Jaal Ama Darav (Official Thread)

I'm sorry to bring it back up again, but I also personally wouldn't like to see a repeat of "Deceased partner/spouse/ex-lover" and or a former flame they are still smoldering over. I'm also not sure how to feel about a squadmate or crewmember's backstory exploring PTSD.

I don't want to get into a whole big thing about it, but I suffer from depression and PTSD, and rarely have I seen complex issues like this be explored well in mediums like video games and tv shows. Very often, cliches and tropes and misunderstandings are whats used to inform the writing and portrayal, and it can be painful to see something you go through be portrayed in an either negative or misunderstood and demeaning way.

I'd love it if I felt these issues could be well tackled, but I don't think they will be personally.

Also, the Mass Effect trilogy is pure and complete escapism for me. It is a beautiful universe I can immerse myself in, play as a character I feel is me, I can be a hero, actually get to romance a man, and save the galaxy. Be friends with such wonderful characters from different backgrounds and species, and just feel all sorts of different wonderful emotions, each and every time I pick up the controller and play through the trilogy. The Mass Effect games have helped me a great deal.

I know Andromeda is going to be similar, no matter what happens. The idea I can play a hero again who can act like me and/or be me essentially, in so much that there isn't the preset sexuality and personality so much. And Jaal as a character, no matter what he ends up being like, is a character I know I am going to love, since I love nearly all the Mass Effect characters, they are that well written and voice acted, and truly, honestly meaningful. So much that hundreds of amazing fellow fans can engage with them and discuss them.

The fandom as much as the games are a great place to be and escape to.

I think what I'm most curious about regarding the character creator is whether we'll be able to change their body type as well, something like in Fallout 4 maybe, not too in detail but sort of a general thing? It's not too big a deal for me but like. I want to know. I think someone asked one of the devs and they gave the classic "not yet" reply, but I might be wrong

What I miss?

This thread moves too fast.

In one of the earlier trailers (from before Angara are confirmed), there is a two-second shot of a few Angara in a very vault-like place. There's some speculation that the Angara also might be interested in the vaults.

I liked the idea someone suggested that the Angara make a deal with the Kett or something? (nothing to do with that scene, though. I imagine this would happen later in the story) I can imagine some greedy/corrupt or maybe just desperate-with-good-intentions Angaran government ppl deciding to work with the Kett because "they had no choice" but knowing everyone would be mad at them so basically manipulating their military or something into actually helping the Kett. And Jaal being manipulated as well, along with Ryder and the rest of the team. And when they find out Jaal is furious and... Idk. It could be interesting, even if somewhat cliché 

This makes a lot of sense to me. Maybe Jaal is aware of his corrupt government and joins you to save the good Angara that will be harmed by this deal with the Kett. Or he goes with you to steal the vault tech from you (because he made the deal with The Archon himself) but ends up becoming a loyal friend instead and betrays his own government.

I think the latter would be more interesting. Maybe he's aware of it but he doesn't know the extent of it? And when he finds out, he decides to work against his government because he sees that he's been manipulated as well, and that helping the Kett is not as beneficial as they made it seem. Or maybe it's only beneficial to the people that made the deal, and he realizes he's been fucked over. 

Making the deal with the Archon himself, though? Damn, hypothetical version of Jaal. I'm impressed. That's some next level betrayal right there. I like that.

Me too! Remember if that is him talking in the trailer, he's very interested in the tech they find, until the Kett or minions of the Kett show up and ruin things by attacking.

If he's as big and as important as some think, he would be the one to make the deal no? Or the lady is the leader and she ordered it and he is playing both sides.
