Mercy is a Swiss not German though it's probably easy to mistake her for such all things considered, though it was partially given away with her backstory and the Olympics costume. Hmm, that's what I thought but her lines are in German aren't they? So she has a tie there, which is what I was figuring. Googled it and saw the German is one of the official languages of Switzerland though so maybe not, now that you mention it.

German is the sole official language in Germany, Austria, and Lichtenstein (the former 2 of which are EU members), and among every other EU member it is a co-official language. My point is that German is spoken in a lot of places. What's-his-name whom I quoted earlier said it was spoken as an official language in Switzerland (which is true), and I was expanding on that.

BRB changing my official name to what's-his-name XD Well my original point was that nearly ever map has a set of heroes associated with it, and the only heroes without maps so far (off the top of my head and not counting the new map) has been Rein, Bastion, Mercy, Torb, Dva, Lucio, and Symmertra. It's possible they might pair up Mercy/Torbs map, but since Switzerland is closer to Germany than Sweden, it's likely that the devs might throw in nods to Mercy on the new map.

Lucio has the Lucioball stadium map, if that counts. There isn't an Australia map yet for Roadhog and Junkrat yet.

In Switzerland they speak partly German, partly Italian, and partly French, they are designated official languages. Some of them don't understand German at all, I've noticed, when with conversing with some of them. One could probably compare it to Montréal in Canada. It's not so much a country as it is a landlocked federal state, which has sort of made it earn its common "neutral" disposition.

I got so mad at a glitch in No Man's Sky yesterday that I played Overwatch for the rest of the day.
I maybe won one match.
Woof.
Why are my teams always full of grandmas?

Played a map of comp with some friends I made being a badass healer. They had the same comp rating as us but were lvl 200 and 300's while we were just coming up to 100 it went to sudden death and they won on defense. Bad matchmaking.

It was merely surprise at the statement. I don't think we non-German speaking Europeans perceive German as a well spread language here. As it's a subject that I'm not too passionate about, I'll just leave it at cultural perception and maybe that emphasis you made in your original statement. 5 out of 28 isn't just about every EU nation to me xD I agree that Mercy being Swiss-German isn't that relevant anyways.

I just picked up this game up on the PS4. I dont really know what i'm supposed to be doing. Team synergy seems important but the teams I keep getting put in seem to choose whatever character they like.
This game feels like Team Fortress 2 only a lot more tactical.

I've learned that the ineptitude is real in this game, and that there's always enough time for it. You might be "winning" with only 30 seconds left on the timer, but that ineptitude will come in quick and hard just in the nick of time and cost you the game. Lord knows I've had my share of embarrassing defeats....

Team synergy seems important but the teams I keep getting put in seem to choose whatever character they like. This game feels like Team Fortress 2 only a lot more tactical. Team synergy is very important. Unfortunatly, there are a great deal of players that don't see the game that way - the way it was designed - and instead do what they want. As you've just bought the game, I'm assuming you know little of the ins and outs of the different heroes and maps. That's normal, so don't worry about picking the right hero right now. Play to have fun. Get enjoyment out of it. But, whilst doing that, always keep in mind what is happening. What you're doing, what the enemy are doing, what heroes are working well/not well together, et cetera. That will only make you better at the game. I've found that players get the most enjoyment out of this game when the players in your match are playing 'right' - with the exception of playing with a full group of your friends and you don't really care about winning (full team of the same hero sort of stuff). In order to be paired up with these people, you need to understand how things work, and with a little luck, you'll be grouped with them. Also, I cannot stress this enough. Using a mic helps massively! All you need it for is to shout out where the enemy are - "Zenyatta low on health", "Reaper above us", "Tracer flanking right". That sort of thing. Even if no one else is talking, they might be listening, and they might just pay attention. And if you want to know any details, we here will be happy to provide them.

But if you care even a little bit about winning, that makes you a sweaty tryhard with no life who spends his entire day on the game, because "we just play to have fun", and fuck people who want to try and coordinate us to try and win. Sorry we aren't Master-ranked comp players like you, bro.

That's an amalgam of the typical responses I see when I play QM and try to give people some direction when we're losing. I thought the exaggerated and over the top nature of the statement would have made it clear that it's not a sincere response to anyone in this thread.

I get the sense that you constantly have a chip on your shoulder, though that could just be me thinking you have one and me seeing that in your posts. If so, I apologise. - Let me be clear, I might be a very good player, but any advice I provide here isn't in any way patronising. Any tips or advice I give might not work for you, in your skill grouping - it's acknowledged by Blizzard themselves that people use heroes differently depending on where those people fall on the skill ladder (Genji for example is one of those heroes). I can only offer advice based on my own experiences with the game. Ultimately though, I want to help you guys get to where you feel you should be. If any of my advice helps, then I've done what I've set out to do. If not, then at least I've tried.

That's good advice I don't know how it is like for people who start the game now. When I started there was a lot of derping and it was fine Now from what I've seen team composition is important but it's not that important. I've seen completely stupid team compositions win games. Of course when in doubt, it's always better to have a healer, a tank, enough damage, etc. But when you're just starting, it's totally okay to experiment.

Of course when in doubt, it's always better to have a healer, a tank, enough damage, etc. But when you're just starting, it's totally okay to experiment. I'd put most of those games down to the enemy team not knowing how to deal with the composition they are fighting. For example, I have seen, and even been in a few games where our entire team just runs Winston because why not? We're gonna have a laugh. The enemy team starts with a Genji. At Genji's first death, he should really switch to someone that can better deal with Winston. If he doesn't, that's essentially making the game a 5 v 6, which in most cases, always ends in a loss. But, you also have players out there that are just really, really good. Whether that is with one hero or with a bunch, a really, really good player can deal with quite a lot of situations, even when it doesn't favour them. If a team is running a bad comp, but every player knows how to use their chosen hero, they still stand a pretty good chance at winning.

Thank you for the advice kind sir/madam. I have been in a few games now where players would choose a character to fit a particular role, in matches like this I tend to choose one of the class types that is missing on the team e.g. a tank. These have been pretty enjoyable matches to play but when you get a well organised team against you and you're team are all playing the same character type then it can be very frustrating to play. In situations like this I often find myself outnumbered which often leads to a quick death. You're right I know almost nothing about the characters (I dont even know their names yet). At this stage of the game i'm just going try the different characters to see what their about. So far there have been a few characters that I haven't really enjoyed playing, like the girl with the ice walls or the dwarf with the turret but admittedly that's because i'm a noob at the game right now. I've mostly been playing the robot ninja, the archer and the snipers, their pretty tricky but fun to play. The maps are pretty interesting in their layout, its often quite difficult to hold a particular position simply because there are so many entrances. I'm not too bothered about K/D or winning i'm mainly just looking to have fun. Sadly none of my friends are playing this so i'm going to have to pug for a while.
