I asked @tibermoon this earlier today but didn't hear back. Is this info known? I always loved the Codex in the trilogy and listened to wonderful voice over as well. Would like it to return.

There will be a codex, but one of the devs confirmed it wouldn't be voiced.

As blanks said, it won't be voiced; they're including the vast majority of the codex entries from the trilogy. Those, plus the new ones from Andromeda would be four games worth of encyclopedia entries. That's disc space that could be used toward a few more voiced sidequests.

Why isn't it voiced? Dang That was my reaction. The voice they used in ME2 & 3 is iconically Mass Effect to me. I think keeping it would have gone a long way to ensuring that it felt like a Mass Effect game.

Why isn't it voiced? Dang Because it's four games worth of entries. Audio takes up a lot of space. All of that data could be used to give characters more lines of dialog or they could squeeze in another planet or two for us to explore. Plus, they know that the vast majority of people tended to read ahead versus listen all the way through. it not being voiced sounds like a step back to me, but I am just thankful it is no longer glued to the Journal like in ME3 If it results in more squad banter and cutscenes, it's not step back. They've already said that the spoken dialog lines amount to more lines than Dragon Age Inquisition, and that game had the most spoken dialog out of their games to date. Andromeda tops that, and along with four games worth of codex entries being voices, that's a lot of audio data. Voiced codex isn't as necessary as questline dialog, questlines in general, or planets, so it likely being axed to make space for something more meaningful makes sense.

The narrator read so damn slowly, at a completely appropriate pace for reading aloud, that I just muted him and read the entries to myself. I only let him read to me if I had to pause the game and walk away. I'd set him to work and knock out whatever task needed doing.
He is very iconic of the OT. The tweet mentioned the sheer volume of codex entries for MEA as an issue. Many of the OT's entries had to be brought over, naturally, in order to explain the universe and its base conceits to the newbs. Then, we have a lot of new entries for the longest ME game to date. They said a voice-over was just impractical.

Makes sense I suppose. Maybe they could make a new Datapad app for mobile devices with all the Andromeda codex and voice it there? Not going to happen I know, but I was elected to lead, not to read

I understand the reasoning, but it still makes me a little sad. Always liked listening to the primary codices; that voice was iconic and pleasant to listen to. Also, I read slowly, so I didn't get too far ahead. Oh well.

this makes me sad, I actually liked the voice that was used for the codec and I would sit and listen to the entire things on every single codex and not even read the codex myself

Dude had a nice voice, but I never listened to him anyway. I legit managed to tune him out through the first three games because I read so much faster on my own.
After I listened to all the main ones, anyway, I never touched them again, so while I was reading the non-voiced ones I completely forgot there was a narrator at all, to the point that I surprised myself in ME3 when I heard him talk again.

Although a voiced codex is fancy, it is not the most efficient use of disk space. Dialogue way better suits that purpose.
Also, yes, the narrator had a nice voice, but even in ME1 not everything was voiced. ANd whatever was voiced, he read so slowly i just read ahead and cut him off when I was done.
Now... if they get Morgan Freeman or James Earl Jones to read them, that's a whole other story.
Also: I really hope they have a fast-codex button. I mean, when a new codex entry pops up, you press that button to read it. Because I hate to manually go to the codex screen and search for the new entry myself.

Short answer:
Yes, no.
They better not waste time and money on voicing the codex.

I tweeted Tom Taylorson and Fryda Wolff to see if they could push for a free dlc update with a voiced codex as if one of them is narrating it. No response. Tom said the voiced Codex was one his favorite things about Mass Effect in an interview. Maybe the two of them could make a separate video on youtube reading the codex in their Ryder voice.

It's dumb that we still use discs when space is limiting games. Just make everything going forward digital downloads so we can leave that antiquated technology behind. Now Morgan Freeman or James Earl Jones would be amazing. Two other good options would be Neil deGrasse Tyson and Ving Rhames. Hmm there's a trend here

On one hand I agree the codex voice was awesome and I enjoyed listening to the narration.
On the other hand I'm glad it won't be voices this time for the sake of efficiency and saving effort/money.

The voice used in the trilogy was great but I couldn't stand to listen to it when I'd rather read, so I'd feel bad for muting him.
