Fluffy romances are not my thing, they tend to be dangerously close to cheesy. I liked Cullen in DA:O with the mage origins, not a romance by far, but cute. In DAI on the other hand: "The knight in shining armour"-trope, no thanks. I prefer Solas, despite everything, way more interesting storywise. So better a bad guy Angaran with compelling storyline than something meaningless and fluffy. Fluffy doesn't make it meaningless though. I'd classify the Garrus romance as fairly fluffy, but it's still great. Agreed. I liked the Cullen romance a lot. It was sweet and left me satisfied, but there was just enough drama (with his addiction battle and such) to keep things interesting. Now, I love Anders and Solas for story reasons, but... I don't want a repeat of either. I'm kind of done with the sad endings, thanks... (Granted, I always let Anders live and we run away together... but... it's still a little tragic, in its way). Now, I wouldn't mind a bit more drama than what we got with Cullen, but I want a happy ending, even if we have to earn it. The fact that none of our squaddies can die in this one, and that they've talked about the game having a lighter tone overall, gives me hope. But yeah, I hate cheesy romances. (Alistair's can come close at times, but it works well if you wait to trigger it until later in the game, I think. Especially if you get him to hate you a bit before bringing his approval back up... ) Also, cringe-y flirt lines (looking at you, Hawke). I'm all about easy Garrus types where it's an extension of the friendship (well, after you get past that painful first romance dialogue anyway... Shepard, please) or more slow burn stuff that's all stolen looks and self doubt and unresolved sexual tension. Even not knowing his personality, I'd love for Jaal to be the latter... I see Liam as the former, and would love him as an option as well.

Don't get me wrong, Alistair's and Garrus' romances are my among my personal favourites, but I liked Solas' a lot, too. Its just that from my point of view it is not a bad thing if it doesn't end with an "and they lived happily ever after", as long as a romances can get you emotionally engaged at all, even if its not in a entirely positive way. To make you feel anything about fictional characters isn't easy, especially as strongly as for LIs, but there is no fluff and happiness required to do so.

Bull can go both ways. Happy ending or tragic based on choices, and he's my preferred romance.
Unless we learn something terrible about the Angara and Jaal is a spy like Bull, I have a feeling he's one of the happier romances.

As far as I remember in Mass Effect the romance you choose doesn't affect the ending at all. Yeah you can left Liara pregnant with some blue orphan kids but that's it, is not like becoming a drunk or f*ck the pope.

Heh... I don't hate the Asari (unpopular opinion: my least favorite major ME race is actually the Krogan), I just kinda overdosed on Liara because they made her really important without any input from me, where I would have preferred other characters I like better get that kind of screen time instead (or at least also). And now we have PeeBee. I actually think I'll like her a lot, but... they're pushing her so hard in the marketing when I really just want to see more of everyone else. Finally she played a minor role in this last trailer and we got our other squadmates! yay! - and that's the first time that's happened in the couple years since the game announced... So it's not that I dislike the Asari (setting aside the 'blue space babes' trope, I think they're culture and such are pretty neat), it's just that the devs seem to think they're everyone's favorite, so we always get one as a companion, and they're at least a romance-lite, and Liara got her own DLC, and now PeeBee's the star of MEA's promo campaign... Meanwhile I'm like, where are mah Quarians...? You didn't forget to put them in the game, did you...? While everyone was like "mah quarians" everyone forgot about the drell. View AttachmentView AttachmentOh yes! I couldn't care less about the quarians... Give me some Turians and Drell and I'm happy! (And Jaal of course :-* )

It does seem quite unlikely now, no sights of Drells : / But I guess I'm just not too bothered when we have Angara's around, though if ME series doesn't have Drells around anymore that would suck. They are still my favorites and would love to learn more about them, we only had like 3 in the trilogy too.

It's wishful thinking on my part for BW to include drell and quarians. Though it'd make more sense if they included quarians in the AI because of there engineering and scavenging skills but the big question is, would quarians willing leave the floatilla to travel to the unknown when they've been working on getting their own race back on track? And the drell; their numbers have dwindled significantly plus their biology is pretty messed up so maybe going to a new galaxy wouldn't be good for them anyway. Still, I'm very much hoping they're both there. I'm still wanting to have a m!quarian to romance but yeah... Anyway, back to Jaal and his romance. I'm happy with either a lighter sort of romance, as in cutesy, but I'm hoping it's much more intense and sensual

Until then I'll swoon over Jaal. Yep. It doesn't seem like ME:A has that many of Milky Wayan races. Pretty much just Council races + Krogans which is bit shame. They do need to open up spaces for new andromedian species, because we only start with three. Even in the Milky Way we had underutilized species like Batarians and Drells. In a way I hope they go with less, but more developed species and societies, so we get more than a one man's sketch like Drell. I understand the lack of Quarians, because their lore revolves astound the Migrant Fleet. I think limited number of MW species is for the best, since they all will be similar in their eventual cultural breakdown and reinvention of their respective cultures into the melting pot of the MW colonists. I am more interested to see what bio can come up with for not just cosmetic species. I hope we can avoid space Drow, for example.

Hello! I beforehand apologize for my bad english, but I wanted to add a comment about Jaal's name meaning. There is not only a hindi word, but a somali one - and it translates as "ally/friend"! Let's hope that THIS IS the right meaning! I don't know for now how to add picture but you can test it in google translate yassssssssss this is a nice counterpoint to the other meaning we know about ^^

I understand what you are saying, because after Batarians captured my interest in multiplayer, I started paying more attention to their lore, and I've liked the concept of the species and their society more than the Krogans that took up that niche. They were grittier and more relatable to the space soap rather than too fantasy-like krogans. By the same token, Drell imo is a better take on the space elves than the Asari, but we are starting anew, and I would rather get to know species whose past and future are endemic to the sector than listen to more of the "the way things were in MW". Overall, I am in favor of the franchise moving forward, and not bringing up the Earth-that-was much. I do understand that cultural break-down will likely be a theme as we go along. I also wanted to add that what I really want Jaal to have in common with the characters like Zenith, Garrus, Bio Dur, Mordin or Sten is that he was cool, great and awesome to just have along, and not have the vibe of the "he is here so the girls can romance him". Fingers crossed! I also hope that both Andromeda setting and characters will lean more towards sci-fI than fantasy, but that's probably not going to happen.
