Will we see settlements with similar complexity of locations as Citadel, Omega, Jade Empire's capital city, Manaan? With people to talk to, vistas to look at, shops, bars, small quests and politics? Cities and culture to explore that are something of a 'safe zone.'
Or will it be more like Inquisition, with no hub cities/mission centers, and it's all done from your base/ship? If you aren't in the base, you're out on a mission, type thing.
Asked a while ago and didn't get anything definitive.

It's almost as big as the Citadel, and someone said the bar Avina talked about ( I can't remember its name and I have no time to view again that video) will not be the only one.

who said that? someone official said there'd be 2 bars at the nexus? makes it sound like it will be decently sized. Where'd you hear it would be comparable to the Citadel?

I can't remember who said that; it got lost in all the chaos this marketing campaign is. They tease us with tidbits here and there, without telling us anything useful. But we can see the Nexus is really big. The Hyperion, compared with it, seems an insect. We may safely assume that there will be room for bars, shops and other places in the Nexus. Well, whenever I find who said that bar won't be the only one I'll tell you.

You know, I'd really like to have a hub zone similar to Ahto City from KOTOR. One of my favorite hubs in any Bioware game.

Haven't we already seen in the gameplay trailer Sara travelling around a port area to meet Sloane Kelly? That looked like your typical 'hub world' to me, especially as if I recall correctly there were a lot of icons appearing on the nav at that stage.

We saw in the first gameplay trailer 3 icons for "money" (or reputation) when Sara scan the scene crime. One is for the Andromeda Initiative, One is "JEC" and one is a symbol with nothing familiar from the Milky Way.
My guess would be 3 hubs -AI for the Nexus. -JEC for the Sloane Kelly settlement. -Weird symbol for the Angara settlement we briefly see in the cinematic trailer #2 Of course the Nexus would be the main one, the other 2 offering less activities like Omega in ME2.
The weird symbol is also reminiscent of the triangle shape column style of the remnant, and it being on the scanner could be a research point system, but what would be JEK in that case.

There was a tweet confirming more than one bar in the game, but I don't think they mentioned specifics as to how many or where they were. The one they did mention that's on the Nexus is the Vortex Lounge.

KoTOR is a great reference. Every planet had its own hub and from there you could do the main missions but also had a number of side quests. Often they overlapped which made them both better. Not to mention some elements like the races connected them all. It's a good example of how a minigame can actually make the universe feel more cohesive.
Assuming Andromeda will have many more planets and many of them will not be related to the main quest, you don't need hub in all of them, but in a good number. Also, there should be CITIES. Not only small ports and the likes. You don't need to explore the entire city like TW3, Assassin's Creed or GTA, it can be like Illium. (as long as it not as poorly excecuted as Val Royeaux)

(as long as it not as poorly excecuted as Val Royeaux) yeah this is the kind of stuff I'm talking about. Even just like 2-3 real hub worlds is fine with me. With the new gen consoles though there should be room for some level of legitimate cities. A few smaller outposts on top of the big ones would be cool too. At least stuff on the scale of past mass effect games. the Citadel and Omega throughout the trilogy were fun hubs although pretty small. At least on that level is better than the nothing of Inquisition. Like I said elsewhere, I just hope Mass Effect: Andromeda is closer to KotOR than it is to Inquisition.

Lifeless, static NPCs that are immovable and dialogue that overlaps the subtitles and no random NPCs you can have investigative conversations with in a cutscene. It'll feel detached as in ME3 and DA:I.

Probably just typical BioWare where they market a returning feature as if it's a new idea.
And yeah, I think they meant that the characters will ocassionally be in different locations based on variables like in ME3 and they won't actually move around using pathfinding or AI algorithms like good NPCs should. That's the thing with hubs in BioWare games. They don't use real AI programming for NPCs. They just make very simple pathfinding or even just movement patterns and then the rest of the NPCs are bolted into the ground and completely uninteractible.
They use hard-coding too much. No wonder their games suck up all RAM.

Very static NPCs with one or two moving around in pre-determined parths is exactly what we saw in the VGA trailer.
I believe it worked in KoTOR, even in Mass Effect. But right now in 2017 I was expecting more.

But right now in 2017 I was expecting more. It's felt archaic since ME3 in my opinion. If you don't make up for it with nice cutscenes you're going to see it for what it is: a set of props on a stage and nothing more. Essentially window dressing.

No wonder their games suck up all RAM. This definitely annoys me about ME2 right now... I'll leave and come back to omega like 5 times and... all those same bastards are still in line to get in to Aria's club. And those same salarians are off to the right making hand motions, etc. I'd at least like them to have the game recognize when we've left and returned so that npcs are in different spots even if they are just standing in one place. Would make it a little more believable if we aren't spending a ton of time in the area (run to a shop, buy/sell, and then leave).

Yeah. ME2's hubs feel awesome the first time you're there... and then they become kind of depressing to roam in because it feels like you're just going through the motions. It can feel like this in all games if you go too frequently. ME1 had additional encounters and side quests at a couple of checkpoints and ME3 had new stuff in batches and every time an ME2 squad member showed up but the side-quests were so painfully simple and uninteractive that everything felt empty.
