I'm not a very good sniper. I always want to lead my targets, but that doesn't work because the shots hit instantly - unlike every other shooter out there. The huge majority of shooters use hitscan for their bullet-firing weapons, I'm not sure why you think it's the exception rather than the norm.

In other shooters, like Halo, Gears of War, Battlefield, you have to account for where the target will be. Not where they are. In some cases, you even have to account for bullet drop. That's why I'm bad at sniping in Overwatch. Because I am used to leading my targets.

Lavochkin. Do you play Competitive as a group or have you only Solo Queued to get that rank? Edit: And I made it to 67.

Lavochkin. Do you play Competitive as a group or have you only Solo Queued to get that rank? Edit: And I made it to 67. Oh you mean rank? I'm just a measly Rank 41, largely due to playing some bad placement matches solo, where I only won 2 of the 10 and ended up in the 30s. Ever since then I play in a group and have worked my way up from there.

If you want to get better at sniping, go into custom game mode, set it to Skirmish, enable Headshots only, fill up the enemy team with Hard level Ana AI's, and then practice away. I basically doubled my scoped accuracy with Widow just by doing this for an hour.

Let's say, those two games put me off playing with another player. I'd only consider playing Competitive if it's with a full group that are all within the same skill level. Only downside to now playing in a group. No group bonus.

I mostly play as the tanks though, and headshots aren't really the primary goal for a tank.

Headshot only is mainly to eliminate Ana's damage so you can focus on practicing your own accuracy, since she can't get headshots. Additionally, by improving your headshot accuracy you're also improving your body shot accuracy.

Before Ana released, you'd do it with Zarya, because she can't get headshots either. Only problem with doing it with Zarya is she runs right at you, making getting the headshots easier. Ana actually moves about making it more difficult, therefore better.

I WISH I was a rank 71, that way I'd actually be able to get a golden weapon, but yeah, I'm Level 71/Rank 41. I don't care that much for golden weapons. I'm not a bling kinda person Of my regular buddies, only one tried competitive with me so we can only play it when the others are not online. When I finished my placement matches I was 50 something but I played a few more to help him finish his and I ended up 56 and him 59. Weirdly my account now says my season best is 52. Ah well I'm fine with being in the 50's. I find it comforting that I'm a decent player and not only carried by my more skilled friends xD I would try competitive on my own more often if my solo queue experiences had not been that bad. I think out of maybe 5 games I played on my own, I had 4 terrible experiences (leavers, toxicity, etc) and only 1 good team. Seriously, I laud the courage or anyone who solo queues competitive.

Solo Queue isn't too bad once you get into the mid 60s. Unfortunately, that player base is so small that you're almost always guaranteed to play with someone that is lower than 60, and those are generally, but not always, the ones that have a problem with losing. I've had some games where it's people higher than me (67, 68 et cetera) that have been toxic, but that's rare. The mid 60's is I believe the top 10% of players, so naturally, most of those players are just going to be good and not be toxic. Toxicity is one of the reasons why low ranked players stay low ranked. It's those players that coined the 'elo hell' term.

Both Halo and Gears of War utilize hitscan for 99% of the weapons in the game. For Halo, everything is hitscan except for the explosives and melee weapons. In Gears, everything is hitscan except for the Torque Bow, Boomshot, grenades, Booshka, and Mortar. Hitscan is what that "hit isntantly" effect is called, the bullet travels in an infinitely straight line, at infinite velocity, for an infinite distance, no bullets are actually rendered in the game. Just about every shooter that doesn't go for realism and authenticity uses hitscan, because for most games it's accurate enough to how real guns work and it's less load on the system running the game because it doesn't have to calculate distance, bullet drop, etc. In Overwatch, every character who has a bullet-firing (or shotgun-shell-firing) weapon utilizes hitscan (so Soldier: 76, Tracer, Reaper, Roadhog, etc), so your shots will always hit where you aim, the instant you pull the trigger. Of those games you listed, only Battlefield doesn't use hitscan for its guns, it does render each bullet as a projectile with its own weight and velocity.

I'm just explaining the mechanics of how these games typically work with their shooting. Gears of War most certainly does use hitscan, except for those weapons I mentioned. You don't even need to examine the game's files to see it, if you aim at an enemy from far away and shoot them with any bullet weapon (besides the Longshot), they bleed and take damage BEFORE the tracer round that comes out of the gun hits them. You have to be pretty far away to notice it, but it happens.

I wonder how far Roadhog will fall once the high-bandwidth mode is enabled. The only reason he's anywhere near as good as he is, is because of the low tickrate of the server and throttled bandwidth.

Gotten particularly good with Tracer. She's more or less my main now.. even managed a POTG with Zenya. Proud of that one.
