I think one of the reasons for the disparity in the Original Trilogy was the fact that the marketing only ever showed MaleShep (except the ME3 hidden FemShep cover art) and so people who had watched the marketing only ever associated him as the main character, whereas in DAI marketing it was multiple species and genders, so people were less inclined to see one as the main protagonist. Even the cover art for DAI shows a neutral-gendered image compared to MaleShep plastered across the cover.
Thusly, to answer your question, and because both BroRyder and SisRyder have been shown about equally in the marketing, I am going to say 67% will play male to 33% female. I'd like to think that 50% of gamers for this genre are female, but the ME3 statistics don't quite back that up. I'd love to be proven wrong though. Hell, I'm male and I always start by playing a female protagonist.
Nice question!

>make a poll No. Post your speculative ratio for the entire player base of MEA. It's defiantly not 55/45. So... Rather than actual data we can provide ourselves, you want me to put a random proportion just for the sake of it? Good. I guess 3 millon human, 1,437,947 female, the rest male (but don't count Steve. I hate Steve, he doesn't matter, GO AWAY STEVE!!!) Also, 4,000 Asari (female, of course) 75,000 Turians (they are equally nuts, both genders) 300 quarians (female only) 20 female Volus 43 Krogan (all male) 1 Vorcha (female, her name is ARRRRGGGG and she is pretty chill when she is not shooting) And then you have Steve if you wanna count him But don't he doesn't deserve anything FUCK OFF STEVE!!! #DalinneIsSteveophobic #MakeSteveGreatAgain #SavetheHashtags On topic: I must first know what you consider male and female Dutch. there is some very confusing interpretations in some parts of the BSN. But for now, 2559448 male, 1847894 female, 467556 Apache Helicopters And the rest 258765 can get together in the misc group. this give us: 49,86 % male, 36,00 % female, 9,11 % Apache Helicopters and 5,04 % Misc. this looks fine. And now: Kidding, I will lurk in the shadow

I'm sure the lack of female presence in marketing-on the cover of the game had a big impact on the lack of female players for ME. I know looking at the game cover or the trilers I wouldn't have ever thought at the time that I could play with a female character. And is why I played ME1 much later, and only because a friend of mine told me about the feature.
But if I remember correctly, the ME3 ratio was only about the Xbox one. The results from the various platforms about the female charactersVSmale character for DAI said that the playstation have a much highter ratio of female characters, and on PC it was almost 50/50. Plus female players is a market that is expanding a lot.

I think it could still be 70:30 or 65:35 favouring BroRyder. Will be interesting to see an infographic from BioWare in due course...

lol I was actually anticipating a shit storm in here when I saw the title of the post..mostly funny replies! I think it will be a very close 50/50 split..as someone who did not use a Fem shep in any ME playthrough, I will def be playing as Sis Ryder this time also..but first I'll do Bro Ryder.

Probably the same, maybe MEA'll have a reduced percentage since, I think, even less male players will try to play a female pc this time. They tend to always fall for the daughter [sister, adoptive young girl, etc] bait.

There's also the fact that male was the default throughout the trilogy. This may also be the reason more people played the soldier class (it's the default). A lot of people who don't spend much time in the CC probably didn't even know it was possible to play a female (or any class other than soldier). Also, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the telemetry gathered by BioWare is a self-selected sample. It was probably pretty easy to gather telemetry from Xbox Live players, as they are playing online. There is very little reason for people playing an SP game to login, and developers can't collect stats from those who don't.

It was probably pretty easy to gather telemetry from Xbox Live players, as they are playing online. There is very little reason for people playing an SP game to login, and developers can't collect stats from those who don't. I also suspect the stats coming from just the first six months/year or whatever time sample they take from could skew the results too. Because you're gonna get a lot of people who buy the game at or near launch, start it up with the default male soldier, do their one run of the game which they may or may not finish (and isn't there some crazy percentage of people who don't even play past the first hour?), and then never pick it up again. I wonder how different the results would be after two or three years, where you're factoring in people who do multiple playthroughs with both genders. Also, the gender gap has been closing if you look at the percentages. For Inquisition it was 32/68 if I remember right. Now in 2017 we could see something like 35/65 and 40/60 a couple years from now. And as you say, it's possible more people will play Sara Ryder if they actually see her in the marketing. Because I suspect for those players who go in after seeing just a couple trailers and that one magazine article, they'll go with the familiar character. If they only see Scott they'll pick him, but if they've also seen Sara they might be more open to choosing her. Now, not saying if you factored all this stuff in you'd get to 50/50 split, but you might see that gap in which gender people choose to play as shrink a bit. Of course, the OP actually wanted to know if chicks really do play games. But that question is dumb. See my answer (featuring nifty Delorean gif) on the first page.

Lets guess. For the original series - As of March, 2013, 82% of Mass Effect players play a male Commander Shepard (according to Bioware's statistics).[11] So an 82-18 combined statistical male-female ratio for all three games. What do you think MEA's ratio will be? I think about 80-20. ME is traditionally a male oriented franchise unlike DA for instance which is 1/3 female in player based.
Probably the same or even more in favor of the male sibling for no other reason than Sara (along with Cora) look like Thunderbird puppets.

I think it will be between 60M:40F and 70M:30F. I think the fact that people know you can play a female protagonist(because of marketing like some one said up thread), you'll have a lot of people who will play Sara first.

finally a shitposting thread I can get behind.
I'm gonna go a step further. Let's discuss transgender players. I'm predicting 33%/67% split towards female Ryder in that player demographic.

The OP, Dutch is a rather infamous person from the oldBSN that either makes trollthreads (and then never comment in it again) or troll comments that in some way is "proving" that Bioware are bad at making games. People have started to respond to his threads with "Hi Dutch" as a way to make fun of it. Hope that helps.

Are you asking for the gender make-up of the player base? Or how many people will play as broRyder or sisRyder?
I'd say an 80-20 split is probably fairly accurate for the player base, but I imagine the split is 70-30 for broRyder/sisRyder.

Skewed by the Xbox. I wonder what it is about that console - maybe it's the marketing strategy Microsoft used to sell it? For me I got into the Xbox because it was what my dad preferred over PlayStation, so marketing didn't capture me but Microsoft's marketing tend to be feature games for the Xbox that tend to be more FPS or Sports games which attract more male players (especially for the Xbox one, with partnerships with the NFL when originally announced. I don't remember the marketing for the 360 but I assume it wasn't too different). Thus causing the population of people playing games like Mass Effect to be skewed towards males. I rarely see RPGs or other genres that are more likely to attract female gamers marketed, that seems to be Sony's marketing strategy I've noticed.
