This is all so disheartening. Hey, here's a hug. Don't lose hope quite yet, and, the thing is, while there's nothing we can do about the ME:A options now, we can send a message to them that it's unacceptable to go down this road, if the worst case scenario occurs. We can tweet them (respectfully) telling them that this was unfair to gay male players. We can decide not to purchase the game. We can decide to wait until the game is on sale to purchase. We can send the message that Bioware shouldn't regress, if they do in fact regress from their previous level of representation. We could send the message that they will lose the trust and support of the LGBT fanbase, if they go down the road of distancing themselves from portraying important LGBT characters. While we are a minority (at least, according to statistics that couldn't possibly include every LGBT person alive), we are not utterly powerless as consumers.

Determining a character's sexuality based upon pre-release info and some footage is a fool's game. I watched a few predictions about DA's romances be dead wrong. Like the folks that thought that Vivienne was going to be a straight romance because she fit the "ice queen" trope much like Miranda. I can say that I hope any bisexual or gay male character that is available does have a bit of the "calm, cool and collected" demeanor. I had a lot of friends in the old Gay KISA* thread from the BioWare forums that would love to see that. *Knight In Shining ArmorIt really isn't though. We have all noticed Bioware (all companies really) tend to make their BI characters the sexually promiscuous characters the BI ones, the gay characters the sassy and rebelious ones, and straight female Mass Effect fans always point out how their LIs are always boring, kind dull etc. It is very obvious Bioware kind of goes for the cliches for romances. As soon as I go news about being a "sexual deviant" I knew he was bi. They did the same sexually promiscuous thing with Zevran, and, Isabela etc. All 4 LIs in DA2 were bisexual. Anders was a romantic and a one true-love seeker. Merrill was a shy girl. Fenris was a tortured virgin with PTSD. Cytherat was an honorable man through and through. Kaidan was a neurotic/boring good guy. My straight romance in MET, Thane was not a shade of boring or dull. My straight romance in SWTOR for a Knight Female was a womanizer that had an option to start laughing in his face, when he brought up marriage and actually loving the PC. My straight romance for a female Consular was a complete nut-case who had an affair with a voluptuous female hologram (and left PC for her). Juhani was a warrior type. Sky was roguish, but honorable. My straight Smuggler romance was a jealous Southern cowboy with drinking problems. I've played enough BioWaRE games to know that they write very different characters, straight, bi and gay. Yes, I am bitter that Zenith was non-romanced, and that out of 8 LI's, only one was an alien in SWTOR. But that does not mean that in another game BioWARE did not allow me to romance non-humans. in some games, I only had straight options, in others - player-sexual or gay. In other words, looking at the entire body of works, it doe snot support the thesis that bioWARE turns out clicehs and more of the same in the romantic department.

They did it with Indira Varma when they cast her as Vivienne. I wouldn't be surprised if they did it again with Ms. Dormer. And yeah, me too.

Working as Intended™ We're not meant to police every last little phrase. We expect a level of common sense, maturity and self problem solving which does include, knowing when to ignore obvious trolls and flamebait, whether that be ignoring in the general sense or through the use of the forum function. Reporting posts or PMing us works too. Trolls 98% of the time attack the marginalized... women, LGBT, people of color. Yet it's almost always straight white guys who give the sage advice to "ignore the trolls." Of course I do not know your personal identity and please don't feel compelled to have to out yourself in any way, it's just, well, every time I see that "ignore the trolls" or "don't feed the trolls" it's often said by people who are very rarely the so-called trolls' targets. The things trolls say -even if they're "joking" (yeah, real funny...)- are desperately painful for some people. For some people, they've been hearing these comments all their lives, and not in a joking manner ("being gay is a lifestyle choice" for example). They are not special snowflakes. They are people who have been bullied and badgered for most of their lives, and they're tired and they're hurting, damn it. It's just a line that really gets to me, sorry. Thank you. Very well said. It's also so very nice when the moderator comes in and says "this is not a topic for sjw". Which has nothing to do with anything that was going on. But hey, some people just throw words around, who cares about meaning or what was the actual topic of discussion. And now, because of this and that moderator's lack of tact (which was probably seen as bias, which I can totally understand), we lost another good person from the forum. Way to stay impartial moderator. Real professional. Anyway, I won't bother with that anymore, to be back on topic, I still need to read a few pages. Seems I missed some info.

He easily fits the professional, calm demeanor of most of Bioware's straight men. None of the other characters you listed are in the ME/DA universe, where romances are much more cliched. I probably should've on clarified DA ME games only, where the focus much more on the characters.

I still hope either Jaal or Liam is a romance for you guys. Shit, I'll take either at this point. I am sorry that you feel that way. I regret that I learned too late not to "settle" for what's allocated for my RL sexual preferences. Those romances are love-stories first and foremost and I will make a protagonist to experience the one that appeals to my heart and my mind. I am fully equipped to be digitally trans-gender-sexual.

