Is any one else concerned that the number of Andromeda's races is going to be paltry when compared to the original Mass Effect?
The launch trailer for the original Mass Effect featured turians, krogan, asari, and geth and we learned about the elcor before the release date as well.
To date, we have been told about (and shown) only *TWO* races so far: the kett and angarans. Both are organic, bipedal and relatively hominoid in appearance.
Now, I'm 100% certain that we will encounter at *least* one more race in Andromeda that they are keeping as a surprise, but I have a sinking feeling that Andromeda is not going to have nearly as diverse a number of races as the original Mass Effect. And that makes me a bit sad.
The other thing that makes me sad is that we only get ONE Andromedan squadmate...
Honestly, instead of another turian/krogan/asari, I would have preferred a raloi squadmate (the avian race native to the Milky Way that was never actually shown in the Mass Effect series).
Does anyone else share my sentiments?

Mass Effect: Andromeda only takes place in a single star cluster, not an entire galaxy. Having three different species in a single cluster is actually pretty dense compared to the Milky Way. As we expand further into Andromeda in future games, I'm certain we'll see more. And that's just the native races, not counting those Milky Way races that will be in the game as well.

That's a good point, I forgot that it took place in a single cluster, but it doesn't change the fact that the races we've been shown so far aren't exactly groundbreaking in terms of their design. The design of the hanar and elcor were more what I was hoping for: something truly alien, and not resembling humans in any way. Scientists have speculated that other life forms could be silicon based instead of made of carbon.

In ME1 we had an Asari, Krogan, Turian and Quarian as alien squadmates, but ME2 opened us up to a Salarian, Drell and a Geth and then a Prothean in ME3. My guess is, in a future game or DLC we could see a Kett squadmate or a new alien race, but this is just the first game.

They look just as alien as those races you mentioned if not more so. Then there are the creatures like the Fiends.

And the Remnant just seems like the love child between Prothean and Geth

If it's only three new races, that can easily be explained by the fact we're only visiting one cluster. That said, people will bitch anyway.

We have 6 weeks to go - see what other info they release. Maybe another race? I'm sure there are surprises for us. P.S. Really wanted a Hanar squadmate

Well we've seen that Fiend creature. Would be cool to learn how to tame one as a pet and roam around with your squad. I wrote in the DLC thread but I want a character/ race similar to Howitzer from paragon where it's small and fury but vasty intelligent/ skilled with tech. (or something like rocket and groot that play as one character)

One thing I've learned about BSN: for every piece of information there's someone who will bitch about it. They could introduce twenty new races with unique designs and cultures, and someone would complain that all that development took away too much of the writers' time from romances.

That sounds like it would be a legitimate reason to complain. Plus, everyone is entitled their opinion and freedom of speech gives them the ability to vocalize it. If you don't think it's a bit disappointing to only get three new races to meet instead of the 10 we had in ME1, then just say so and move on or ignore this thread.

There's no reason to assume that the number of Andromeda races will be any less than what comes along from the Milky Way.

Lack of races? For sure; KoTOR had Swoop Bike Racing, ME has never had something of the sort.

As Hanako says, we are only one cluster. Also, remember they intend to bring this new game to new players too. For us, the new sentient races are only two (Kett and Angara) but for a new player with no knowledge of Mass Effect Universe in the last trailer s/he saw Asari, Turian, Krogan, Salarian

We know that the Nexus get closer to completion the more non hostile races you bring to this Super Station / Citadel Hub. Evidence, to me, that we will encounter many more cluster races. Plus, the fact that we only have six of the seven team members with the 7th being a Helius cluster space babe, imo.
So far: PB, Liam, Cora, Drack, Vetra, Jaal and ?????

I expect that as the game progress into sequels, new species we'll discover will become more numerous and play a more important role. Going to Andromeda makes it harder for BioWare to pull a Star Wars trick, and easily add species by recolouring the humans green, blue, pink or whatever.
The designs will become more complicated as they run out of distinctive enough cultures and looks.
On a totally unrelated note, I am going to miss Batarians....

But since we're bringing along so many, it wouldn't make sense to over-saturate things with a large variety of new races. Not to mention it'd be very expensive to develop them.

OP, I think it's best to see what's in the final game before hitting the panic button, since we've been over endowed with so much marketing material at this point and have been shown crazy amounts of in game footage and Helios cluster lore beats. /s

Yes I agree with the OP, there are too few races shown and I hope they will show more races. I dislike the way that people think its legitimate to say that the andromeda intiative is only in one star cluster and that justifies the too few races. Its a story written bu writers. They coud have written a single star cluster or an entire galaxy. Its make believe. The writers then, you are saying, put limits on the number of alien races through a narrative trick when they didn't have to. The writers could write whatever they wanted. They could have written for instance, that the andromeda species had advanced FTL so they could travel all over the galaxy without mass relays. So then you could have had a story with 2 dozen new races. Or the andromeda intiative could have ended up in a systems alliance in andromeda where multiple species collaborated. Theres no real reason to only have 3 races. Only the limits the writers apply themselves to the story. Part of the fun of ME1 was learning about new civilisations and new societies. Not exploring barren worlds or the same species again and again. Do you know what I mean?
