I think thereβs probably a fair few, everybody is different after all. I used to not want kids at all but Iβm 29 now and seeing my sister have children has swiftly made me change my mind. Got a lot of maturing to do first though Giant Ambush Beetle , I hear you on the crazy world we live in... I mean, it was always this way, but I can't imagine the emotional strain of having kids and trying to bring them up in a way that would keep them safe and sound and sane... seeing how that's actually impossible. You just gotta try and hope for the best, and I think that's beyond my emotional capabilities. Just one of the reasons I never wanted to do it. On the other hand all things worthwhile demand some form of sacrifice and are in some way dangerous, oftentimes in multiple of ways. You can always say the world is too much of a crazy dangerous place to do or try XYZ, this argumentation can quickly escalate and lead you to do nothing exciting at all with you ending up with a boring unproductive and mundane non-existence. Just something to keep in mind. I'm gonna give kids a shot one day for sure, I think, at least for me as a man, creating fully functional offspring is a worthy endeavor and I think I have the capacities to pull it off nicely, given the proper circumstances. Just need to build a proper attractive nesting site find a way to earn more moneyz. My gender feels awesome. *edit* About guys having a wider ''window'' for kids, thats not really true. Yeah we are fertile much longer but who really wants to raise a family by the age of 55 - unless you're a filthy rich dude. My kids are 10 when I am 65? Ugh, I'd be like their grandpa by then. And am I supposed to support my family with my measly pension money? Or work myself into the grave? Thats not really an option, realistically, dudes are only a little longer fertile than the girls.

Understandable. In my case, I assume I'd have started feeling 'the call' by now, if it was meant to ever happen. For guys, I guess the window is open wider... Giant Ambush Beetle , I hear you on the crazy world we live in... Anyway, I know it's silly to ask anyone about what their whole gender feels, but that's kind of the theme of this thread, haha. Poor family of yours, letting your bloodline die out like that. Why? Nothing that special about us. Certainly nothing I could personally pass on. Maybe my cousins will do better.

I am in my late 20s, and leaning in the direction of wanting a family/kids of my own, but had been staunchly opposed to it for quite some time and it wasn't long ago that I felt that way. I don't have empirical or even anecdotal information to have a sense of how common it is to want/not want to start a family, and wouldn't want to hazard a guess on it because I could be wildly off-the-mark. But the responses thus far seem to point to "not many."

You can give the little ratlets a life they always wanted, running around the living room and chewing your upholstery or whatever it is the little shits do. You can do it.

Speaking of which here is a question for both the boys and girls, what would you do if you went on a date with someone and they took you home to their house where the entire living room was covered wall to wall with cages full of giant angry rats?
And bonus question, would you have sex in that room later that night with them all watching?

That's a crap hand to deal your kids. well yeah, I agree that guys realistically need to start their families before 50, or more like 45 at the most. Tangentially related anecdote: my mother was born when her father was 40, and he was born when his father was 40. My dadβs father was in his twenties when he was born. So I have a situation where there are, over the same span of time, two generations on one side of my family and three on the other. ...I donβt really have a point to make there

I'd probably be willing to have kids with someone I felt was right for the task, but I've never found that guy. I'd rather jerk off forever than be with someone I'm not attracted to. Biology at its finest. Maybe my line is meant to die out. Instinct can't be wrong.

Millions, if not billions of years of evolution and descendance in one long unbroken chain gone in an instant due to your decision not to breed, tisk tisk. That's how President Tyler has grandchildren still alive. What difference does it make? If it doesn't happen, it's obviously not meant to. I'd probably be willing to have kids with someone I felt was right for the task, but I've never found that guy. I'd rather jerk off forever than be with someone I'm not attracted to. Biology at its finest. Maybe my line is meant to die out. Instinct can't be wrong. Ratpack, you don't have to defend your decision not to have children, I'd be more inclined to question the insistence to have them at a time when the economy is faltering, the environment is at risk, world relations are at a breaking point and the attitude that war is inevitable is being broadcasted every day. We have industry leaders opting to automate their businesses and put a lot of people out of work, we have fanaticism, racism, bigotry in all different forms, we have a society that focuses only on the shallow petty shit and ignores the bigger more important issues and those trying to combat these issues are under constant attack and scrutiny. My oldest is 32 and in those 32 years struggled to raise my kids, watched the world slowly evolve into the petty, unstable, wreck it is now. My kids deserve a better place than what is being past down to them, all kids do. So before people go nagging on others to procreate, maybe they should first take a look at what future generations will be having to put up with. As for Lavo's argument, scientists are now able to put the DNA of 2 and even 3 different people into a fertile egg and implant it into a uterus and create a child, so as long as your DNA is preserved and some future person uses it to birth a child, your genetic footprint will go on. War, famine, tragic accidents and other events are creating so many new orphans, why be so insistent on making a kid to carry on your name, when there are already so many of them that need a family? Kids are kids and even if they aren't a biological extension of you, they can still benefit and learn from you. Raising kids is a big responsibility, it's a struggle to make sure your children have what they need, are kept fed, clothed, educated, protected and people shouldn't be pressured into having them. Especially since those doing the pressuring are very rarely in a position to help or are willing to help. One thing I learned is that there are a lot of people ready to criticize a parent but not too many willing to lend a hand. And if they do lend a hand, it's to make themselves look good, put themselves into a position to dictate to you or just to make themselves feel superior. Very rarely do you meet someone who helps out just because it's the right thing to do. If you choose not to have kids, that's your decision. You may change your mind one day or you may not, but you shouldn't be guilted into having them.