Bioware is starting to make me think they want to kill all men, that's why they gave that haircut to Cora. She is their angel of death. I don't think the straight men's situation is at all comparable to a the gay men's position rn. From what we see right now, straight men have all three female squadmates to choose from, while gay men have no squadmates to choose from, unless they prove us wrong on that front. And, if my friend's leak is right, straight men will still have more squadmate romances than lesbians or straight women. I know, that's why I never have a gay character in any Bioware game, after all, the character is not me, you can always play a straight Scott Ryder you know? Who knows, maybe you'll love Cora, Peebee, or whoever else is straight romance, if there is even a straight romance seeing how Bioware hates penises, anyway, you can always love a female romance way more than the gay char.

@knightenchanter Oh, I hear what you're saying. I'd personally be annoyed if they did that again, and I can understand why you're going with that train of thought. Personally, I'll never think that's a good idea. The hype from before DA:I's release showed me how that can backfire. Ask folks that thought that Josie would be straight because the devs revealed that she wouldn't have a sex scene prior to revealing her sexuality or even her name. Her name wasn't released until literally about 2 months before the game dropped, and her sexuality was released 4 months before launch. It was about 7 months before launch when the devs confirmed that she wouldn't have a sex scene. Or ask the folks that were certain that Cullen would be bisexual since he was "nothing but fan service anyways." I've also heard complaints about the human romances in ME for the straight women being boring, but it's certainly not a universal conclusion. I know plenty of ladies that like Kaidan, or liked Jacob as he was in ME2. Well, aside from some pretty cringe-worthy lines. Garrus seems to be a fan favorite among the ladies and Thane has his followers too. The latter has some...serious issues like the Trama Conga Line, but I haven't heard anyone say Thane's romance was dull. I don't assume that a "sexually deviant" character is bisexual right off the bat. Perhaps you're right, but this isn't the exact same team of men and women from ME3. I'd rather give them a little bit of the benefit of the doubt for now. I'll save my disappointment until I play the game. If they do go with the obvious route, then I'll join in in the critcism. Until then, I think it's a little too soon to judge. I'm a cynical optimist. I try to look on the bright side, but I also try not to get disappointed.

Shit, I'll take either at this point. Which one did you want? Liam? To be honest I wasn't really interested in either of them at the beginning. But I had been under the assumption that we would have at least one squad member. Now that that is in doubt, I'm growing rather desperate.

Now that that is in doubt, I'm growing rather desperate. Some people are forgetting EA... EA = DLC DLC = Tumblr influenced So we'll get a DLC that kills all men and removes straight romances So we get a DLC that adds a gay squadmate, hopefully a male Quarian, opposed to Tali hating the fleet and not being a Commie like all those quarians, I know some people don't want a skinny gay alien but they just have to make Gil strong and manly, like they did with Iron Bull and Dorian, and I know women should deserve to romance a Quarian, since they never had one, but m/m needs a bit of content.

Gotta look at the bright side, the bright side... Maybe because there's no gay romance in the squad, the crew is full of options for gay men. And maybe the leaked gay scenes are just flings, or at least one of them, and most likely one of them is bi so the gay npcs aren't completely overthrowing the rest! AND MAYBE there's oooneee little gaylien crew member in the mix that we don't know of yet and he is either gay or bi and the romance is wonderful.
Yeah? Yeah!!

I think I'm going to join the "disappointed in advance" ranks. Kind of. Gone through all stages and now I'm at acceptance. If they do pull the "no male alien for male players" line and explain that because "it fits his character", then I'm not that wrong in my conclusions. Yep, Scott and Sara are both strange-looking aliens from another galaxy. Also, Sara has bewbs, which aren't even noticeable in some armor. Ofc only Sara, go away, Scott, you don't have da bewbs. I'm fairly sure that while their marketing strat can be controlled by EA, nobody was pointing guns at them telling "no gay aliens". For years I was trying to whiteknight Bioware among my friends and on some forums, but our situation nowadays seems really sad. Not trusting them again.
So, how much time do you think will our m/m romance with Gil will last? 4 cutscenes main-game and 2 more in DLC, like it was with Cortez?

Ok all caught up. So no new leaks. There's still some hope I see that we do get a squad member for a gay Scott. Eh. One can hope. It would be nice if Bioware throws us a bone though. Like at least some pics for characters that we haven't seen at all so far. Or something lol.

I hate how this game has been marketed so much. My hope for a good gay romance is so little that almost anything I get will have to be better then I expect at this point? Is that a bright side?

Well, that gives you an idea of how shitty and short the romance is going to be, and since they never have shown Gil before, he is not going to be important for the plot at all.
