These have been pretty enjoyable matches to play but when you get a well organised team against you and you're team are all playing the same character type then it can be very frustrating to play. In situations like this I often find myself outnumbered which often leads to a quick death. You're right I know almost nothing about the characters (I dont even know their names yet). At this stage of the game i'm just going try the different characters to see what their about. So far there have been a few characters that I haven't really enjoyed playing, like the girl with the ice walls or the dwarf with the turret but admittedly that's because i'm a noob at the game right now. I've mostly been playing the robot ninja, the archer and the snipers, their pretty tricky but fun to play. The maps are pretty interesting in their layout, its often quite difficult to hold a particular position simply because there are so many entrances. I'm not too bothered about K/D or winning i'm mainly just looking to have fun. Sadly none of my friends are playing this so i'm going to have to pug for a while. The key in those situations is not to take winning too seriously. Just set yourself a different goal. Try to do your best as a character you don't usually play, or try to counter that guy that keeps killing you, etc. But I agree losing because your team decided to run an all Genji when you wanted to play a normal game and actually to try winning it is frustrating. If you're not in the mood for silly comps just leave during the character choosing phase Also I'd like to tell you it gets better but when I'm in QP with my buddy, we always end up playing support and tank because everyone picks an attack character immediately. xD I didn't like Mei and Torb at first either but now Mei is one of my favorite characters. I really liked that I rediscovered characters by trying them again later. I'm getting better at Zenyatta right now after almost never picking him. Granted, the current meta kinda forced me to pick him instead of Mercy but it's still a good occasion. ----------- PTR patchnote. TL;DR: Genji nerf, Hanzo buff (omgno!) and nerfs Zen and Lucio plus slight Mercy buff in order to restore the balance between supports. HERO BALANCE UPDATES
General
Ultimates that consume the ultimate meter when activated will now drain the meter more quickly (.25 second instead of 1 second) Reverted a recent change to reduce size of heroes' projectiles Developer Comments: Altering the size of projectiles in flight had too many unintended side effects to keep in the game, at least in its current form. We will continue watching this and make additional changes if necessary.
D.Va
Defense Matrix After being activated, Defense Matrix will begin regenerating following a 1-second delay (formerly .5 seconds) Developer Comments: Defense Matrix was too efficient when tapped repeatedly, instead of being held. Now, the recovery delay matches the ability cooldown.
Hanzo
Hanzo will now experience a 30% decrease in speed while aiming (formerly 40%) Maximum projectile speed has been increased by 30% Developer Comments: Hanzo has the potential to deal a lot of damage, but he can feel really inconsistent, even at a medium distance. By increasing the projectile speed, we’re extending his reliable range, making it easier to land shots without having to perfectly predict enemy movement.
Mei
Blizzard The Blizzard projectile now pierces barriers Radius has been increased from 8 meters to 10 meters Developer Comments: Mei has an interesting toolkit, but her ultimate often felt like it was too difficult to use effectively. Consequently, it felt weak compared to many other ultimate abilities. The freeze effect has been piercing barriers for some time now, but the projectile would still be blocked. Now, you can throw it down exactly where you want it, so it’s much easier to utilize the full radius effectively.
McCree
Deadeye Now drains over a .25-second period (instead of displaying a 50% reduction on the ultimate meter when activated and 0% when confirmed) Developer Comments: If players managed to counter or avoid McCree's ultimate, it would often regenerate very quickly since only half of the ultimate charge was spent. Now, this ultimate works like every other ultimate that has a duration.
Mercy
Caduceus Staff Healing Beam Healing-per-second has been increased by 20% Resurrect Resurrected allies will be able to maneuver after 2.25 seconds (reduced from 3 seconds) Developer Comments: Resurrection now allows teammates to jump back into the fight more quickly, which should help Mercy survive after activating her ultimate. Mercy's healing is also getting a boost to solidify her role as a strong, single-target healer.
Genji
Double jump no longer resets when wall climbing Dash No longer deals damage to traps like Widowmaker's Venom Mine or Junkrat's Steel Trap No longer bypasses Junkrat's Steel Trap Swift Strike No longer interrupts quick melee attacks Dragonblade Duration of Genji's ultimate has been reduced from 8 seconds to 6 seconds Developer Comments: Genji was a little too difficult to pin down, and these changes will balance his speed. Swift Strike no longer cancels the recovery time from a quick melee attack, so players will no longer be able to get a free melee attack before using Swift Strike. Lastly, Dragonblade's duration was long enough that it often felt too difficult to reasonably counter.
Lúcio
Amp It Up The boosting of movement speed has been decreased by 30% (from a 100% increase to a 70% increase) Developer Comments: Thanks to Lúcio's speed increase, he was almost a must pick in every lineup.
Roadhog
Chain Hook If the hooked target isn't in Roadhog's line of sight when retracting the hook, they will be moved back to the position where they were originally hooked Developer Comments: This change means that hooked targets will be less likely to slide along walls, potentially ending up in an odd place after they've been reeled in.
Zenyatta
Orb of Discord The amount of damage amplified by a target with Orb of Discord has been decreased from 50% to 30% Orb of Destruction Damage has been increased from 40 to 46 Developer Comments: Zenyatta is in a far better place since the last update, but the strength of Orb of Discord has turned him into an almost mandatory pick. These changes reduce Orb of Discord's effectiveness, but his damage-dealing potential has been increased. The amount of damage that he delivers should feel largely unaffected by the change.
MAP BALANCE CHANGES
Watchpoint: Gibraltar
Watchpoint: Gibraltar’s first checkpoint has been removed Developer Comments: The balance changes that were implemented in previous patches have eliminated the need for Watchpoint: Gibraltar to have an extra checkpoint.
USER INTERFACE UPDATES
General
A new "Allied Health Bars" option has been added (Options > Controls) Contextual menus have been added on the hero selection screen, giving players the ability to report or group up with other players Matchmaking UI is now purple in the Competitive Play queue Made several minor adjustments to typography in the Spectator UI

So apparently on the PTR whenever somebody says "gg ez" it changes the message into something that is either positive or self insulting. There's about a dozen different premade messages from what I'm hearing. Putting aside the fact that trolling people like that is fucking hilarious, it is kind of sad that this was upsetting people this much to the point that Blizzard felt they needed to censor it just so feelings didn't get hurt. They changed Tracer's butt pose so feelings wouldn't get hurt.

