This. I'm in the even smaller minority that would not care if Bioware cut sex out completely, but for people who want it, I certainly don't mind that it's there. For me, I'm much more interested in the actual romance when I decide who my character might pursue. I romanced Garrus in the MET and it hit me dead center in my sappy, cheesy, romantic heart. There were a lot of different things that sold me on that romance. The friends to lovers to more theme, especially. By the end of the triology, it just felt so... right. There was also the whole coming from different cultures, not to mention Turians being Dextro. There's a lot that has to be worked around and comprises have to made. It wouldn't be an easy romance (even if Shep and Garrus made it look that way XD). Garrus was also incredibly supportive and never abandoned Shepard. Kaidan kinda bored me to death. Jacob also didn't interest me, and while I love Thane, he never really clicked as a possible romantic partner for my Shepard. Joker was the only human guy I desperately wanted to romance and ME3 only gave us a massively disappointing "in another lifetime, Commander." TAT Mordin would have been a fun romance, I think. Javik was pretty damn nice, too. Wouldn't have minded him being an option outside of the one night stand thing they gave us. That's kind of my MO when it comes to the guys I've liked in ME games. The aliens always wind up being more interesting to me not counting Joker. What the--?! Are you kidding me about Joker?? He was my fantasy love interest, too! Damn but FemShep really DID get everything, even a sweet throwaway line from Joker! /sobs Nope, no kidding here. It happens in the bar when you can either encourage him or warn him away from EDI. It's really easy to miss, too. I forget the exact wording, but you can choose something about other options suggesting Shep is interested. He's really, really surprised. Says something about fraternization and then says in another lifetime. OTL Should be on youtube if you want to see it.

Tbh a part of it is knowing I will always choose Destroy, and I know it must hurt Joker so much to lose EDI. Best they stay "friends only."

Preferred when EDI when she was just the ship's AI too, not the Pinocchio experience.

Eeesh, I liked Joker, but was never a fan of how unprofessional and arrogant he could be at times. I loved it whenever EDI trolled him. He had finally met his match. And of course neither of them could match the resident trollthean Javik. A part of me hopes we might see a savage wit from Jaal, since Javik's withering oneliners were some of my fave writing in the trilogy

Hanako Ikezawa you don't like Javik I could make an airlock pun, but I'm really interested in your opinions on Javik. I actually find a lot of your opinions to be really fascinating, as I love getting to hear another persons perspective on things, especially characters

I still haven't forgiven BioWare for not making Joker an option. Hope for a Joker romance pre-ME3 made me stay on the forums and chat for the very first time. It doesn't help that I found his romance with EDI cringy for a myriad of reasons. That's also why I could never quite join the rather large Garrus super love fanclub. Garrus is my bro but he was always my "eh, if I have to go with someone else" in the romance department.
Basically, Jaal's similarities with Garrus have no effect on how much I like him!

Obliviousmiss , I'm probably in the minority here, I have no interest in sexing him. I'm more so interested in his species/why he wants to work with the Pathfinder. Plus, this race looks pretty cool tbh. I like new shiny things. The aliens always wind up being more interesting to me not counting Joker. But back to the question asked, Jaal interests me for a number of reasons. I do like his design, and I have to admit those eyes of his caught me completely off guard. XD I've been super interested in learning anything about the new races, and while I was originally hoping for a Kett squadmate, I'm not even a little bit disappointed after Jaal's entrance. Will he be the quietly curious type? A proud, stern individual interested in protecting his people's welfare? Maybe a soldier looking for revenge on the Kett and we are a means to an end? I think the sheer amount of mystery is what draws me in the most right now. He's this big unknown and I want to know mooooooore. That I find him pretty and cool looking is just a bonus at this point. XD (For further reference, my other interests in MEA right now, are Kallo, Reyes, and possibly Liam. Kallo is adorable, Reyes' voice can kill, and Liam seems like a fun dude so far. Jaal is def at the start of the line, though.) ^ME TOO I think sex is one of the most difficult "actions" to show in any entertainment media (TV, film, book, videogame...). What someone finds extremely sexy, other people can find it extremely cheesy or un-sexy. That's why I tend to prefer the sex is implicit not explicit. However, I'm a great conformist. So if we have some kind of explicit alien sex I would giggle all day and re watching the scene in secret BTW, very happy to see so much JAAL love. This thread is a marvel. Sorry to be so absent but you people rock

