They look squishy to me (The Angara) and it's cute.
Also if I remember the trailer, they look.. stealth regal to me? Maybe it's just my mind playing tricks on me though.

I think the latter would be more interesting. Maybe he's aware of it but he doesn't know the extent of it? And when he finds out, he decides to work against his government because he sees that he's been manipulated as well, and that helping the Kett is not as beneficial as they made it seem. Or maybe it's only beneficial to the people that made the deal, and he realizes he's been fucked over. Making the deal with the Archon himself, though? Damn, hypothetical version Jaal. I'm impressed. That's some next level betrayal right there. I like that. Me too! Remember if that is him talking in the trailer, he's very interested in the tech they find, until the Kett or minions of the Kett show up and ruin things by attacking. If he's as big and as important as some think, he would be the one to make the deal no? Or the lady is the leader and she ordered it and he is playing both sides. Oh man. I'm really loving these ideas. What we heard him say actually makes sense now? Also I think he's important but idk, not important enough to be the mastermind behind all this. I think, because he has a high rank, they gave him the mission to spy on Ryder, pretend to be his ally and probably steal whatever it is he's looking for. "This is incredible" - he sees the thing they were after, and even he wasn't expecting that. And then the "I have a bad feeling about this" he probably informed his government or maybe the Kett, and while they were supposed to send reinforcements and help him, instead they attack Ryder and him. At this point he's very confused, but he also feels betrayed and once they get back to the Tempest and see the true potential of the thing they were looking for, he's absolutely furious because he realizes he's been fucked over.

Speaking of cobras... What if their tongue is like a snake's? Tbh I think it would actually be pretty cool. But I guess it goes against the whole "peaceful and welcoming, friendly" atmosphere they've got going.

Exactly! It would be a lot of fun if they went this route. I don't really see it being like Bull as a spy either. He tells you he is, but I could see Jaal keeping his true intentions quiet, then confessing the truth to a very upset Ryder when it all goes to hell. Then Ryder can choose to let him join permanently or exile him back to his planet. We know The Archon says now he knows what makes Ryder special and then we see Jaal appraising Ryder. No doubt someone is possibly going to be used.

Catching/keeping up with this thread is becoming like a part time job. On the subject of Jaal's backstory, I'd be perfectly happy if he had none of what we have seen before. No dead wife, no daddy issues, no rebel kid, no incurable disease, just a normal soldier/diplomat/whatever of his people. His 'drama' can come from the fact that he is a new species that we have recently met, and trying to get along with his people and such.

(internal screaming) God I'm so excited for this game and the Angara and Archon and the plot and Jaal and his backstory and everything and I have to wake up in 3 hours but I don't think I can sleep because I'm so excited now Also.. What do you think makes Ryder special? Maybe it's SAM because he's kind of integrated into Ryder's brain or something? Tbh I'm kinda sick of the protagonist "special". Do they have to have some unique supernatural power? That's the impression I got from what Archon said at least

I love writing SAM was always my first thought. The Archon talks like he might extract him from you. He reaches for your throat and everything. Kind of like Corypheus with the Anchor. The Angara already knowing of you and Jaal directly approaching you makes me think he is aware of what you do with the vaults.

No drama, just let my Ryder and Jaal be happy.

Thank you! I will be 34 this year and each day it does lessen. I was nearing 20 when it all went wrong and around 24 when it became a living nightmare and it took 10 years just to stand up on my own feet again. Funny enough playing ME actually helped me cope. I'm just glad with MEA I am so much better now and can hopefully enjoy it without feeling depressed. Ladyconsular, Mass Effect was what helped me through my post-Afghanistan PTSD! I was frozen and couldn't make a decision (even on something as simple as "should I cut my hair") because I was terrified of making a mistake that would have severe consequences. That little dialogue wheel in ME:1 (and then 2 and 3) helped bring me out of my funk to the point that I could function again AND actually wanted to finish something. Even if it isn't a perfect game (but I'm an Old who just started gaming 4 years ago, so maybe I have low standards?) I am so looking forward to ME:A. Now....to finish my deliverables before 21 March..... I am sorry to hear what happened, but so glad ME helped you! I think BW does a lot more and gets a lot less for what they give us. They brought us together as a community, formed friendships and relationships, helped us cope with real life pains, and gave us amazing characters to fall in love with!

We already have Cora Harper for daddy issues (wouldn't surprise me, at least) and our own daddy can be a bit "antagonistic" as well, as a dev has put it. Family is always good for drama, and Bioware loves drama. edit: I type too slow for this thread...

Come on. It's an AI, for one thing. Idk he sounds very unique. Why would he want to extract it though? To use it for himself? Or does it have something to with the vaults? (also wow whoever designed that brain chip should've considered that someone may want it for themselves and cut your head open in the process.) The problem is though we don't know when that scene takes place. We may not even be doing anything with the vaults if it's early in the game. But even if that's the case I think they would have figured out (the Angara, that is) that somehow Ryder is their best chance to get what they want

It seems like they streamlined Jaal in-game so he doesn't look quite so intense (his face seems a bit fuller, for example), but I'm really loving this concept art. Definitely unique from everything we've seen before!

I'm sorry to hear that. For what it's worth, you have great ideas and seem like a creative person! It's good to hear that Andromeda is inspiring you. If you ever start writing again, I'd love to read your work if you'd be okay with it. That's a good point. It's also interesting that neither Ryder's squadmates are there with him? Maybe he was captured? What if this wasn't this first time meeting Jaal? The female voice makes it sound like it, but it doesn't have to be from that scene. What if Jaal is successful in his mission and this is him just greeting Ryder after he's been captured. And then the Angaran "council" fucks him over and he helps Ryder escape or something? OR maybe the squadmates are just not in the shot... Who knows. It could be that we were trespassing and they kindly escorted us to the ground, and their leaders, at gunpoint. It could be that they're very cautious because they're expecting the Kett to attack

It could be that they're very cautious because they're expecting the Kett to attack Tell ya what, if those idea we are talking of don't happen, I'll write an MEA fanfic of it and add a romance with your Ryder! Yeah it could easily be that way too. I suspect Ryder might have went alone to avoid extra numbers to make it less hostile looking. Liam would probably aim his gun at them and Cora would power-up her biotics lol

We all have those conflicting companions, so I wonder who he will conflict with the most? I think Liam for some reason. My bet's on Peebee. She seems very hungry for adventure, and willing to take risks, which he might not be down with. Conversely, if he DOES turn out to be a risk-taker, he might clash with Vetra or Cora, if they're more "lawful good." He might become old man bros with Drack
