There are some loyalty missions in ME2 that can be attempted and still end with the player not gaining that squad mate's loyalty; namely, Tali, Thane, Samara and Zaeed. My question is, in ME3 is there any tangible difference to what happens or said if these LM's were attempted and failed as opposed to just not being attempted at all?

Tali stuff matters when trying to resolve the geth-quarian war. Or, rather, stuff from her ME2 loyalty mission factors in, as well as if she survives ME2. Same what who you do with Legion in ME2 (turn him over to Cerberus or just allow him to die on the suicide mission).
Lack of loyalty for the others doesn't seem to impact ME3 so long as they survived.

If the evidence is turned over to the Admirals, obviously Shepard won't gain Tali's loyalty, but in ME3, if the player invites her to Shepard's cabin, she will admit it was the right thing to do
With Zaeed, he will die.
I did purposely fail Samara's loyalty mission, but don't recall if there was any difference in dialogue when seeing her in ME3.
Don't know about Thane.

For Thane, if you fail the mission, he's a bit more aggressive when you chat to him in the hospital and doesn't mention getting any visits. Not much changes in the other conversations. My game glitched at his bedside, since Kolyat was there and they seemed to be good friends and later Shepard got to host a funeral, so I'm not sure how that works properly if you fail the mission. But the passive aggressive thing was funny. (Not sure if it that's the same as if you skip his mission).
If you fail Samara's loyalty mission, there isn't much difference in game, at least not in the mission you meet her in. But I think if you pick a non refuse ending, you get a bit cooler epilogue slide.
