Okay, three or four days ago I finished ME1 and continued on to ME2. Now thanks to some DLC ( I do not have the Firepower DLC:( ) I hat replaced the M-8 AR with the Collector AR ever since I got the Normandy SR-2. And despite the fact that the thermal clip for the Collector AR has less shots and less reserve then the M-8 I like it. Now last night I did the Archangel mission and I got the M-15a Vindicator Battle Rifle. At first I was happy with it's burst fire capability, and it also seems to do more damage then the Collector AR.
BUT ... it has a slightly smaller clip then the Collector AR, and far less reserve ammo? I realise it is still a useful weapon, but why allow for such low reserve ammo for a AR? I get that with for instance certain rocket launchers and Sniper rifles ... but for a AR in a game with a lot of wave attacks/close quarter combat? This despite the effectiveness of the Vindicator it would seem to me that it is not a good choice for a Soldier build? ( He has the biggest chance of close quarter combat ... well tied with the Vanguard I guess. )

Yes, I sometimes ran out of ammo (I would say this is my fault though since I tended to sit behind cover quite a bit), but the Vindicator is very powerful against enemies in general (and especially their protection layers on higher difficulties and if you use Incendiary ammo). However, you also have other weapons you can choose from or there's means to increase your spare ammo, so running out of ammo is not so terrible I think. Give it a shot for a couple missions and see how you get along with it. I don't know which difficulty you play on, but if enemies don't have additional protection layers the ammo situation shouldn't be that much of a problem.

fessels, I'm sorry... I'm just seeing a blank post... something probably not working with my particular PC... graphics card??
Garnering from fraggle's post, I take it you're talking about the Vindicator in ME2. It is a great AR, my favorite in that game. Later on, you will have a chance to collect the Revanant... very powerful weapon, huge mag... almost so good that it breaks the game.
If you're having an issue of running out of ammo, then collect what you can after a battle, then save, and then reload. The placed ammo will respawn and you can top up using that. The clips dropped from enemies won't respawn, so be sure to collect them up before you save and reload. This should ensure that at least you go into each battle with a full load.

fraggle Thank you, I guess I will give it at least a chance for a while and see how it goes. @upupawayredux That is odd seeing my post as blank space? But you are correct, it is about the Vindicator in ME2. And the Revenant ... hmm good name for a weapon that appears to be very powerful. I will keep an eye out for that one. But as I already mentioned against fraggle ... guess I will give the Vindicator a try for a while. Thanks to the both of you.

Never liked the Vindicator. When playing as a soldier, I use the collector assault weapon until I get the revenant.
When playing as another class that doesn't allow me to use an assault weapon, I use a pistol. A pistol, even one that isn't upgraded, does very well during the mission you're talking about.

I have to highlight it. The text is there, but it's displaying as white on white for some reason. I've had a few posts show up like that lately and just thought they were images that my system was refusing to display. Now I'm wondering if it's an issue with the theme I've selected for this website. At any rate, I know what I can do about it now.

Also, I forgot to mention a couple of other ways to maximize the management of your ammo (and these 2 are not "cheats")
1) You can purchase the "Off-Hand Ammo Pack" on the Citadel. When equipped, it will increase your ammo capacity by, I think, 10%. You have to equip it as an armor piece and it can be a little glitchy... sometimes appearing to not take effect when you first start a mission. If you do a quick save and reload after landing on the planet, it will kick in then. If the mission is such that you can't do that, then it will generally kick in after you collect your first ammo, provided you've reloaded your gun before collecting the clip... which brings me to point 2.
2) Get into the habit of reloading your gun before collecting clips and even cycling through the other guns you've used to reload them. That way you are more likely to get a full load out of the clip when you collect it.

As for method 1 ... hmm guess I will first make a trip to the citadel again before going for Jack, thanks for the tip(s).

It's at the shop that's on the top level next to the lounge (can't think of the name of it right now). ...ETA: after just a few seconds... I just remembered - Rodam Explorations (old mind is still got it!).
