ME2 has hideous options. That formal dress thing that looks like I'm going out to a fancy dinner, science coat that looks like... well... science coat (who walks in a science coat while commanding a ship, especially since science or lab work was never established as Shep's background), and a hobo homeless outfit. It's ugly as hell, all three of these. So I'm stuck with the regular uniform.
Thankfully, ME3 is much better in this regard so I like to mix it up. The only one that sticks out with its ugly grossness is femShep's leather skirt and heels monstrosity.

The only one that sticks out with its ugly grossness is femShep's leather skirt and heels monstrosity. My staunch refusal to support a Cerberus logo is what caused me to select the "ugly as hell" hobo outfit. Over several playthroughs, it has grown on me... at least for BroShep since it looks like it might be something he would use to continue packing a weapon while on the ship (i.e. not totally ever trusting the Cerberus-selected crew or the band of their chosen bad-asses he's been tasked with recruiting himself). For FemShep, I just head cannon that it's a common way that civilians dress in the ME Universe since we see the same outfit on many of the NPCs (e.g. the farmers in ME1, the woman trying to get to her apartment in ME2, and Kelly in ME3). Yeah, it seems to be definitely "lower class" but I just tend to ignore that. I'm with you on the little black dress and heals... I really don't think a Commander would ever wear such an outfit on deck; and she/he is definitely not a scientist. Even though the lab coat doesn't have the Cerberus logo, it does have a "XO" one; and I can't get Exogeni out of my head with that one... and Shep doesn't ally with them either. I would have really liked it for my "I'm actually still loyal to the Alliance" Sheps if they had included the old Alliance casuals from ME1 in the selection... but, alas, I play on Xbox so I can't use the mod.

I really like the variety afforded by ME3, I must say. For everyday duty I choose either the basic outfit or the cool black one with shoulder marks (epaulettes). I enjoy both of them, so I don't have a clear preference. If I imagine my Shep doing more hands-on work on the Normandy between missions, he'll wear the lighter outfit as it looks like it doesn't restrict movement as much. If he wants to project authority and stand out from his crew, he'll probably wear the other one. For highly formal occasions, dress blues of course (meeting the council, etc.) When off-duty I prefer N7 hoodie. Leather jacket and civvy clothes when taking time off on the Citadel.

I prefer the long-sleeve outfits as a rule, so the majority of my Shepards probably wear the dark long-sleeve outfit in ME2, and a few wear the short-sleeve one. The sleeveless outfit I only use once in a while when in between missions and Shepard is just going around talking to people. I've never really cared for the white long-sleeve one with gloves, mostly because it feels weird for Shepard to be wearing gloves indoors.
In ME3, I feel like the gold-tipped navy blue long-sleeve outfit is a little too formal and the hoodie and leather jacket are a little too informal aside from occasional off-duty conversations, so I tend to use the longer short-sleeve outfit on the Normandy, then mix it up with the hoodie, leather jacket, and sleeveless for when Shepard is doing stuff on the Citadel.

For ME 2 I like the captain's uniform and the basic fatigues for Male Shepard and I like the scientist outfit and the fatigues for Female Shepard. I also like the dress for her but I don't have her wear it much since it feels out of place. For ME 3 I like the fatigues for both and battledress uniform for femshep. I wear the dress blues for both on certain occasions but I stay in fatigues most of the time. Just like in ME 2 I don't have femshep in the dress that much though I will have her equip in the silversun strip when she is just hangin out. For dude shep I will have him in the leather jacket for silversun strip when he is just hangin out.

I go default.
I would probably go more with the BDU in ME3, but I think the textures make it look bad. Guess I need some mods.
Speaking of which, strange that C-Sec has Alliance crewman garb in ME3 instead of their C-Sec blue.

Thanks all, you confirmed a hidden problem I had with most of the casual outfits for ME2 - they mostly have Cerberus logos and yeah - I don't work for them.
It would have been nice to have an SR2 logo like Joker gets on his hat. For appearance, I like the jacket uniform in ME2 but I'd like it better without the Cerberus logo on it. Don't really care for the standard crew uniform, even if that's what Legion remembers Shep wearing whether she did or not. After the SM my most recent Shepard changed into the brown jumpsuit as evidence of cutting ties with TIM. I don't like that one for bro Shep - makes him look too much like a space pirate (Jack probably really likes it though ).
I don't really like any of the default casuals available in ME3 for femShep. I mostly use option #4 except for formal occasions that call for dress blues. I like the leather jacket for broShep so I usually put him in that. I don't think he looks as good in the formal uniform as femShep does.
