Honestly, a big part of me is worried that there's not going to be a lot of gay content, considering all the backlash to ME3 and them saying they don't want to be "forced" like Inquisition and actually have "sexuality make sense to the character" (as if a straight person can look at a person irl and decide whether it "makes sense" for that person to be gay). Here's my preliminary guess, regardless of the leaks (that, yes, I'm aware of but they don't necessarily mean said content will ship with the game): Reyes (if human): gay or bi Jaal: straight Liam: straight Vetra: bi, hoping for lesbian though Peebee: bi Cora: straight with the other gay (or bi) male option being an easily missable NPC, the lesbian being an easily missable NPC, and neither having their own writers I want to preface this by saying I have no problem with gay people at all in real life. That being said, from a narrative standpoint, would you really want to bring gay people on a mission like this? I mean, the main priority is to find a new home and repopulate. With only 20,000 humans coming along, limiting the genetic options seems like a bad idea. Plus, with all the conflict that inevitably breaks out, 20,000 is probably a generous number. I'm sure we'll be shooting at humans too during the game. However, it is just a video game and bioware is focused on being inclusive so I'm sure there will be options for everyone. I didn't know gay people were all infertile. I also didn't know that the only use of anyone on this trip is to breed. Anyways, I've heard better arguments from two drunk housewives in a Kmart at 9 pm.

Do you really think that they are going to test every single person for fertility? Only young, breedable male and female pairs? Sorry brilliant and accomplished women over the age of 40 -- your questionable eggs are not welcomed here! Sorry anyone who has decreased fertility! Only the most virile are welcomed on this expedition! You had a hysterectomy or vasectomy? Stay behind! You wore too many tighty-whities and have a low sperm-count? Stay behind! This is a silly point that just absolutely has no basis in reality. You are seriously suggesting that they will only let fertile straight people on this mission? Because if they can let even one infertile person on board, then your entire argument falls apart. Also, the number for a sustainable viable population is way below 20,000 anyway. Oh, and it's been speculated that the most efficient way would be to send only women in the first generation and have 2-3 generations worth of sperm samples to maintain diversity for the first few generations. By the time you get generation 4, you'd be good to go. So.....yeah, a few gay people aren't going to be a problem.

I wouldn't say it's the ONLY use, but it's a pretty big consideration, you have to admit. I'd think they'd want to screen for healthy fertile individuals, at least for the most part. That said, given the advanced technology, I'm certain that some people will just opt to become parents through science rather than traditional coupling. Gay or straight, getting pregnant shouldn't be a problem.

Because no one is saying that there needs to be a bunch of gay people. This comment was in response to just asking for enough so that the PC can have some options. We are talking 4-6 out of 20,000. And, again, the minimum viable population size is way below 20,000. So, no, it wouldn't be enough of a consideration to play a role in the context that the original comment was brought up.

Anyways, I've heard better arguments from two drunk housewives in a Kmart at 9 pm. I didn't say they were infertile. And I would think a major part is to keep humanity alive in a new galaxy so yes, having children would be a major part. If two dudes want to have a family, fine. But they'd still need an egg that would then share genetic material with any other offspring from that particular women. Just saying, it limits the gene pool. Don't want inbreeding to become a thing in andromeda haha First off, gay women could probably just get with asari, since asari can get with any gender regardless of species. Secondly, there are probably going to be a ton of orphans if worse comes to worse, so wouldn't you rather have a gay couple on hand to raise them, if they can't have their own children, rather than a bunch of straight couples that already have a ton of kids to take care of since they had to "for the sake of the human race"? Thirdly, population's not an issue if you bring enough people. Even then, you can't guarantee there won't be a random burst of births that all happen to grow up to be gay people. There's no point, imo, to limiting the expedition to straight people when you look at it that way, since you'll probably get gay people in the population eventually Fourthly (though I don't think that's a word), gay women can still have children through artificial insemination, and gay men can still donate sperm. Unless all kids have to be born to a nuclear family now.

I think we should cool it with assumptions until we actually play the game and see what there is to offer. We don't have any officially confirmed romances except for Scott. And that's Cora. Everyone else is speculation or like PeeBee, we aren't being told who they prefer.

