I hope the squadmates are more important to the story

I hope they play a bigger role in the story, rather than just being "the people that follow Ryder". The original trilogy had this pretty bad, especially since a lot of the squadmates could die. Garrus was especially bad even though he was extremely popular he wasn't even that important to the storyline. He was an optional squadmate in 1, you could put off recruiting him until you have every other wave one squadmate in 2, and he won't even be in 3 if he died during the suicide mission. This meant he basically had zero importance to the overall plot. I hope they take this fresh slate to make the squadmates more important in their own right.
