If you could romance...

Ideally, I'd want a choice between a human LI and a new interesting Andromedan-with-very-human-features one.

I think Thane breaks the mold slightly; he's an assassin, but he's very lithe, and he's extremely religious, too, and he's an older man... just seems a little different from the typical bro-type they decide to make into male romances. Interesting that Thane was the LI create specifically with women in mind, too... (makes you wonder what the other male LIs  -who had previously only been available to women- were created for??)

Yes, we need variety. Pilots, mechanics, scientists, archaeologists, doctors!! Skinny guys, nerdy guys, cute guys, older guys, just... a variety, something outside the 25-35 year old tough soldier guy mold.

I'm most likely going human romance for first playthrough. Cora and Jien Garson got the body type I like so they're both getting the D if possible lol

Human...'cause anything else resembles beasty-sex. Then again if the humans are DAI "attractive" it just might be a toss up.

I wouldn't touch anything that didn't look human, that's just disgusting. Also includes bodybuilders who no longer resemble anything human.

Since the clone is technically your offspring (sibling?), I would say yes, but you do you.

Anyway, because of its anatomical familiarity, a human seems to be a safer bet romance wise.

Yes, from the ME pool, Thane is a break in the "type". He had many good point in his favour, of course: I really appreciated having a religious character (I appreciated Ashley's religious facet too. I'm a religious person in RL, and characters who have some kind of faith always touch a chord for me.) plus he is an interesting character, give a lot of insight into Drell and Hanar and have a good design.
Sadly, it fall into the "dead wife" curse that is quite present in the male LI from BioWare...  plus, his background follow a lot Carth's from KotOR, mixed with the backfround assissin from the male LI in JE (I can't remember the name at the moment) and I was a little speechless the first time I knew Thane was romancable (I discovered it after my first run at ME2).

I always found myself between insulted and more than a little worried about Thane being the ME team idea of "thought for women" LI. Because Thane was a way too exagerated mix of sadness and dramatic, and that, quite frankly, had me think twice about romancing him. Plus, the ME3 treatment of the character had me delete the ME2 import with the romance. Drama is all good when is much, ony if it reward with the chance of happiness in the end, for me. I'm really not much into drama. But is not the only thing in ME3: Thane really felt like an afterthought, it felt forgotten by the devs, like something that just the fan remembered.

I completely agree about the need for variety in male LIs: Garrus felt a breath a for fresh air, and in ME2 he was little more than a joke. The character who shouldn't have been an LI became one of the most loved LI of the franchise.
I think the ME2 team really had little idea of what a female player may have liked as an LI, and I think they should forget about that line of thinking, and just make good characters that happen to be LIs.   Variety is the key.

Human or species that look like human, But human is my first choice.

Human or Asari.

The more alien a species looks, the weirder a romance arc with a human character gets. Krogan, Turians, Salarians, and Hanar all seem a bit Rule34ish. No thanks! Some species should also have no interest in humans for similar reasons. They should view human characters as being too alien to find physically appealing.

Quarians are the only other species that can be paired with a human character without it being too weird.

Humans, with Asari as a close second.

Yet Bioware already crossed that line. Where is your exploration spirit? There must be some human fetishists out there, since all colonists are crazy by default.
