I went for a work-required medical check up today, and the first thing the doctor said to me was "oh, your name is Ratpack... that's what my first love's name was... do you have family around Rat Town?". He had my wonky blood cell count in front of him. Not really a question I always wanted to ask, but one I want to ask today... Is that just a normal thing to say? Or was he flirting? I tend to avoid doctors like the plague and I'm probably somewhat socially awkward, so I was - and am - confused. It just felt weird and kind of threw me off the track, since I was worried about my health and not paying much attention to anything else. It might have been flirting or just awkward doctor jibber-jabber. If "Ratpack" is your last name or a fairly uncommon name, it's more likely to be the latter. But if it's like...Rachel, then yeah he may have been testing the water. It was my last name but it's hardly uncommon. And it just felt odd cause I was in the middle of a long line of people waiting to get checked up and approved for work, and those visits last only a few minutes, usually. Get in, get your blood pressure checked, get the doc's signature and you're off. Unless there's an issue, which I kind of had with my blood cell count, but he barely addressed that, just told me to maybe have it checked again. Overall, weird thing to talk about during doctor rush hour. But like I said, might have been just my own social awkwardness.

I'm sorry, but what do you mean by nice-ish? I kinda understand that you don't have the drive. But even if you have one, it doesn't feel good? It kind of feels good, but in the same way it feels good to stretch. It's sort of like how with a lot of people can feel like it's a 7-9 (out of 10), but with me it's closer to a 2-3 at most. huh. I don't understand at all. But then, I don't really need to understand do I? To my mind, an orgasm is one of the best feelings you can have. Of course, too much of a good thing is always bad. And I've had better/worse orgasms. But I can honestly say, none have been below a 6 out of 10 on the amazing scale. And that's just with me. I can't imagine how it would feel with another human being. Though it is fun to try!
I'm sorry, but what do you mean by nice-ish? I kinda understand that you don't have the drive. But even if you have one, it doesn't feel good? Sorry to butt in, and I'm not even asexual myself, but I feel like I have a good food metaphor to share... Sometimes an orgasm feels nice, the way a good meal feels nice... after you've spent two hours preparing it. It's a pleasant experience, but once you think back on all the effort you had to put in, you kind of don't want to do it too often anymore. Maybe once in a while, but usually you can think of twenty other pleasant activities you could engage in that don't take hours of work until you get to the payoff. Mind you, I'm an instant gratification kind of person, so in the case of sex half an hour is often too long for me. And it's also why I only look up quick recipes. Heh, I actually understand what you mean by the instant gratification part. That is something my partner and I would have to work on, but I'd be willing to put the work in if she would.
Thanks for trying to clarify. I'm still lost, but I appreciate the effort.

