Y'all need more Audrey Hepburn. And Cyd Charisse. And Ann Miller. And Paul Newman and Gregory Peck and for God's sake, more Humphrey Bogart. You left out Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, or are musicals out of the category? Yeah, Fred Astaire. I've never been on a date with a man who could dance.

You get to go on a date with any character from classic cinema. Who do you pick? I'm thinking stick to grounded fiction, real world, no sci-fi/fantasy/horror and modern era setting, by which I mean post 1920s. I'll probably go with Simon Dermott from How to Steal a Million. Too many choices! First and foremost:
but also:
or
Nope, sorry, can't decide!

The nostalgia in here reaches retirement-home levels. I bet the next question is about Bingo or unfriendly nurses. Those people you are talking about are dead, irrelevant or ugly as sin by now, so lets move on.

No (unless you do it in an obviously rude or too persistent way). I think the point she was trying to make though is that many women live in constant anticipation of propositions, and the possible consequences of rejecting them. I was taking a walk when a teenager walked up to me and asked me to "give him a kiss". I told him off and kept walking, but the encounter made me constantly look behind my back to see that he wasn't following me as I was walking out into the forest. Many of us are conditioned to always be prepared and to always attempt to defuse any situation we find ourselves in so that we won't potentially anger someone. It can be exhausting to be on guard like that.

Can't wait for the day when there will be real equality and the % of asking for dates is 50/50. Then men can experience the unwanted questions and the woman can experience the great chance to be unceremoniously rejected.

If you ask more than once or twice, then yes. The whole 'have to win her over' mentality is just stupid, imo. If I somehow end up in a situation where I ask a girl out and she says 'no', I back off and don't try to ask again. Shameful how many guys don't seem do that.

Some guys act like they're the protagonist of their own romance novel and that the womyn in question is their designated love interest, either that or they take the gal saying "no" as a sort of personal slight. They need to recognize that asking someone out is just a mundane activity and to focus on women that reciprocate their attraction, not the ones that don't.

Also, if we say we have a boyfriend, we are probably telling the truth.
Because a lot of us do.
And even if one of us is lying...Challenging her will not accomplish anything. Either you're accusing someone truthful of lying (and insulting them on a couple of levels in the process, since apparently you think they're attractive enough to ask out but somehow not attractive enough to be already attached), or you're accusing someone who is possibly pathologically afraid of displeasing others and/or confrontation, and thereby delivering the stuff of their nightmares directly to them.
These are not the circumstances on which to build a relationship.

A question: How far ahead do women think ahead when starting a relationship?
You know, you meet someone and there is the right chemistry and potential for something long term. For the sake of argument just picture this: Introduction to the parents, moving together in a house with a picked fence, having separate careers, getting a pet, having children, having grandchildren, retiring and eventually dying.
Yes, generalized and over simplified, but my impression is that women picture all life situations with said partner before making a commitment.
On a personal note, I have been criticized for never initiating the "next step" so to speak. Me arguing that I'm quite happy where we are right now has not been satisfactory. Honestly, I just prefer to live in the present, and unless I feel an urge to move on to something else in my life, I'm not going to suggest it.

We don't even really have the culture of asking people out in Sweden, we just "hang out" until at some point both acknowledge themselves as a couple... which makes it difficult sometimes because one party thinks they were on a date while the other thinks they were just hanging out like friends. I've had to have at least one such awkward conversation at least.

I'd be very flattered if a woman were to ask me out, though I'd wonder if she were serious given my physical appearance that and I'd probably be too dense to realise that's what she was doing.
