voice is the same for the Turian Councilor Sparatus, so I think that's why I like him.

Ah, I have a theory that if you scratch pretty much any BioWARE joinable character, you will find a BG1 NPC template underneath. With some interesting additions. I would not mind a new take on the more successful concepts, because why not, if redressed properly. Imoen aka Mission aka Mira aka Vette aka Tali aka PeeBee after all continues to enjoy an almost uninterrupted run through the Bio games. I have a feeling we are going to see a lot of Corso Riggs in Liam, and Jaheira will be recognizable in Cora. Will Jaal stand alone, and be his own thing? Or will he borrow from Zenith, Zevran, Garrus, Alistair, Thane or Atton or "Insert DA2/I name"? Part of the fun will be seeing those influences.

Artemis My first time falling for the elven look was Zelda games. HUGE Zelda fan! I didn't play Zelda until I was an adult (on the wii). First encounter with elves was I'm sure through fantasy books. First elf I became obsessed with was Legolas in the early 2000s movies. He's still my favorite character from all six films

All I know for sure is I hope Jaal (if he is one of the m/m options) has a happy ending. I'm still mad about the Dorian ending in Trespasser. "Love ya, but I'm leaving you. We'll skype on a crystal...later bitch!" v.v Actually Dorian's inability to ever be serious during the romance scenes was a huge turn off in general-but that's off topic so..back to business. Jaal does have some similar things about him to Garrus, but he is a lot better looking! Having lips is a must for me, and thus he won that war out of the gate.

It will make a lot of sense for them to poach SWTOR, seeing how close characters like Jack & Kalyio are, or Kaiden and Iresso, etc.

He could have a temper, be a crazy guy in battles, be stoic like Sten and the Arishok or have little quirks and dry humor like Alistair and Zev.

Both the m/m options in DAI were rather "jokey"; it wasn't really my cup of tea. At least both Kaidan and Cortez were fairly serious. Kaidan had a sense of humor, but I think the seriousness of the situation won out most of the time. I am hoping for a Fenris-like romance; some cultural differences (human/alien, human/elf), a serious tone, and a happy ending. Minus the angst; enjoyed it for my Fen-Fen (please feel free to puke now) but with Jaal I'd like a bit more light-heartedness. No constant jokes; I mean I want him to take the RELATIONSHIP seriously, but have a pleasant personality. Which Fenris did not have, bless his little ears lol

Have not met any of them save for Sten, but Sten would be awesome (and, obviously, Zenith as well). This will certainly be the strong and silent we have not had a romance with yet since Valygar's and bao'Dur's got left out. Plus will make a nice contrast with Liam, if Liam is going to assume the mantle of the Riggs-like nice kiddo.

It doesn't make any sense for the J to be pronounced as Y. Why would the in-game translation software do that when there's no cultural or historical reason on our part to do so? J are normally only Ys in English due to defaulting to that language's use of the Latin alphabet, but that clearly shouldn't be the case for Andromedans.
The double-a means it's a long a, so the a in Bra or Father but longer.

Unless they use J for spelling the way, say, the Polish do to transcribe "Ya" as in Jarek, or the wide variety of potential consonants the Chinese transcribe via Q, Z and X, because it is not a letter-based language. I don't know if BioWARE is still creating synthetic languages the way they did in Jade Empire, I don't think so, but well, you never know.

How do you thinl the laguage barrier is overcome with the Angarans? I literally can't think of a scenario where it happens quickly and easily. I know the Nexus got there before the arks did and shit went down there. Enough for Sloane Kelly to be hanging around in a little port that also has Angarans in it. Could it be they already have a limited understanding of english? That being said the lady Angaran in the last trailer kinda made it out like they'd not really seen humans before. But I suppose that could just be because they were on their homeworld (?)