I only ever liked the banter between Joker and EDI. Should have stayed that way. EDI's relationship with Joker was moot anyway, since her real meaningful relationship was with Shepard, if you are a paragon and help her find her humanity, and kind of answer her questions regarding what it feels to be alive. It is Shepard who helps EDI feel alive, not Joker. All Joker did was drool over his sexbot co-pilot *cringe*

I still have a nagging fear of getting Garrus 2.0, just because he was such an enormous fan favorite and his type is such an easy character for a sci fi setting. I'm biting my nails a little over both Vetra and Jaal about this. Though to be fair, Dragon Age was always worse about this (for example, I like all of David Gaider's characters but his preferred character writing style got a liiittle too recognizable over time. I still kind of just see Dorian as a compilation of Gaider's Greatest Hits of character personality quirks). I'm also very wary of Drack being just another typical krogan. So far it seems like it already.

There could be so many misunderstandings and hilarious hijinks to get into over that! That reminds me of that episode of Deep Space Nine where O'Brien realized that Cardassian woman had a crush on him, and she thought he reciprocated because they argued constantly. And that's basically flirting in Cardassian culture lol Regarding least-liked characters, for me that would be Zaeed, but sadly Javik and Garrus are both not far from the bottom of that list lol

So far it seems like it already. I once learned that DG idolized Joss Whedon's style of writing dialogue and I could never see his characters the same again. The dialogue always feels... not bad, but I can see the art in it. I can see it being composed and written. It doesn't feel "real" and natural. *says the world's biggest Fenris fan lol*

Meanwhile the less Jaal is like Javik, the better in my opinion. Javik is definitely my least favorite companion in ME3, and a definite contender for the entire Shepard Trilogy. Perhaps he will be like the Javik Liara thought he was. A scholar, highly intelligent and has a wealth of knowledge on all things about his people? Yeah, but then he wouldn't be like Javik so my point stands. Hanako Ikezawa you don't like Javik I could make an airlock pun, but I'm really interested in your opinions on Javik. I actually find a lot of your opinions to be really fascinating, as I love getting to hear another persons perspective on things, especially characters Well, to keep it short since this isn't a Javik thread I hated his personality. He was a huge jerk a lot of the time for no reason and saw himself as superior to everyone. I get that that is a Prothean thing and his life in his cycle never had him learn niceties but a lot of the times he was that way there was no reason for it and he knows how to at least pretend to be thoughtful of others' emotions. As a lifelong soldier, it also goes against his character since he'd know how important comradery is for a group and yet he is divisive at every turn. He is one of the characters I meant when talking to you in the Twitter thread about PeeBee.

He is one of the characters I meant when talking to you in the Twitter thread about PeeBee. Thanks for sharing, and yes that clears up why you might not like Peebee, especially if she is similar in this way too Javik. It took a while for me to warm to him, but eventually I kind of got this sense that beneath the hard, cold exterior he always tries to maintain, is a deep pain that he is the last of his kind in the current cycle, that everything is unfamiliar and different to him, and that he is in near permanent mourning and buried grief for the loss of his people and civilization. It came out a bit too much as jerky behaviour, but that's where I felt it came from. In regards to Jaal, I wouldn't want him to be Garrus 2.0 or Javik 2.0, not at all. Rather elements of those characters I wouldn't mind seeing, since some of their traits aren't completely unique to them in the wider scheme of things and characters in general.

I... never thought about that. I always choose destroy ending, too, but I also always encourage them to get together. And that's basically flirting in Cardassian culture lol Regarding least-liked characters, for me that would be Zaeed, but sadly Javik and Garrus are both not far from the bottom of that list lol You don't like Garrus? Just kidding. More Turian lurve for me! Maybe Jaal will introduce us to Angaran courtship rituals? When the devs were asked about marriage they said 'not in the traditional sense', maybe that means Angarans do something different. Or maybe I'm reaching really really far.
