Saved after arrival at Citad and done for the night. Next time, I'll make my Rengade Male Vanguard and play through the same section.

Always top right Shep is a little bland though. And it's not like it always gets me paragon points either. So I'm looking forward to going through being a total jerk. Saw some bits where you could be kinda mean to Ashley. How mean can you be to her and still romance her? Renegade mance a thing?

Be aware that the Paragon/Renegade system works differently in ME1 than in ME2.  You need to assign talent points into Charm or Intimidate to open up blue and red dialogue options (which appear on the left rather than the right).  Some righthand options will give you paragon or renegade points that will open up additional charm or intimidate talent slots.  More of the red or blue dialogue options if selected whenever available will give your more paragon/renegade points, which will open up more slots eventually.  On a first and blind playthrough, it is highly unlikely that you'll open up all 12 slots in either charm or intimidate, but getting to 10 in one or the other will give you access to most of either the paragon or renegade dialogue options later in the game.  If you se a blue or red option being offered, it is a good idea to use it.  If doing a renegade playthrough, it is also a good idea to do it with a Earthborn Ruthless Shepard since those options give you 20 renegade points right at the start.  Putting 3 points into intimidate right away will also unlock additional renegade options during the Eden Prime mission, one of which will give you some extra gear.

It's not buggy, just very specific lines are required to shut down the romances before the argument.  Since you seemed to lock out Ashley by romancing Liara (which can't be done before the argument if you were ever on a romance path with both of them.  You can shut down Ashley's interest in you early by telling her "You're out of line" when she brings up Wrex and Garrus the first time.  You can, similarly shut down Liara early by telling her "I'm not interested in you in that way, Liara" (this is the actual line that is said, it's the middle option... I think the tag says "I want to be just friends." or something similar).  However, if you ask Liara about the Asari after that point, you can reopen the romance path.  If you've shut down Ashley already, then there is not argument and no opportunity then to choose Ashley over Liara.  You can still, however, anger Liara during the conversation near the lockers or send her away when she comes to your cabin.

I honestly don't know if there's a way to shut down the Kaidan romance path early since I haven't played FemShep very often and I've pretty much always gone forward with a Kaidan romance when I have played ME1 as FemShep.

Good to know, I was thinking of abandoning it altogether if it was going to be that bad.

It's okay, because I intend to blow her away either on Virmire or later in ME3 with my gun. That'd be funny, romance her in ME1 with RenShep, move on to Jack, then shoot AShley in 3.
