This was basically one of the best parts in the game for me because I'm such an elven geek haha. I was curious as to why you let Morrigan/The Inquisitor drink from the Well.
I personally let my Inquisitor drink because he was a clan's First and also because, as I said before, I am deeply invested in elven history/culture.

First: Inquisitor (Trevelyan, mage), because seems interesting. Second: Inquisitor again (Lavellan, mage), because his inheritance.
Next? I don't know yet. Probably Morrigan will. (Adaar, mage)

"It's called the Well of Sorrows. Sorrows. No one should go in the Well of Sorrows." Well, I wanted to dive into it, splash and share the consequences, you know, but Lavellan was just too well-mannered to do that apparently. Goes to show where that gets you.

"It's called the Well of Sorrows. Sorrows. No one should go in the Well of Sorrows." This. I always let Morrigan drink, for very egoistic reasons. The guardians telling you, that you will be bound to Mythal, when drinking from the Well and Morrigan is more than happy to play the guinea pig. Even as a Lavellan, I let her drink, in the hope, that she will become enslaved to an elven god - after her bragging about Dalish lore, it semmed like a fitting revenge

Lavellan? She did not trust Morrigan enough to let her have the knowledge of the well and she had trouble believing that Morrigan would be so willing as to share it with others. She had also been First to her Keeper so she thought she might be able to handle the Well's magic and be able to understand it based on what she knew of the elven language.
Me? A well of secrets dating back to ancient times and containing untold knowledge and unknown consequences? Oh, I wanted to dive in before the choices had even popped up on the screen! Oh and I admit to enjoying not letting Morrigan always get what she wants especially when it comes to ancient magic. I may like her but that dosen't mean I'll side with her always and ever on these matters.

Well (no pun intended), a lot of it's a meta-thing. I just love the character arc produced by Morrigan finally getting the power she wanted (since most of my Wardens denied her Urthemiel's soul, too), and in doing so losing the freedom she wanted that power for. That sort of ironic knife twist is just really...entertaining.
In character, it's just pretty hard to justify. There's not a lot of compelling reason to take the Well at that point in the game, so if someone's got to take it, Morrigan just seems like the "smart" choice. It's made even more clear if you recruited the Templars earlier on, and saw Envy's dream about what level a harm a demon-corrupted Inquisitor could perform. Without knowing what "Mythal" is at that point, would a "good" Inquisitor really be able to trust him or herself with the compulsion that the Well brings?

First run my female Lavellan mage who was romancing Solas, was in two minds until Solas declined to drink and then Cole told her she didn't want all those voices rattling around in her head, so she let Morrigan do it. It was really irritating how Morrigan was going on about how much she now knew and she was seriously regretting her decision, until we met Mythal, when she was rather relieved. Then Solas dumped her, so I reloaded and got her to drink just to spite him.
Second run my male Lavellan archer was really tempted because he really didn't want to let the side down having taken on the spying mission himself. However, both Solas and Dorian (his lover) declined to drink and then Dorian said he didn't want to lose him to the Well and he suddenly realised just what he was proposing to do, so Morrigan got to drink once again. Highly relieved when they met Mythal that he hadn't bound himself to her.
I have to agree with others that with a name like the Well of Sorrows it doesn't sound the best thing to do even without the warning from Abelas. If you are a Dalish, the idea of binding yourself to the will of another, does seem to run contradictory to the mantra "never again will we submit" and considering Abelas has emphatically declared "you are not my people", what if the spirits in the Well think the same and blow your mind? Considering you are the only person who can close rifts and your overall importance to the organisation, it did seem a big risk to take when someone else was prepared to do so, even if I didn't entirely trust Morrigan.
I must admit that I find Solas' question about what you are going to do with the Well rather fatuous if you don't drink. I wanted the option to say, "Why don't you ask Morrigan?" I rather guessed that she wouldn't be sticking round after defeating Corypheus, so it didn't really matter what I planned to do with it because it was now out of my control.

I was a mage Trevelyan my first PT.
I loved Morrigan in DAO, she was my soul sister. Doesn't mean I was unaware that she'd hidden things from me on DAO even if the Dark Ritual did save my Alistair romance from an unhappy ending.
And In DAI, she was being shady AS F***. She said we were going after a mirror. Denied knowing what Cory was talking about outside the Temple. Said she couldn't read the Elven Words. Then copped to lying about it while demanding I do a puzzle game. I did walk the Petitioner path. But then we get to the Sentinels and I parlay with them. She shrieks, turns into a bird, and chases their leader. She obviously didn't care if we were successful in stopping Coryphaeus or she wouldn't have risked it all for a personal passion. I mean, the Sentinels could have shot me down on the spot with their arrows for her behavior just then- it was pure luck they considered her actions separate from mine.
Then she proclaimed she should drink, never mind her son, damn the consequences, and definitely didn't think I should drink.
Um. No. Unlike the DR, where she sincerely wanted me to live and love Alistair, this was a shrieking woman with her own plan manipulating me the whole mission who was NOT my Trevelyan friend. It was just a totally different situation.
So my Trevelyan drank.

