The Inquisitor was able to tell Sera to get lost at anytime. Will my Ryder be able to do the same to the asari? I hate that, personally. Rather than an approval system where a character either likes you or you're missing out on content, why not have different arcs depending on your relationship with a character? I never told Sera to "get lost" even though I loathed her, because then I'd be missing a companion. That kinda thing really peeves me in RPGs. Especially Bioware RPGs. There's very rarely an alternate way to perform a task. You either do it like the hero, do it like the snarky asshole hero, or refuse to do it at all, and that's sooooooo laaaaaame.

We'll see, as someone pointed out Sera was a pain in the neck to relate to. She didn't want to understand other people reasons or motivation and felt to me really immature if not outright childish. I hope this won't be the case with Peebee. The fact she hasn't that atrociuous accent of Sera is already a plus for me. I really want to like her, I like light-hearted, joyous people. A simple "Grow Up" character arc could've turned her from the most annoying character into the most interesting, but eh. That was my main issue with her. It was just like talking with a wall, either you agreed with her or she would just dismiss your points. Words used on her didn't have any effect on trying to make her be less egotistical and work as a team. There was no development at all. I ended up dismissing her all the time especially after she murdered that guy I was talking to. That crossed the line for me.

The fact that she didn't understand or want to understand people's motivations was pretty damn realistic; perfect example is going on facebook and talking about politics. People will talk around the issue in order to avoid having to face it and will cop attitudes when pressed on it. Sera did the same, which I appreciated. Not everyone needs to roll over and be like "I don't agree, but let's move on." Those stubborn walls made her more of a person than most castmates.

People unable to have a constructive relation despite difference of opinions aren't adult. No IMO those stubborn walls made her a narrow-minded children.

The issue with that is that she's a stagnant character, and stagnant characters, whether realistically portraying actual human beings or not, are boring. It's bad writing to have a character that learns nothing, especially over the course of such a large scale journey like in Inquisition.
She gains nothing from the trip, or from being around her companions. Her ideas or beliefs are never called into question or challenged.
Honestly, when you think of it in that sense, she's really not even a character.

And I feel it's worth stating again that those traits don't make her a bad character. What makes her a bad character is that it's literally never called into question or touched upon. She just remains an ignorant child that can't handle anyone that thinks differently than her.

Oh man I can't wait to read NeoGAF reactions to this. I saw someone loathfully describing what he thought PeeBee would be like, comparing her to Sera and saying she's this "oh so cute" kind of character that BioWare wants you to love and laugh at. It's exactly that lol.
Snow White, I think Sera did change ever so slightly in that she's used to not being accepted. She doesn't take it as a big deal or anything but if you befriend her enough she tells you about her life as an orphan eating cookies and therefore she hates cookies but made some for you because she likes you and therefore likes cookies-- I don't know, but you get the sense that she's sort of used to being a rebel in the shadows who tinkers and manipulates with her red jennies but if you befriend or romance her she opens up a little. Actually she sounds dangerously similar to PeeBee now that I think about it.
That's strange because Luke Kristjansson is writing one companion in the game but not PeeBee I was told.

Not even talking about people I know personally, I'm talking about people in general. You may be fortunate enough to be surrounded by people with grace and nuance, but not everyone is like that. Most people are stubborn and throw up walls; I'm talking about adults over 20 here. Sera is similar to many teenagers, 2o year olds, and 45 year olds in existence. And personally, not having every character agree with me or submit to my will every fifteen seconds is great. I like the approval/disapproval system. I like that Sera can legit get pissed at me for the rest of the game based on a conversation, and I especially liked that was able to kill that jackass Zevran after deciding to not put up with his shit and ignore his demands. If Andromeda gives me more of that, all the better. Give me that Krogan who hates that I hold this one specific view, give me the Turian that might kill me in my sleep based on a choice I made 20 minutes into the game.

I certainly never romanced her, so I suppose I can't comment on that, but that's a nice story, anyway. I think it really only makes it worse that it has no actual impact on anything, but at least there was some kind of effort put in there. Then again, maybe I'm just having a hard time with Sera because I, personally, find her annoying. It has been awhile since I've played Inquisition.

But most Asari have some sort of incredibly standoffish moment to where I could see someone rationalize them as cold in general like they rationalize Krogan as being warlike when most of the ones we meet outside of combat aren't begging for a shotgun to the face.

I think the part that makes me a little annoyed with PeeBee is the statement "she's socially blunt" which I believe they've mentioned a few times. It just reeks of fanfiction to me, that she's this bubbly cute person who's really energetic but also socially blunt. Ugh, disgusting shivers.
I wasn't told who Luke writes but I have a feeling it's either the Salarian Pilot or Drack. Drack would make sense to me because Luke is old and weird but then again, I could imagine John Dombrow writing Drack for some Avengers humor too.

I don't fully agree with the idea behind that post, but honestly speaking, if you wanted to be a pseudo Renegade no-nonsense military man, it would be cool to be given the option to demand a full and proper name from Peebee, at the risk of harming your relationship with her.
And if she actually did end up growing on the player, you might be given a second chance to use the name she prefers later down the line.
Would be a really easy to do and interesting moment of character growth. Both for Ryder, and Peebee.

Since when have Asari been cold? On top of this, aren't young Asari usually super adventurous and daredevil-like? They even make a point of it in the original trilogy. I'm not quite seeing how Peebee is different from normal Asari.

I found info on it in the Mass Effect wiki too: The Maiden stage begins at puberty and is marked by the drive to explore and experience. Most young asari are curious and restless, and it is not uncommon for many to try their hand at dancing in bars or working as mercenaries during this time. Sure not all of them are going to different galaxies and adventuring quite the way Peebee does, but going "rogue" and chasing new frontiers is still well within the realm of what young Asari usually want to do.
