Interview with both Tom Taylorson and Fryda Wolff www.640toronto.com/2017/02/14/sarah-and-scott-ryder-give-insight-into-mass-effect-andromeda/Topics of discussion include but are not limited to: What it means for THEM to play in the Mass Effect world What it’s like to work for and with Bioware How to create 4 or 5 versions of Ryder for different character choices How their personal relationship plays into the banter Who “will they bang, okay?” Both Tom and Fryda didn’t give up much in terms of story details but both confirmed the scenes they have together are some of the most emotional in the game. Interestingly, both actors are good friends but had to keep the ‘job of a lifetime’ a secret from one another, it was through simple prodding that they both announced, “I got the job as the lead character in Mass Effect!” Moreover, if you’re envious of all the juicy info both actors must have about the story arch of the game, fear not. For both Tom and Fryda watching the recent character trailers is the first time they’ve seen many of their (beloved) squad mates fully realized!

I just started listening, and at the very beginning, I'm surprised by Tom. He sounds more like Scott than Fryda sounds like Sara in his normal voice.
Been very interesting so far. The part about being able to start up and end romantic interactions at will is cool. I hope that's an actual feature and not just fluff. Tom is my favorite of the two. He even mentioned how he sounded like Nolan North to a lot of people, lol.
Most of this is just the kind of "what it's like to play this character" sentimental stuff, that isn't super important to the game itself.

I feel like Fryda is very professional and look at her voice acting as a job. Tom on the other hand feels like he is loving what he is doing and enjoyed it. Playing Scott Ryder will be a treat for me.

He's got a good voice, tbh. I feel like Troy Baker is more guilty of that. Nolan North, despite having a very recognizable voice, seems to at least mix things up every once in awhile. Like with David in The Last of Us, or Deadpool. If Tom's interview is anything to go by, I'd say Scott's voice is just his natural voice, but with a bit of "oomph" added in.

Troy Baker and Nolan North both do it a lot, because that's what's asked of them. It's not like they'll go into a studio and say "hey, I'm gonna do the same voice I did in my last six games just two weeks ago!" when they get to the studio; the vocal direction they get is what leads to that so they can say that their game has the "Nathan Drake voice" in it because it's what people like to hear. Same thing when people hear Jennifer Hale most of the time, then they turn around and find out she voiced every damn female or child character in the game and they couldn't tell without the credits.

I suppose that's fair, for the most part, though I can't really say I've heard Baker do anything different aside from adding a slight twang to his Joel and Ocelot performances.

But they all sound like the same character, so...? You can hear Baker's voice because you're familiar with it, but coming in fresh, I don't know how you can say they're all the same. And once again, it comes back to the director getting them to go with the familiar tones and ranges. The good VAs all have range, evident from everyone talking shit about Mark Meer and his supposed lack of talent when he voiced the Hanar, Vorcha, and a bunch of NPCs and no one noticed.

Hell yeah. Tom and Fryda are extremely talented and dedicated to their careers. Was already looking forward to the game due to the graphics and features, but a lot of the hype for me came after listening to a few of their interviews. First came across the interviews looking to see if Nolan North was the voice actor, and I think I'll like Tom better for this particular role. Fryda just makes me want to finally create a female character.

Thanks for sharing this interview . I love the banter between Fryda and Tom and hope it carries through to the game.

Playing Scott Ryder will be a treat for me. Yeah, it looks like Tom is having the time of his life being Scott. And so far, he's doing a better job, much more exciting.