I don't really think this is really a "omg our fanbase are getting their feelins hurt" kind of change, although "toxic people are ruining quick play experience" certainly does make it sound like one.

I think the problem is that in this case, as much as I hate it being brought up most of the time, is that the slippery slope argument applies here. If "gg ez" is considered too toxic, where exactly is the line that Blizzard stops at? Clearly they're not against censoring words or phrases that people get upset at seeing, so just how far are they willing to go in the name of doing that? The only reason I think people hated gg ez so much was because it was by far the most common one for people to use. All that this will do is get those people saying it to say something else that's intended to incite rage. Because what they really want is to provoke a reaction out of people.

I mean you pretty much said it yourself. ggez is one of the most common phrases people use to shittalk after a match so it makes sense for blizzard to address people who would continuously spam it after chat (and in a very clever way I might add). There's no real slippery slope to be falling down here, and if people really take the time and effort to flame you with written paragraphs and stuff you report them and then let blizzard deal with them.

I don't really begrudge Blizzard for trying to do something about it given the sheer number of complaints, I just don't see what this will accomplish. As soon as this phrase goes out the window people will just use another one to incite anger in people, and in a month there will be something else people will be annoyed with. Is Blizzard just keep going to doing the same thing for the next phrase, and the one after that? That's where I get the slippery slope, because I know the trolls are going to always find something to say to try to annoy people. but yeah, it's still really god damn hilarious how they went about it. The shitposter in me can appreciate that part of it.

Yes, but given the general IQ of the people that tend to spam that stuff, I don't think there really will be a new catch phrase to censor (and gg ez has been around since like the inception of online gaming from what I gather, so it's going to take a while for something to take its spot, if ever). If anything, people are going to find a way to game the system to type out gg ez, like putting in spaces between everything, or breaking it into two short messages etc.

So I switched to the medic that looked like an Angel - these guys must have been in a party because they swarmed around me when we were in the spawn and they all changed to the same character I was playing. We were supposed to be attacking that round Not sure what the other team must of been thinking but I spent a great deal of time healing others, getting healed and getting revived. Needless to say we lost the round but it was still fun. This might be a silly question but can you choose what game type to play? I haven't unlocked Competitive play and I only see quick play, play with bots or custom play. I thought it might be custom play but it looks like you need to invite players or play with bots?

General
A new "Allied Health Bars" option has been added (Options > Controls) Contextual menus have been added on the hero selection screen, giving players the ability to report or group up with other players Matchmaking UI is now purple in the Competitive Play queue Made several minor adjustments to typography in the Spectator UI Thanks for the advice, I had a weird game last night where I joined a game and erveryone was playing Tracer (that's the fast character with 2 guns right?). Unfortunately, no. You can't choose what game mode you play unless it's in a custom game. That goes for quickplay and Competitive. You can play with bots. If you want to improve your aim, go into a custom game, set the enemy team to all Ana and make it so it's head shots only. Ana can't score critical hits, therefore she can't make headshots. Instead of playing in the training grounds with static targets, using this way can somewhat replicate how actual players move.

I'm watching some streamers play the new map at Gamescom....and I'm just sitting here giggling to myself with Reaper's ultimate.

Instead of playing in the training grounds with static targets, using this way can somewhat replicate how actual players move. I've played a lot of 1st person and 3rd person shooters so my aim is pretty good. My biggest issue is not knowing characters and maps so it could still be good to do what you said above if only to learn how to use the different characters more.

My biggest issue is not knowing characters and maps so it could still be good to do what you said above if only to learn how to use the different characters more. That's really why Blizzard have the level 25 requirement before you can do the placement matches. It's so players can understand at least some stuff about the game, the characters and the maps. Personally, I think the requirement should be higher, like level 50, but I understand that would stop people from playing what is ultimately a large part of the game. As you play the game though, you're going to learn more. You don't even have to think about it, as I'm sure you are aware from playing previous games. I'm still learning new things. Just today, I learned about a small area on Volskaya Industries that is great for Genji, and I use Genji a lot - he's my most played hero. And I didn't use the training grounds or custom games to learn anything that I have about the game. It's all come from repeated play and learning from my mistakes, and keeping up with specifically two Overwatch YouTubers which have helped a lot. Unit LostForce GamingThose two have really helped me with understanding aspects of the game.

I noticed during the flashback to the war there's multiple Reinhardt armours.
It seems like the Crusader Armour was standard issue among some soldiers during the first Omnic crisis.

Reinhardt was a member of the Crusaders who were all slaughtered (with the exception of Reinhardt himself) defending Eichenwalde (the new map) during the Omnic Crisis. The idea behind the map is that the attacking team are trying to recover the body of the leader of the Crusaders. In the map, the same city shown in the The Last Bastion can be seen in the distance. This makes me think that The Last Bastion takes place near to Eichenwalde - which would make sense; releasing this animated short at the same time as revealing the new map.