I hear you and I agree with you. I was responding mainly to the "I also didn't know that the only use of anyone on this trip is to breed." comment. I think that, very likely, there ARE people who are along for the ride primarily to breed. I think some are along because they are specialists in a field and their expertise will be invaluable, regardless of their orientation or fertility, but I don't think it's a stretch to assume a good portion of the 20,000 individuals are there mainly to create a home on another planet and help sustain the human population. And also, that sexual orientation should NOT be a factor in that. Because science. That's all I really meant.

Everyone else is speculation or like PeeBee, we aren't being told who they prefer. I really hope I'm proven wrong. I'm begging for Bioware to prove me wrong. However, so far, what they've showed us, is that they're willing to confirm a hetero option for Male Ryder, but everyone else has to "wait and see." It's very, very worrying. Is it because they know they're gonna piss off dudebros with the gay content? Or is it because they know they're gonna piss off their LGBT fanbase? It's hard to say, and I'm trying to have very low expectations so they're not dashed. It's also hard to be optimistic when everytime I talk about how I want gay content, a straight person comes in to go on about how it just "wouldn't make sense" for character XYZ to be gay or bi. Or how it just "wouldn't make sense" for them to allow gay people on this trip. I don't know. It's just frustrating. Some people probably believe I'm just being whiny. Maybe I am. But until I'm proven wrong, I think I should get to be a little whiny.

Like I said, we have nothing but Cora to go on, and PeeBee is a romance, but no gender specified. Whether we are straight, gay or bi, we are all at a loss right now. Of course you're not be whiny, but I just think we shouldn't give up until we know for sure. This game apparently has a lot of romances outside of your squad.

Ah yes the realism argument, we have dismissed that claim. Funny how such argument often appears in the thread where LGBT representation is discussed. Also if AI is to be succeeding in colonizing, I would guess that human genetic pool is collected before leaving the Milky Way. This way would guarantee genetic diversity and would help humans repopulate if the population suffers unforeseeable loss. I would even image that other animals/plants gene pools are collected as well to ensure that humans have something they can eat.

I think you people are making a mountain out of a mole hill. With that said, I don't think in the world of ME gay people are an obstacle to breeding. With all the tech and science, you'd think artificial insemination was as mundane as toasted bread. For all we know, there are other ways to get pregnant than just peepee in vagoogoo. Though I digress, I'm not well-versed in the ME universe.

Because that's the biggest fucking straw man I've ever seen in my life. Then don't make flawed arguments about gay people on a thread where a lot of gay people dwell, friend. Don't worry, I'm just teasing. I'll let straight people come along, as long as we get some important gay characters and bi characters too.

Considering the Mass Effect universe has both genetic engineering and cloning, we really don't need to worry about keeping or growing a population the old-fashioned way.

Though I digress, I'm not well-versed in the ME universe. I laughed out loud. vagoogoo...

Not sure if I agree with the speculation that Dr Lexi is the lesbian option. After all, we don't really have any indication or teasing or leaks or anything that indicate she'll even be an option (No, a tumblr post using BSN speculation as a source to say that she's a lesbian isn't a true leak). It's very possible she'll be an option, since they even relented in making Samara an option for Shepard via DLC, but there's not really any evidence beyond precedence. As for her being a lesbian, I think Aria is the closest Bioware is willing to get to a lesbian asari, and, even then, she kisses Male Shepard so people still try to argue she's not really a lesbian. I've even had a redditor try to claim that she's "more into Male Shepard's kiss." Imagine the tantrums certain fans would have if they were denied an asari waifu, even if she was an NPC and not a squadmate. If Vetra isn't a lesbian, then our lesbian will likely be a human woman who is a minor NPC. I'd love to hope for Sloane Kelley, since she's insanely hot to me, but I don't know that they would make her into women after Aria was so blatantly into women (with Sloane filling a similar role to Aria in the gameplay trailer).

gaycaravaggio The Aria lesbian thing is strongly because of her close relationship with Nyreen I think. That combined with kissing female Shepard makes it seem like she leans more to females.

I wonder how straight people would feel if I said it "wouldn't make sense" for there to be any straight squadmates because all the straight people in the Andromeda Initiative are too busy having sex to make babies? Not very happy I bet, but you can easily make any argument designed to exclude anyone for stupid reasons. Jesus, am I out standing in a field? Because that's the biggest fucking straw man I've ever seen in my life. But if we indeed start to ponder the whole having babies argument by binary penis on vagina, the heterosexuals would be a prize possession! that needed to be protected. So no adventuring and no harm could come to them. They would be baby boomers! that would be realistic, yup! I aprove of this!