I had one Inquisitor (Templar) that drank from the well, mainly because she didn't trust Morrigan and wanted to use the power for herself.
In my other runs, Morrigan drank. Most of my Inquisitors were skeptical of the well, especially the part about serving Mythal.

Having the opportunity to finally have answers to so many unanswered questions right at your fingertips? To give the Dalish closure after so many centuries of having their history lost because of enslavement by Tevinter? That was worth any risk, any price. I'd like to think Revas shared his knowledge with the clans at the next arlathvhen.

For my mage Lavellan, she did not drink from the Well of Sorrows because she had that Arcane Knowledge perk. The thought of being subjected to anyone's will, ancestors or not, deeply unnerved her. 'Never again shall we submit', slightly reinterpreted. Besides, Morrigan really wanted it, so it's not as though she was hurting for options. She was aware that Morrigan had an agenda, but that didn't bother her as long as she used the knowledge to also serve the Inquisition.
My Adaar mage took one look at that well and was 'nah, screw that'. She values her freedom far too highly and doesn't feel like it's her place to take elven knowledge, anyway. As long as someone else got what they needed, it's all good.
Oddly, it was my Cadash rogue who drank from the well. She did NOT trust Morrigan, at all, and wanted to ensure that the knowledge would be in secure hands. Hers. So, spite won the day.

My Trevelyan warrior was a very devout albeit reform-oriented Andrastian. He truly believed he was chosen by Andraste to do Maker's work in these troubled times. Even when it was revealed that Justinia was the one who helped him in the Fade, he still believed in his holy mission, for Maker works in mysterious ways. So when the choice to drink from the Well of Sorrows presented itself, he wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole. For one, he's a bit wary of magic. You know the shtick: magic exists to serve man, not rule over him, and Edric wasn't overly enamored with the idea of drinking from a magical pool that is reputed to bind the drinker to its will. Secondly, it's not even wholesome human magic, but ancient elven pagan stuff! Don't judge Edric. He's not a racist, but pagan stuff from another era doesn't sit well with him. When I think about it a bit more, according to modern interpretations, he probably is somewhat of a racist. Deep down, I'm not sure he really thinks of elves as equal to humans, just as he doesn't think of commoners as equal to nobles. There is a certain divine hierarchy and natural order we all have to adhere to, after all. So Morrigan had the honor.

'Never again shall we submit', slightly reinterpreted. I think this is a great point! Something I'll definitely consider on my next Lavellan run. Though I understand why it would be extremely tempting for a Dalish Inquisitor to drink from the Well, especially with Morrigan spouting off about your own history... to your face... and Solas's, for that matter.

Another badly executed quest. Solas states that he believes the Well must be preserved but that he doesn't want Morrigan to do it. But then he flatly refuses you when you ask him to do it - without any explanation why and despite him clearly being the most qualified, regardless of what Morrigan claims. Nobody thinks this reaction odd, considering he makes out like you have suggested something obscene and insulting to him, to the point where he will take genuine offence if you ask again. Its ridiculous, as is the fact that despite being Elven and interested in history, he apparently can only translate certain bits and pieces of the writings, and never mentions any of the stuff that Morrigan claims to have read and left out.
You could have destroyed the Well, or at least let Abelas do it - it is even stated that the Well is powering the Eluvian, or rather that its the key to operating it. So you've solving both problems at once. Corypheus arriving is no issue - the scene takes place right before the final showdown when your party is easily a match for him. His army is losing badly because his forces have been so depleted, and your yours have swelled to immense size. Your advisors are brimming with confidence before this mission, because the tide has so heavily turned in your favour.
People will always make the 'The Ends justify the means' argument, but the game doesn't support there being any such need at this point. You have beaten Corypheus this adventure to the Wilds has cost him the last of his forces, and if he hung around the Dragon would likely be slain (you do have all your forces here after all), leaving him vulnerable even if your characters are unaware of that. With the Venatori quitting the field and Grey Wardens lost to him, he is running short of (what are effectively) respawn points in the region. There is simply no need to accept Morrigan's outrageously suspicious arguments and accept this 'But thou Must; logic for an artifact you know nothing about and which you didn't even know existed half an hour ago.
Not to mention the less than commendable work ethic of Abelas and his men, who eternally guard the well... until someone powerful is nearly at the thing, when he just says 'Forget this, I'm off to Vegas - you handle the well, person I've just met'..

