As fans of Mass Effect, who doesn't love the Omni tool. We know it works as a blade and a scanner (Batman Arkham style), but what other functions would you like it to have? These can be from the previous games or never before seen.
-Music player -Door opening mini game with the omni tool. Looks like it did in ME3 but requires a little more effort on your part. -Hologram chest or ME Version of Gwent
This may be a short thread, but I figured people had other ideas/criticisms.
Edit:
@pa_trick88 With the minifacturing fabricator you can add quite a lot to your omni-tool.

Actually I'd be happier if they just removed the holo-stab function. It's handy, but looks stupid, considering that nowhere else in the lore do we have holograms acting like solid objects on demand. If that were an established aspect of the lore, it wouldn't be a problem at all. Or am I missing something?

It is an established aspect of lore and you are missing something concerning the way it's supposed to work. Like with the Tech Armor, the hologram is just a safety precaution to alert the user and those around him. "Largely unused prior to the Reaper invasion" is the only point you can argue. Their justification for the omni-blade in MEA is probably that the tech is already there and it looks cool.

I realise it could potentially be super clunky depending on implementation, but I wish more of the UI/menus were based on the in-game omni-tool, like with the Pip-Boy in Fallout/the holo-displays in Dead Space. So, when you open up your inventory or whatever, the camera zooms in on Ryder's omni-tool, which then displays everything that'd generally be in the out-of-game UI.

Like with the Tech Armor, the hologram is just a safety precaution to alert the user and those around him. While I could see there being a need for a holographic safety warning, I do kind of wish they would actually have the omni tool fabricate unique material that actually looks physical and instead highlighted with hologram art. As it stands it looks like the hologram is supposed to have physical substance, and I'm not really a fan of that Hell, the concept of the omni tool rocking a miniature near instant 3d printer is awesome, they should use it to make more shit imo. Maybe make you gather different resource combinations to make extra cool but limited tech.

Give me some sensors for movement, heat signatures, live-signs etc. (to display in a mini-map but also in the tool for a larger radius, so I can plan my approach before rushing in guns blazing!) Let me monitor character health Give me night-vision, infrared and radar/sonar (also to be projected in the helmets hut) Let me call "home" (the nexus, the ship etc.) via the omni-tool (with the ship as a relay if you are calling the nexus!) Give me a decoy-hologram (or one that attacks - Fallout: New Vegas (Dead Money!) style!) greetings LAX

If there's going to be some kind of MEA version of the War Table, I'd like to access it in the field with the omnitool instead of running back to the Tempest.
A music player would be nice as well.

PermTrouble Cirvante lance "Ryder" Wilson : I thought that the lore was the omnitool did fabricate a blade and suspended it using mass effect fields, i thought i remember reading it was even monomolecular, and that the omnitool could be "overclocked" by engineers/sentinels/etc to do different things, some prefering to suspend fuel in the mass effect field to burn things on contact, others used electricity to damage shields overcharge style. here from the same wiki article quated earlier (http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Omni-tools): The most common melee design is the "omni-blade," a disposable silicon-carbide weapon flash-forged by the tool's mini-fabricator. The transparent, nearly diamond-hard blade is created and suspended in a mass effect field safely away from the user's skin. Warning lights illuminate the field so the searing-hot blade only burns what it is intended to: the opponent. More technically adept soldiers frequently modify their omni-tools to maximize stopping power through electrical, kinetic, or thermal energy. Some troops integrate their weapon with their kinetic barriers, transforming the omni-tool into a wrist-mounted bludgeon; others fabricate flammable gases, held in place by a mass effect field and ignited upon impact. All prove deadly surprises for opponents who expect a disarmed Alliance warrior. to the OP: if the omnitool can do this, it should also be capable of launching the blades or otherwise spikes, or molotov fuel packs, or maybe disruptor-tech blasts similar to geth colossus siege pulses but less powerful. id also like to see a holo-armor buckler shield. i think i remember seeing all of these things in the trailers. i dont care for the scanning thing it looks really tedious, but worse it really annoys me when they give you tech that only works for certain missions and doesnt work otherwise it kind of takes me out of the game... like the footprint scanning thing, if i was unable to see my own footprints or scan enemy footprints later in the game that would annoy me.

So, when you open up your inventory or whatever, the camera zooms in on Ryder's omni-tool, which then displays everything that'd generally be in the out-of-game UI. I have been wanting this as well. Was thinking about it after picking up mass effect 3 for the first time since 2013. Have it to where the menu doesn't break the immersion. Now that they've gotten rid of the power wheel, they could make it to where you have to go into cover, pull up the hologram from your omni tool, and change powers to the three that you need before jumping back out into the action. Speaking of Dead Space, I tweeted Ian Frazier asking if there are any zero gravity sequences like the ones in Dead Space. Haven't heard anything back. We're always fixed to the ground in Mass Effect. Would be cool if we actually have some outer space game play where we float in space and have to use the jet pack to steer us. Considering EA is the parent company, it shouldn't be too difficult to share resources.

It'd be nice if it could record video of events, so that when you encounter something like, oh say a sapient Spaceship or an ancient VI, a video recording could be used to convince the rest of the galaxy.

I never understood Shepard for that, Most of the specops nowdays had been recorded by cameras on the helmets , why didn't Shepard have one during or after Eden prime (come on shep, a GoPro can't be that expensive in the future)?

When ME1 was released, it might have made sense that Shepard didn't have a video recorder with him at all times. Would be a lot harder to convince people of that now in 2017, since most gamers now carry a video recorder with us at all times.

In game music. Final Fantasy 15 incorporated a "portable MP3 player" to play music that you would normally play while driving the car throughout the world. You can play it while walking around the open world, and it would automatically transition to the fight music or cut scene. It contained pretty much all of the soundtrack from every final fantasy game up to 15 and the kingsglaive movie. Movie is awesome...check it out. In game music from past games is probably the most reasonable. I'm sure you can do this on PC, but the ps4 will automatically play any of your Spotify playlists as background music now. If they don't put it in the game, that's my go to. But it would be cool to actually see the animation of using the omni tool with a screen pop up to select your track. Mini games have been confirmed but hot sure if this includes door opening. If it does, I just want the ME3 door opening animation with the omni tool. This is the GWent idea: bsn.boards.net/thread/3864/mass-effect-hologram-version-gwentObviously couldn't play during combat.

Also to note that spotify thing is easier with any PC's media player: VLC, Real, Winamp, MPC Black Edition, ect. WPM11+ does not get a say All of these can be used to play your own music files while a game is running. Mini-games are confirmed? Ok. That is it. Good-bye. ...Ok not going yet... if as you say they not that intrusive... or at least we do not want them to be. That game you link no offense but looks like a form of mah-jong -a game I personally never really got into. I'm familiar with how it was written off, my point is that the art of the weapon itself makes it look as if its actual hologram instead of a fabricated material And Tech Armor looks like a hologram around you. There's a lore explanation for both and they look awesome, I don't really see the problem. If you don't like the omni-blade, Andromeda will allow you to use a sword or a hammer instead. Omni-tool functions I'd like to see in singleplayer are the omni-gauntlet Omni-claws And an omni-shield that allows you to slowly walk around with and use with a sidearm
