Placement matches usually put more stock on your individual performances. I didn’t win too much in my placements, but actually got a higher rank than my previous season because I did well.

Yeah, I think I'm out. I just can't play when Mercy is just a flying health station, Ana spends more time in spawn than playing, and Symmetra is a "niche specialist" not even good in her special niche. Playing support feels like I'm playing the game to help my teammates have fun, not for me to have fun. About Mercy post-patch I will just quote my dps-main friend:

"Wait, you ulted? Huh, I didn't even notice..."

I will wait a week or two before jumping to conclusions. I've played with Mercy for a few hours after the patch and she still feels pretty good to me. Maybe she's not a 'must pick' anymore but it's too soon to know that.

She's still better than my lovely Ana imo. It hurt to say that.

If Blizzard wants me to return to playing support they will have to rework Mercy completely. I refuse to play a character that is so incredibly boring. I think the only ult that feels similar in terms of the amount of "fun" it brings is Tac-Visor, but at least while using it you have an impact and can often get at least 2-3 kills (even a no-aim scrub like me has got both his achievements). Valkyrie at maximal potential only heals half of what Transcendence does at max potential, and it only damage boosts at half of Supercharger's potential. If they want the ult to be so un-engaging as it currently is they should shorten it even more but give it more power - it's not a coincidence that most of the ults with a longer duration (Supercharger, Molten Core, Infra Sight) is generally considered a lot weaker than other ults with shorter duration (Dragonblade, Tac-Visor, Death Blossom).

Currently we really only have three defensive ultimates to counter these ultimates - Transcendence, Sound Barrier and to a lesser extent Teleporter. In contrast we have between 10-15 ults that can wipe a full team. We need Mercy as a counterbalance to these, otherwise you are basically forced to run either a Zen or a Lucio if you don't want to risk getting wiped (let's face it, nobody is going to be running Symmetra). For me to even consider going back to playing her they need to either increase the healing/boosting during Valkyrie (won't solve the issue of her bering boring as fuck, but at least it will have something akin to an impact) or they shorten the duration, give her a new E that can actually be used during the midfight, and let her keep her two no-cast rez charges. I'm more in favor of the latter since then I won't just spend my ult hogging the skybox hoping the enemy Soldier and/or McCree doesn't have ult. Because, at the end of the day, that's what I want - to have fun.

But that's on people who didn't play Mercy obviously, and it will only be a matter of time before they decide which support is the new "must-pick". I didn't want Mercy to be OP, I just wanted her to be fun... she has no highs or lows anymore, she just... is. I thought an ultimate was supposed to make you feel special or empowered, if I thought flying was that exciting I would have mained Pharah instead.

When playing Support, it was common for people to be told to jump off Moira, Lucio or Zen and pick Mercy because she was so strong that you practically had to run her.
As a tank, she enabled a lot of compositions that made life suck for tanks like Spamrat/Hog/Orisa and Pirate Ship.

If anything, the one good thing about Mercy being strong was that it enabled characters like McCree, Bastion and Widow to be run without fear of dive comps shitting on them immediately.
