I was watching biofan's vid and he said that not everyone can change specialties as Ryder can. It got me thinking, maybe the Ryder twin's informal training from Alec Ryder gives them that ability. Maybe Ellen Ryder had something to do with it. S.A.M? [Important note] I noticed in the CES 2017 gameplay and Ryder's special abilities are due to his implant that can reconfigure powers.

Popular (and likely) theory is that it has to relate to the AI Sam.

Popular (and likely) theory is that it has to relate to the AI Sam. It seems the most plausible scenario. I wouldn't be surprise if it is behind we being able to communicate with the new races as well.

SAM + Pathfinder implant = reconfiguration of Ryder's implants and biotic amps to allow for class changes.

I suspect that the whole Ryder family has advanced implants that allow for this, whereas others have more limited interaction with SAM. These implants could also help to explain why Ryder becomes the Pathfinder and not Cora.

They seemed to indicate that it was the link to SAM. When I 1st heard about this change on the fly dynamic I hated the idea but it might not be that bad. Will have to wait and see.

I don't think it's 'explained'. RPG's without class and just a lot of different skill trees is the latest trend (FO4, TW3). You mix up your own class.

@op, I noticed the same thing and had the same thought.
I think this is a good thing. Much like in DA:I with specializations for companions. It would just be too much clusterfuck going on if you could choose the specialization for your companions. I think its much the same here if the suspicion that companions can't change their skill set is true. People already min/max these games to death; I think it reflects poorly on the studio if EVERYTHING regarding skills is just up in the air. Give us a little customization regarding skills and abilities and that can go a long way, but too much is just going to lead to too much clusterfuck going on IMO.

Sorry when I first read this I saw: Ryder's multiple personalities.
On that note: I just hope it works well and is not just rumor.

Damn that would kill replayability. I doubt that would stop anyone from replaying. You have a choice. Only you can stop yourself from replaying. Try something new every play through. Bio wants us to play as we so desire. I f your favorite class was sentinel then go biotic and tech the whole game, no one is gonna stop you. You can specialize and extra perks are probably gonna be made available.

sam is the biggest plot hole since the andromeda initiative Andromeda isn't a plot hole, it's a retcon at most, and I don't even consider it that. SAM isn't a plot hole since Council allows a select few companies to do AI research and for as far as we know, one of said companies employed Ellen Ryder and lead to the creation of SAM in the first place. Not to mention, off the books AI research still happens seeing as EDI is a result of nothing official.

This feature can't ruin the game if you don't use it.
