More people should use mercy in comp. Her res can turn the tide of any match The Zenyatta/Lucio comp is stronger though, and both of those ults also turn the tide massively. Yeah they're good at stopping the damage, but if you get wiped except for mercy with her res. Then bam

Then bam If the team you play against is at all competent, they'll make sure to kill Mercy (probably before anyone else).

Res, Sound Barrier, and Transcendence can all turn the tide of battle massively. Although with Mercy, she's less useful outside of her ult than Lucio and Zenyatta currently are.
I suspect we'll see her used more in season 2 where she'll have the 20% buff to her healing that's currently on the PTR on top of Lucio's Speed Boost and Zenyatta's Orb of Discord both being nerfed.

With that Mercy buff, & Zen discord nerf, there's going to be a lot more Pharmercy combos being used. Ana on attack assault/ payload maps may be popping up due to her Nano boost, insane ult recharge speed, & best heals-per-second.

I think Lucio is still going to be a fixture in most games. Have you tried playing a game without a Lucio on your team? You move so damn slow. It's a massive change to the game. Even with the speed boost nerfed, it's still a speed boost, and it's still AOE healing. I think when Lucio finally stops being a constant hero is when Blizzard release another hero that provides a speed boost (that isn't an ultimate). But, with Mercy's increased healing output, I think she will see more games. I honestly don't believe this nerf has affected the Lucio/Zenyatta comp though. Those two provide buffs to the entire team, which is too good to pass up in competitive play. Mercy will still only be able to provide the healing and damage boost to only one target at a time. It's difficult to see why a team wide strategy will be dropped in favour of a single target one.

It's difficult to see why a team wide strategy will be dropped in favour of a single target one. I agree that Lucio's passive AoE healing and speed boost is going to make him a mainstay in competitive play until we get more heroes in the game that can actually compete with that, especially on KOTH maps where your team is usually more grouped up on a single point. I think it'll just be we see a bit more Lucio/Mercy mixed in with the Lucio/Zenyatta. With the buff to her healing stream, Mercy will be able to heal for 2x what Zenyatta's Orb of Harmony does, which I think is going to make her the better defensive healer while Zen is the better offensive healer. With that in mind I think Zenyatta will still be more popular because the meta right now is that defensive play isn't as liked as just wiping the enemy team, even if you're on defense. Most defense heroes are currently underplayed cause of this too. Though Hanzo is getting his tree sized arrows back, now with 30% more projectile speed.

The next patch is definitely going to flip a coin on what heroes are favoured for general damage output. Like, we might stop seeing McCree in favour of Hanzo. Genji's mobility is severed, taking him off of the playing field - bringing Bastion back in.
The problem with Mercy is that she can only do one or the other. She only provide healing or damage boost. Not both at the same time, unlike Zenyatta. Even when Mercy was the main healer pick, you might get a minute of a match where she applies the damage boost to an ally. That won't change.
I think, Mercy needs a larger change than just tweaking some figures. Perhaps adding a second stream, so that you can heal/buff two targets at once, so long as they are close enough. Maybe linking the stream from hero to hero so that if the group is grouped up, one stream can bounce between them all.
Single target healing is fine, but it generally doesn't beat AOE healing when multiple targets are taking damage.

I know that Blizzard has mentioned they've entertained the idea of giving her another ability bound to the E button as well. One idea they had was a small burst of AoE healing, but they didn't go with it.
On another note ever since the season ended quick play has become basically unplayable without a group of friends. I used to still play it a lot but now it's filled with "lol it's just QP, let's all go 1 hero and not give any fucks".
Ideally I'd like a game mode a bit less competitive than ranked, but a bit more than QP currently is being treated.

They should have kept the competitive game mode up, even after it technically stopped. I prefer how competitive works, how the matches get managed. It wouldn't be difficult to do. They'd just have to put a halt on any skill rating gains or losses.

So long as Pharah is grounded and the Zenyatta/Genji combo is prominent, Mercy won't be making a comeback. Without the former to keep her safe, the latter will make her life hell.
Speaking of Genji, how is he post nerf?

I need to look at the potential changes again. I have some predictions about what the meta will be, at least at the start of next season; but I want to have another look first.
I have a strong feeling the snipers (Hanzo, Widowmaker and Ana) are going to be valuable picks...

No joke, while doing my 10 placement games, I lost 7 of them because of QM rejects in my comp setup, behaving exactly like you describe here, only not in QM. I haven't played Competitive since I finished my placement games, solely because of the mental midgets I encountered in my brief time with the mode. Now, thanks to them, I'm never touching it again.

I've done a few games where we all went the same hero except for a healer. It doesn't work as Genji's but Winston or DVA does well. S76 was fun.
It does get a bit annoying vs 2 toeborns or bastion. Frankly what I'm more annoyed with is the Matchmaking. I had 4 games yesterday where it put me with people that were under level 20. Who weren't in a group with higher level players.

It's based on skill level. If a level 10 is paired with a level 100, it means either that level 10 has been doing very, very good so far, or that level 100 is a really shit player (no offence - only way I can think of saying it). Level is not indicative of skill. Only experience. A low level player being matched up with higher level players, the only difference between the two is how much time they've put into the game. The system isn't foolproof though.