My 'canon' Inquisitor was a dwarf and was already tired of dealing with weird magical shit by that point in the story. Her reaction to Morrigan was 'oh, the you want to drink from the creepy Well? Be my guest!'
Since then, I've had four other Inquisitors who made the same choice, and three who drank. Adaar wanted power, Trevelyan wanted knowledge and Lavellan just wanted the history of her people to go to an elf instead of a human. None of them are very happy with how it turned out.

The first time I played through it I had Morrigan drink from it. Even though I was playing an elf, the game was rather... unsubtle about there being future consequences in doing so. So... yeah, I wanted a guinea pig. I do however have playthroughs each way, just to cover my bases (and to see what the content of that choice was like). That definitely sounds like a decision that could come back to haunt you in another game. Probably no matter how you choose.

I always let the Inquisitor drink from it. Never Morrigan. Reason why is that Morrigan, my once favorite character from DAO, is so annoying through out that quest that I would never even consider letting her drink from the Well. Also in my canon she's got my HoF's son to look after and my Inquisitor is a dalish mage so really it wasn't even a choice for me. I don't want Morrigan to become the next Flemeth/Mythal.

The party at the Well had no idea of the progress of the battle going on outside. They knew the Inquisition and Orlesian armies were holding when they entered the temple. They were initially confident, hence the positive aspects of the dialogues before the battle. But after learning why Cory could not be killed, a stunning and frightening revelation, the assured assumption that they could kill him with numbers just went out the window. What else could he do? They had no idea. It could be worse than what they had seen so far. Would they destroy the Well if there was a chance it could hold the answer to killing Cory permanently? Abelas. I doubt his true name is Abelas. For all we knew, he could have received some kind of vision / message that there would come a time his eternal vigilance would come to an end and he was to let it happen. So from whom would he receive such a message? We know Flemeth liked to give nudges to steer certain events, she had admitted it. Would it be so surprising if she's the one? * The thought of the geas gave me pause. The Inq has the Mark. It is a powerful device that can kill many, destroy the world. The idea of a powerful being, even if she's thought to be dead, able to control the Inq like a puppet is abhorrent so drinking is never a choice. Abelas's reveal of the truth of Mythal showed that nothing can be assumed. Everything the elven Inq knew of the elven gods were flawed.

My initial reaction was respecting Abelas wish and I was ready not to let anyone anyone drink, I wanted to be nice and all and I really wasn't going to drink, but since one had to do it I honestly don't understand how people manage to resist the temption, I had the arcane perk but I wasn't even listening to myself talking about how thirsty the well was or whatever, I wanted it all!! Maybe I could have showed a little more of self restrain if there was another option but I always have a hard time trusting Morrigan and Solas was not helping in that front... From a metagaming perspective, an additional incentive is that I like more the next scene with Solas if he is angry, and another one is that I love fighting the dragon (without having to kill it, for once!) All that said, I have the feeling that drinking was the wrong choice and I'm seriously considering making my first pt in DA4 one where is Morrigan the one who drinks, even if in 90% of my DAI pts I drink, just to be safe

I just posted my reason on the solas thread so out of laziness I'm just going paste what I said here. "My Revas didn't drink from the well but came close to. She was ticked off by Morrigan's arrogance and ticked off by Abelas refusal to help the modern elves. When she came to that well she was like "Fuck you, if you'er not going to help the elves of this time then I will."
The only thing that kept her from drinking was Solas, if you drink from the well he will tell you that he begged you not to, I headcanon that that actually happened. I also imagine that Revas realized that Solas was an ancient elf since Abalas acknowledged him as elven but not her. This realization short of brought her out of her anger to feel uncomfortable and uncertain about the situation. If it wasn't for that she would drink believing that Mythal was dead and that the well would not have that great of a hold on her. There were hidden factors at play that she took notice of and seeing her lover, who very likely knows more then he's been letting on beg her not to drink, destroyed her resolve.
She was certainly smug about it later to Morrigan. "

"I don't want to lose you to a well."
Also, my canon Inquisitor is a Trevelyan warrior, so isn't familiar with magic and all of that. In addition, taking a piece of elven lore made him uncomfortable. If I, as the player, had my way I wouldn't let anyone drink, but that's not an option. Morrigan wants it, no one else in the party wants it, so I let her have it.
On my last play, on a lark I picked the special Magic Perk option where you can talk about the geas, but won't ever pick that again as there is no reason at all why my character would know that.
