Hello, I am a fairly new player to Mass Effect. I played the game a couple of times now. (It is the best game series I have ever played ) I still don't quite understand how Mass Effect's reputation system actually works. I always really play how I feel like and how I would act in that situation. Like punching the admiral in ME3 lol what an ass Some choices are grayed out. For Example: In Tali's loyalty mission in ME2 where the renegade and paragon choices are grayed out. I assume these choices make Tali loyal while not making her exiled and not revealing her father's secrets.
Or when Miranda and Jack fight and I can't make be neutral because of the grayed choices.
Or not being able to "out-evil" Morinth I assume it has to do with how much Paragon/Renegade I have. I usually have majority Paragon and 25% - 50% Renegade. I don't know if the choices require me to have 100% of a reputation. I originally played the games the first time on PC, but I prefer the console versions. I know in PC i can use a save editor, but fuck it. I plan to buy all the DLC maybe that will help. Update 3/3/17 I didn't want to bump this so I'll just do an edit. You cannot use save editor on the Xbox one. However, I was able to get all the choices that concerned me without having to do a full paragon or renegade. I followed pretty closely to what I usually played. Maybe with some slight differences, but still pretty much a mixed 90% paragon 50% renegade.

It's been a while so take this with some salt, but I think you have to have 75% renegade to use intimidate options, and 75% paragon for persuasions. It's obviously flawed in that it discourages a more balanced character. That's why in ME3 you don't get paragon/renegade points, but only "reputation" points for doing either type of action. This way, as long as you have enough, you can do charm or intimidate options whenever. Also, if you're on the xbox, you can indeed use a save editor.

I remember by the time I got to the suicide mission i had about maybe 85% paragon (about a quarter of the way above the last level of paragon). I could not talk down Jack after the Miranda/Jack fight, but I could calm Legion and Tali down so i don't know. Also, I found out that you can only transfer data through drives if I have a 256gb drive or more on the Xbone. So I won't be using a save editor on there for now I heard that there is a glitch you can do when you meet Jacob for the first time where you can farm rep points, but I heard it takes hours.

This post should help you understand the Mass Effect 2 persuasion system.

So, if I understood correctly:
If I want to do Tali's mission; I will have to do it as early as possible and staying almost strictly one-sided?
So much for roleplaying

I heard that there is a glitch you can do when you meet Jacob for the first time where you can farm rep points, but I heard it takes hours. Well, workarounds can be tedious, but if you edit your Xbox 360 saves using the editor, you could then upload them to the cloud and retrieve them on the One that way. It's not technically modding, it's just another save file to the system, so it will work.

I probably won't get to ME2 until after Andromeda (or slightly before). I could either get my 360 to work, buy a new 360, buy a 1tb drive, or play ME2 normally and hope for the best.
Should be fun?

So I won't be using a save editor on there for now I heard that there is a glitch you can do when you meet Jacob for the first time where you can farm rep points, but I heard it takes hours. The P/R glitch occurs right after you meet Wilson. If you let the conversation run but then save before progress beyond the crates where you blow up the mechs using Wilson's overload and then reload the save file, that conversation will repeat... allowing you to get up to 4 paragon or 4 renegade (or 2 and 2) each time you go through the conversation. Of course, you can "x' your way through, cutting the actual dialogue short which can speed things up quite a bit. I play on an Xbox and have sometimes used this glitch to "replace" the 190 point P/R ME1 import bonus when I'm playing an NG+ plus game. If I'm really clocking it and getting 2 points each way each time, I can get about 20 points of each for every 5 minutes of game time shown on the game play clock (of course, the actual time taken is longer because of the time it takes for each save to reload). I find though that the 190-point bonus is generally sufficient to enable me to do what I want roleplay wise. Of course, if you want a larger buffer than that, it will take longer to accumulate it.

The import bonuses are pretty helpful for giving a little more flexibility in conversations as far as passing the checks. Also the bonus to persuasion in passive and from the Death Mask (Ratch's shop) can boost your score a bit.
For Tali's mission, you can also potentially use the "Rally the Crowd" option, which has the same end result as the charm or intimidate depending on your plot choices (let Quarians take Veetor, saved Reegar, talked to them and Admirals before Alarei).

When I played the Xbox One version I had a weird glitch were Veetor and Reegar were missing (though the hud said I could talk to them both) and skipped the entire admiral section and I had to talk to the guard to go find Tali father. That's probably why I didn't have that option. I can probably fix that by reloading since I had a similar problem when I played on PC and that fixed it.

I actually got my piece of shit 360 to work holy crap! I might actually be able to use save edit after all. I don't know how long it might work though. I had a red ring so I cleaned the dusty piece of trash and the cpus and it worked. I am never opening that piece of shit again.
I'll post again if I need more help when I get around to ME2. Thanks guys.