*snip* Isnt a big part of a relatationship the mutual understanding and acceptance of each others boundaries and desires? I think its perfectly fine to be incompatible with an asexual person. Its understandable. But most of your post feels to be kinda hostile. Everything you put in quotation marks is really... misguided? It kinda makes me think you dont know what asexuality is, or wouldnt care enough about a partner to hold their desires equally to your own. Sorry if Im wrong :/ Just because a person wouldnt be willing to do something against their will, that they feel no desire to do, doesnt mean they would take the relationship less seriously, manipulate you or love you any less than someone that felt sexual attraction. My view is that if you dont want to date an asexual person, dont date them/dump them. But understanding and acceptance are totally necessary to have a healthy relationship especially when it comes to boundaries and what people dont want to do. If I dated someone who had the opinion of "If you dont want what I want, you dont care about the relationship/take the relationship for granted or are trying to manipulate me"... It would set off a million red flags and make me think they cared more about themselves than the relationship. It might not be what you actually think, but your post didnt exactly sound nice. Maybe the quote list is not so much misguided as it is incomplete. There is another option, "I am saving myself for the person I am cheating on you with" Mutual acceptance... of what? Let me put it to you this way. I am a man. Women are typically emotional over physical- they want emotional comfort before anything else. Generally speaking. (Admittingly broad strokes here.) Men, physical is just as important as emotional. A sexless relationship doesn't really feel like a relationship at all to a man. Rather, it is an obstacle to the relationship you need. It drives you nuts. What you call 'mutual acceptance' sounds a lot to me giving up a lot what makes a relationship a relationship for me. What would an asexual person forfeit of equal gravity? Even if they did forfeit something of equal gravity, would that even be desirable? That would be more commiseration than enjoyment. To be perfectly frank, I don't particularly care what asexual truly means, or what it's like. I have a decent idea what I want and a decent idea of what I don't, and that is good enough for me. The question did not refer to knowingly dating an asexual person, but rather, dating a person and finding out they were asexual after the fact. As I'm sure you are well aware, my dear, not all facts like these are readily apparent. As per the whole 'against their will', again, I am a man. By staying with someone, I am doing something 'against my will' (or at least against my base instinct) every single day. You gotta offset that somehow lady. Every relationship has selfish motivations-every single one. The idea of an altruistic relationship is largely mythological. If you are in a relationship now, you would not be in it unless there was something in it for you, that does not involve your partner's needs or feelings. So if sex is off the table by default... what's in for me? What's to stop me from chasing the next half decent woman, or even the next bicycle? What will the answer be the next time I think "Is this worth it?" If the potential for thinking that is a red flag, well, it turns out everyone's got a red flag. I do not view this as harsh or hostile as much as it is honest with myself. And that is a fundamental. No getting around it. So this post was rewritten after I lost what I originally wrote. But I decided to change basically everything about it. Mostly because I couldnt actually remember what I had already written, and I spent like 30 minutes staring at a blank page trying (and failing) to remember. So its better this way, really. Expect me to go on tangents and contradict myself. This is a disclaimer that applies always. I think Ill still go with misguided tbh Asexuality is a sexual orientation just like being lesbian, straight, gay, bi, pan, etc are. Its essentially the lack of a desire to have sex with someone. It isn't a choice, its a part of who they are just like with everyone else. An asexual person can have sex to experiment or if they enjoy the intimacy even though they don't feel the need to have sex with someone, but there are asexual people that don't like the idea at all. My point is... this is part of who they are. It can't be changed, and doesn't mean they are hoping to force their sexuality on you or take a relationship less seriously. They can still be hopelessly in love with you (unless they are also aromantic) but that doesn't change their sexual orientation. Please, compare what Im saying to what you wrote in your post before. I think you were acting without much information and being unnecessarily hostile towards people. It felt you were trying to equate asexuality with negative things like not caring and manipulation that arent really true *nods* *honesty* You mentioned that you think a partner who won't have sex isn't taking a relationship seriously. My point was that, in a relationship, both partners need to be aware of what the other person wants, and that saying "If a woman that I am in a relationship with makes me live in sexual depravity, regardless of her orientation, she doesn't love me or value the relationship very much" is a sign that you dont value your partners wants/lack of wants as highly as your own, or are outright ignoring them. I know the topic originally was about starting a relationship but you did say in a relationship. There are other reasons why someone wouldnt want sex in both long term and short term situations other than asexuality also. Though... I am a little confused. When I first read what you wrote I thought depravity meant something different, because Im pretty sure Ive used the word to describe myself before and I didnt mean to make myself sound celibate. I googled it and it means corruption and wickedness. So sexual depravity would be more fun than disappointing I think But eh. Anyway. I found it funny. Why would your partner need to forfeit something equally important when you could just try and compromise? Open relationships have already been mentioned but some asexuals do experiment with sex, but others dont like the idea at all. And it's possible for an asexual person to feel sexual arousal and like to touch themselves so there would be ways to compromise in the relationship without anyone making big sacrifices even if the relationship itself didnt include actual sex. But I think its kinda strange that your first thought was "I sacrifice something so they should sacrifice something too" rather than coming to some kind of compromise or understanding or even thinking "if I was in a relationship with them, I would care about them and I wouldnt want them to make sacrifices unless they absolutely had to" I can answer your last point because I am in a relationship, Im engaged *nods* Ofc there is something in the relationship for me, I get my enjoyment from it and it makes me happy, but I do selfless things in the relationship for my fiancee. If I want something, and she doesnt want it... I prioritize her. Because I love her, and part of love is choosing another persons happiness, safety and wellbeing over and even at the expense of your own. Well, I think so anyway Though, she tells me I should probably be more selfish. Im not sure why. It kinda undermines my point, but still. My overall point is this, I think: if youre incompatible with an asexual person, dont date them. If you find yourself in a relationship with an asexual person, remember that their feelings are important too. In both situations... dont think less of them. Dont think they care less because they dont feel sexual attraction, and dont think that they are trying to inherently manipulating you/forcing their sexuality on you because they might not want sex in the relationship. Different people are different and I guess thats all. Yeah Generals honesty and openness is refreshing. I say no to closet pervs! Thank youuuuu. More compliments! I have no idea what Ive done to deserve them. Thank you. Xbox or playstation? Let the console wars begin. I own a PlayStation 3, a PlayStation 4 and a PC. My PC isnt for gaming and is quite old, so cant run new games... Though through some black magic it can run Dragon Age Inquisition surprizingly well. But for newer games I play PS4. Xbox controllers confuse me. Im a human, my thumbs are at the same height... Im socially awkward and anxious. It would probably creep me out.

Being awkward is like this? Watched the video. She is not awkward or socially inept, she just has absolutely no self esteem whatsoever. Which is actually pretty normal for many young women nowadays. In fact, she is actually very average.

In fact, she is actually very average. Hmm, idk... I'm starting to think there's a difference between social anxiety and social awkwardness, and this girl is probably more anxious than awkward. Meaning that she's very worried about her self image and how she's perceived by other people. Meanwhile, I consider myself to be somewhat socially awkward because honestly, I don't pay that much attention to other people, and when I do I tend to get confused about what they're trying to convey. I don't have a problem ordering a strange dish, I'll just say 'I want this thing, however that's pronounced'. My main problem is not getting what people are trying to say, brushing them off with an 'oh.. right', and moving on to a different subject. Usually something tangentially related that I experienced. Talking to people is easy, it just gets boring fast. Actually, I think this may be narcissism... I'm kind of surprised so many people around me still want to talk to me... Oh and hey, Lavochkin, you reminded me of another question - does one girl, two guys, appeal to a lot of men? Cause I'd be up for that...

I really like your posting style. You’ve got a really good grasp of the English language and I’d definitely listen to anything you have to say for more than 20 seconds. You don’t have to be coy, you’re not like the other girls on here, there’s something about you that makes you special. The name ratpack, it’s such a pretty name. Melts off the tongue if you don’t mind me saying. It suits you. So, you free tonight? Absolutely! Just please send me your credit card number and PIN cause I'm having trouble with my visa, the people at the embassy say I need this data from my contact? So silly! xxx see u tonight! Oh no I’m not falling for this trick. Not again!

Oh and hey, Lavochkin , you reminded me of another question - does one girl, two guys, appeal to a lot of men? Cause I'd be up for that... Eh, can't say I've ever seriously considered or thought about it before, but as they say "don't knock it until you try it", so pick the place and me and Beet will come on over. Yeah, while its not a particular fetish of mine I don't I have no problem with that practice either. Gimme a call. ( But just to fix your little calculation, I'm more like 1 1/2 men, so its 2.5 guys and a gal. )

All jokes aside, I do admire your dedication to physical fitness, you're pretty hardcore about that. Good for you!
