Okay yesterday I landed on the Collector Ship. ( I have not done anything yet. ) Besides my Snetinel, I took Miranda and Thane with me, and Thane has the Viper to use which seemed fitting to me because I got it on his recruitment mission. But this afternoon I thought ... lets check the Wiki to see if it is indeed as dangerous as it is made to be. ( And it appears it is. ) But I read on it's page: masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/M-97_ViperThis part ... Squad members do not take advantage of the Viper's high rate of fire and will prefer to fire a few shots at about the same rate of fire as the M-6 Carnifex before going back to cover. If that is indeed the case then that kind of sucks, I mean squad members already do less damage then Shepard? And now a Assassin like Thane may or may not be able to make full use of the high rate of fire from the Viper? I know they are not affected by accuracy penalties and ammo amount, but still?

Thane is still an good choice for this mission. I often take him and Miranda. Having him want to stick to cover on this mission isn't necessarily a bad thing, since the biggest problem I can have during it is running out of medi-gel reviving fallen squad mates. The first battle can be a real bitch since there is very little good cover available for the three of you and the collectors are not shy about trying to flank you. Also, the Assassin's can just rip through your shield/barrier like butter and drain you right out of health in a blink.
It's not really Thane's weapon damage that you'll be relying on... it's his warp, along with Miranda's for stripping barriers, and his throw (which can detonate warp) and/or throw any mooks without barriers right off the platforms for you. Jack can also be a good choice if you've done her loyalty mission and she has warp ammo available. Her shockwave can throw a lot of collectors off the platforms, as well as detonate warp, overload and cryo blast. If you're not playing on insanity, she is also really great for handling the husks near the end of the mission (If you're on insanity, they are all armored, so that diminishes the effectiveness of Jack's shockwave in this portion. I can't remember if they are also all armored on Hardcore.)
What is your bonus power
Also, you will be able to select a "bonus weapon training" before the first fight. If you pick the Sniper Rifle Training, you will be able to use your own Viper if you want to bolster Thane's long-range weapon damage.

Yeah the fact that both Miranda and Thane have Warp, just like my sentinel is one of the reasons I picked them. On Horizon I noticed that Warp is indeed really useful against Collectors, so I thought it would be useful now as well. Hat not thought about Jack though ... hmmm I might regroup first later tonight. As for bonus power ... well once I got the Advanced Training ability I picked Warp Ammo. ( Which was right after I finished up on Tuchanka. ) That should improve the effectiveness of the M9-Tempest against armour I believe. As for the Weapon training I can get on that ship ... well I was at first thinking of taking AR ... BUT I think that there is not a huge difference between AR and SMG. And the SMG has grown on me through out the game so far, so I will take you up on your tip and pick SR instead.

I think the page is right. At least in my experience it always worked better to give squad mates harder hitting guns rather than fast firing ones. I always give Thane the Incisor and he seems to drill head shots quite easily.

Thank you, and since I doubt I will find a weapon locker on that ship I will restart the mission and then assign the Incisor to Thane.

There's a weapon locker right next to where you get the AR/SR training.

So he will get the Incisor as well. Upggrade Thank you very much for that info.

Don't mention it. Seriously, don't tell anyone. If word gets out that I'm nice I'd be ruined.
