I just re-watched the trailer released toiday and, well, the bade guy's name is definetally ArkCon (or Archon, Arkon, Arcon, whatever. It sounds like ArkCon). That has been food for thought for me, since, you know, years ago, the first actual info piece we got in MEA was this: At that point, this was a persistent image. Plus, most character concepts we seen had the player in black and orange armor. Then, tha AI logo appeared and, suddenly, this logo and color scheme vanished from any marketing initiative. The oly place we see the logo in on the AI subsite, and even then is in blue: So, what is the deal here? Could this Archon fella be from the milky way? An ark that arrived before and somehow got corrupted/infected/whatever? Could he be RyDad? Or Jien? Is this just they re-using a name they threw out because it sounded cool?

Is this just they re-using a name they threw out because it sounded cool? That would be my default assumption. 'Archon', on the other hand, is just the Greek word for 'ruler'. It has attained something of a technical (?!) use in new age/gnostic crackpot alternative history BS circles, as the name of the other-worldly beings (extraterrestrials or 'beings from other dimensions') that are the true rulers of the planet, you know, isn't it obvious, the unfinished pyramid and the all seeing eye on the $1 bill, and the illuminati, and the Queen of England is an Argonian, yada yada yada, etc., etc. Sort of sounds like a generic name for 'bad guy'.

I assume it is the guy we are hunting in this video:
It is the gameplay trailer with Sisryder. Should start around 0,35
In that case it is spelled Archon.

Bioware needs to get off this name. They have three villains called Archon in some manner on SWTOR.

Well I think it is fair to assume the kett have their own language, and were probably saying in the trailer that they are "ruler" or "a ruler" of the kett etc. and that may have been translated into Archon and thus the name stuck.
Much like their were different names for Sovereign, but they used Sovereign since it was what Saren called it and they used it thereafter.

The name Archon is used in both Warhammer 40,000 (Dark Eldar rulers) and Destiny (the Archon's Forge in the Rise of Iron expansion). It's a fairly generic "bad guy" name...

Perhaps they dropped "A.R.K.C.O.N." moniker early-on when they came up the name for the new bad guy and decided it sounded too similar? I Prefer the new blue logo and A.I. insignia personally.

That's actually pretty interesting.
Theory: ArkCon was an AI running the Nexus that went all nutso during the 600 years journey to Andromeda. The Andromeda Initiative is obviously not fussed about using AI since they don't mind the Pathfinder team all being SAM's meat puppets.

There is also an Archon at the head of the Tevinter Imperium, so I take it that in this context it simly means "ruler". The Kett probably learned English from playing BW games...

When I saw 'ArkCon' on the thread title, though, I thought for a moment that this would be related to some kind of fan convention.

As I said in another thread, I think we have to find/or stop the Archon because he is chasing and collecting the Pathfinder's SAM tech

I think Archon is suppose to be a translation and not the guy real name.
We enter in a galaxy with alien language. Unless they don't adress that i would guess we use an instant traduction (like with the implants and collected data). If "Archon" is a title, the traduction would find a translation according to the meaning, leader, king, emperor, religious figure and so on...Archon would be the most suitable translation of its title but not the real guy's name.
If it is not the case, it would be a very strange coincidence. And yes A.R.C.K.O.N was a thing and was quickly replace by andromeda initiative which sound less aggresive. (but I really liked the Orange/Black color pattern, I hope we can recolor the armors).

It was just confirmed via Twitter that ArkCon was the original name of the Nexus before it was changed: Mac Walters @macwalterslives Heh, no. Fun fact; Arkcon was the original name for the Nexus. Because it Connects the Arks. Ian S. Frazier @tibermoonWe renamed Arkcon to Nexus the SAME DAY we named the villain Archon. Pity our dev team. Sisona Ryder CR SisonaCR simultaneously? One after the other? Ian S. Frazier @tibermoon Simultaneously. For completely unrelated reasons. Much confusion resulted.
