Not really a fan of just the wandering around doing 'nothing' aimlessly. Nor a fan of pure hard core exploration games where exploration is the point. I am into BioWare games for deep story and deep character content. Not for just wandering around looking at the scenery. That being said here are days when I do like to vedge too. Open World games, are good in games where you can have your cake and eat it too. You can go about and do deep menaingful quests to engage your brain. OR you can just run around looking at question marks and killing bandits. OR you can spend the day crafting. Sure its ofen not a switch, sometimes you can't just switch back and forth between them, but the options are still there. To essentially have a deep 'meat and potatoes' game or your ice cream in the same experience. yeah that's pretty much why I like Bioware's games too. I am looking forward to running arounsd shooting things and putting my powers to use to see what they look like on the new engine especially the biotics. But I'm mostly interested in the story and characters which look pretty interesting too. Time will tell though.

I'm more excited for the story and characters, but the exploration still looks really good and I'm eager to try out the new Mako. I hope there's lots of cool locations and good sidequests to find out there.

I cannot wait. Like many others said before, the semi-open world exploration in ME1 was what got me hooked. The entire time I was in awe of the environments while thinking I cannot wait for them to improve this in ME2 with more things to do. SAdly that didn't exist in ME2 or ME3. Immersive open worlds takes a game from being great like ME2 or Uncharted to Masterpiece level like Red Dead Redemption, Skyrim, and Witcher 3 imo

I mean it. While I wouldn't say that ME1 exploration was all that good -- really, all we had were a bunch of planets with Dillinaga writings and copy-paste warehouses/mines -- but the atmosphere of driving around alien landscapes was pretty nice. The copy-paste warehouses actually made some sense, because they were meant to be prefabricated structures, rather than unique works of architecture. In real life too, pre-fab houses, barracks, shelters, warehouses, whatever do look the same. The thing that irritated me was that we ended up doing the same stuff in those structures, with minor variations (things like -- shoot the terrorists, spare the drugged scientists). If there was a bit more variety in gameplay, it would have felt a lot more fresh. Exactly. All of those structures would be pre-fabbed in real life space exploration. There might be some tweaks for environmental concerns (radiation, heat, cold, etc) but they would all be similar. Mainly so explorers can move from settlement to settlement and know what to expect from the equipment. It also makes for easier training for the AI travelers. Now regarding game play, I did love exploring in ME1. It was basically a whole lot of nothing except mineral deposits and hazards, but guess what, that's what #space is. Mainly I'm buying the game for these 3 reasons: story & characters, multiplayer, and space exploration. I like my scenes of beautiful space p0rn

What I'm really looking forward is to the story... despite all the skepticism surrounding it. I see that it's mostly being generated by people who have been against ME:A from the start... against it moving to a new galaxy, against Bioware avoiding to declare their favored ending canon, against Bioware even trying to do some little retcons to the old game's lore (as flawed as that lore actually was), against Bioware having been taken over by EA, against the staff changes that Bioware itself could really do nothing to prevent because their people wanted to change jobs.... to do other things with their lives.
When ME:A was first announced, I made up my mind then and there to just parcel the old MET into its own finished story and let ME:A become whatever Bioware wanted to make out of it... essentially treating it like a new sci-fi IP even if Bioware decided to name it Mass Effect. I figure the name is their trademark and it's their right to use it however they want. I fully expect, then, that they will deliver a very decent story-driven RPG with decent combat... much as they always have. It may not connect perfectly with the old one... but in the end, that just doesn't matter a whole lot to me.

What do you mean? The nomad is awesome! Hell yeah, the zero-g sequence was some of the most immersive and awesome gameplay I've ever experienced. Too bad the sequels got weird and boring. Of course it' sawesome it's so damn awesome it dosen't need guns to do it's job Pah, even if the ME:A Nomad was made of nanosuit materials, still would it need a gun. Otherwise, I'm looking forward to the banging.

If exploring makes me come upon interesting mini stories and cool or funny characters, yes, of course. If it's just slaughtering repeatable spawns and collecting samples, I don't see the point in an SP game.

Then they started ruining it by killing our protagonist off screen and putting you in control of a dead guy inside a suit with somebody else's conscience (I mean, WTF). Of course, I'm not judging who likes this kind of shit, to each his own. Then, the nanosuit also started to become the answer to all problems of the universe, and I didn't like that.

Exploration is something I keenly look forward to but it's not the primary thing. For me, the order goes:
1) Story 2) Relationships/Romances 3) Exploration 4) Combat
Combat is the very least thing I care about. I don't hate it - it's definitely fun, but I'll probably play on the easiest setting so I can focus more on the other aspects of the game I like.

We're not an army. We're explorers!
I'm okay with that, even though it rules out having an epic Nomad vs Thresher Maw battle.

there was something about the exploration in ME1 that was never recaptured in 2 or 3. ME1's exploration definitely wasn't good. The side-quests were though and the atmosphere was top-notch. It was worth it landing on random planets occasionally without further incentive just to look at the skyboxes or get the feeling of being in space.

I'm continually skeptical about what Andromeda will be like with its story and characters or even the RPG mechanics. I do however look forward to crafting, looting and having places where I can just explore. That was one of the feats of Mass Effect 1 in my opinion, the being able to land somewhere and discover a compound with enemies in it, kill them and take loot from chests and lockers. Now that mechanics are hopefully on par with ME3 and even beyond as well as the jetpack ability, I look forward to having a Mass Effect themed game where I can just boot the game up and explore and enjoy the awesome gunplay mechanics. Games like InFamous also had me booting up the game just to find collectables after it was over and notice outskirts of the map I hadn't seen before as I occasionally stumbled across enemies. Because the gameplay was so tight I felt compelled to keep playing even when there was no story left. And hopefully it has an endgame where we can go visit the nexus and hopefully NPCs will still have investigate dialogue or at least during the endgame. If I wanted to just wander around and shoot at things, I'd play a Borderlands game. At least there the vehicles are armed.
