I've just arrived at Skyhold and get all this gear from Dagna - all the "Allied stuff" - and it's all weaker than the gear I had prior to the Battle of Haven. So what's the point? Normally, gear I get in the trials box, I use right away though frequently it's leveled too high to use right away. But some of the Dagna stuff I received at Haven is Level 3 and powered accordingly. So what the heck?
Also, I took out the Hinterlands Dragon. While looking around, I found the ridiculous "scorched bronze armor." Very weak level 1 armor with a negative fire rating? Again, what's the point?

Offhand. $$$$, especially the bronze armor.
I don't use any of the dropbox / picked up gear any more once they implemented the golden nug. With a mod that gives a huge return if the loot is sold at Haven or Skyhold, I head for the Black Emporium once I sell the first lot at Haven. It's enough to buy all the T1 mats to craft armor and weapons. I did the same once the Inq hit level 8 and 16 to buy T2 and T3 mats respectively. Sometimes I'll throw some of the pick up gear on companions that are not going to be used in the game, just to dress them up.
Even though the toons are supposed to be using T1 items, I craft T2 armor / weapons using T1 mats. The stats are better than any pick ups.

Are those the three red lyrium weapons? I think they were originally some promotional thing that is now available to everyone. I usually just stuff 'em in the storage chest. They aren't Trials rewards, if that's what you're thinking.

You get them right after you arrive at Skyhold. The problem is by the time I get to Skyhold, these weapons are hopelessly outclassed by the weapons my PC & company already have. It's sort of like the stupid way they make Tier 1 schematics available AFTER you've already had access to Tier 2 schematics. Oh well....

Scorched bronze armor is an in-game joke. A kind of easter egg. Like the Fragment Of Inadequate Chainmail.
It's not so much what you do with it or what value it has, so much as the context in which you find it.

Yes, I got the scorched bronze armor was a little joke, just like the "sad splinters" ultimately result in "Mark's mangled mess" -- the banana on a stick weapon! (I can only imagine what wild acid trip led to that! ) The Dagna stuff, though, doesn't make sense. It seems designed for early game but you don't get Dagna until after Skyhold. Perhaps these items were intended to show you the power of runes to soup up an otherwise wimpy weapon?!
