I don't understand the obsession with Sara Ryder. In MET and all Dragon Age games, all the trailers and covers showed maleShep, malequisitor, maleHawke, etc. And that was perfectly fine. You can play as female if you want but canonically we all know it's male. Female companions became just as bad. Dragon Age Origins and II were fine. Leliana and Merrill good girls, Morrigan and Isabella bad girls, nice and easy. In Mass Effect 1, both Liara and Tali were nice girls. Here comes ME2 with MIRANDA and JACK, both horrible women. Miranda is mean and Jack has a potty-mouth. Jack is also bald and barely wearing anything. Like, wth? And you have characters like Vivienne and Samara who refuse to romance me in any way. Like I just don't get it. Based on their personalities, I'm not sure I'm gonna like Vetra or Cora.

Oh this is funny... - Mass Effect (DA) is not a 'banging simulator' so if Vivienne or Samara have other considerations that preclude their interest in you, that's their choice.
- I'm unclear about where you are seeing this 'obsession', Sara's 'trailer time' has been equal to Scott's (though Ryder is canonically female).
- Miranda and Jack were both interesting characters, more interesting characters, please.
- Cora and Vetra have barely said a dozen words in the trailers, it's far too early to judge surely?

I don't really care about the promotions, since I'll play multiple Scotts and Saras anyway. Miranda mean and yet you liked Morrigan? Miri was a well mannered schoolgirl compared to that b/witch. Jack was fine, she is the usual hard shell-soft interior type (again, like Morrigan ). Samara was this warrior monk on a path of eternal righteous quests, this one should be obvious. Vivienne had a beepy status-centric attitude, oh and also a true love. Vetra and Cora, why? What's wrong with them? What do you know about their personalities so far? Being a turian and a not having a typical girly-girl hair isn’t a personality, it's just their looks. You can write them off if you want but wouldn't it be better to get to know them first?

Kaidan, your icon is amazingly distracting for some reason. Every time I look at it, and then I get confused, and then I figure out what's going on, and then I'm like "Why?" and then I'm like "Teehee."
And then I forget whatever the hell my joke was going to be.
Anyway, it's obvious Sarah's canon this time around, because Liam is a major-league hottie. Unless he turns out to be as straight as a U turn, in which case Scott is canon. T'chuh!

this is to funny why because OP says doesn't like Miranda because she's too mean and yet likes Morrigan who is mean. I for one liked Miranda in ME2 and romanced her and continued romance with Miranda in ME3. Also there is nothing wrong with a strong female character be it a main character or not

I don't understand the obsession with Sara Ryder. In MET and all Dragon Age games, all the trailers and covers showed maleShep, malequisitor, maleHawke, etc. And that was perfectly fine. No, there was a femShep-Trailer - just saying. And I'm pretty sure that the Inquisitor on one of the DAI:Covers is female which was stated by Bioware (and she was shown as female in trailerparts as well) You can play as female if you want but canonically we all know it's male.
Was there an official statement that Ryder would be canonically male? If so please show me. I play games for 2 decades now and I saw lots of games & weird approaches to females in them. As a young girl there were very few female rolemodels I could embrace in this kind of media and most of the time they were rather cliché and more superficial than anything else. So I'm always happy to have a game that represent us females a bit more, given that from all the 10ths of thousands of games like 70 only have a female protagonist who is most of the time either bland, boring or half naked. The game industry just recently embraced the idea that females can be more than just killing hotballs. That they can have decent personalities and brains. And I think BW like a few other developers helped to lead onto that path. And I have to say even there was no marketing as females for some games - if I have the chance to play as a female in the game I'll go headcanon female with it wholehartedly. Like, wth? I get it, they don't seem physicially appealing to you personally, same goes for the personalities they had it seems. That doesn't mean that everybody else has to have the same opinion though. I can understand you. I didn't like Miranda that much as a person she was at the beginning of the game but I grew on her to the end of ME2 and ME3. I liked Jack's personality and her design. And you have characters like Vivienne and Samara who refuse to romance me in any way. Like I just don't get it.
Like stated from others in this thread both had very understandable reasons to reject a relationship (Samara had her codex, lots of life experience and a few daughters so enough brains to think about possible romaces wouldn't be that far fetched. She got a short and kind of weird romance part in the Citadel DLC though and Vivienne lost her lover right in front of you in DA:I - wouldn't be that gentle to jump right into the next affair, or not?) Based on their personalities, I'm not sure I'm gonna like Vetra or Cora. I can understand that you feel a bit insecure if you can like them - we practically don't know anything about their personalities. Most of the things that are discussed in other threads are assumptions based on the few bits of trailers and background infos we got - which is not that much either and could be laid out very differently depending on our own experiences, interests and opinions everyone made in his life. Just be open - maybe both of them will surprise you and you'll come to like one or both of them in the game. Hah, sorry for possible grammar butchering. Tried my best to explain myself. Maybe I fell for bait, don't know. And I have the feeling I saw such a thread in a similar way here on the boards not so long ago as Bioware stated that they want similar screentime for both Ryders and Sara had a bit more screentime thanks to the first gameplay trailer they released after all the tech examples.

They are not real people and their models don't have vaginas and/or peenors, so they are not even male/female. So far only Conan Exiles is a game featuring real women and men. You shouldn't get upset over a game about imaginary sexless characters with face paralysis disarming aliens with 2quick4you strats.

Just on 'canon'... Neither gender is explicitly canon, but Shepard was a 'nod' to astronaut Alan Shepard (1923-1998), and Ryder is a 'nod' to astronaut Sally Ride (1951-2012). So whilst there is no canon per se, the implied 'lead' character for the Trilogy is maleShep and for MEA is Sara Ryder. (as far as I'm concerned)

It's just, he was recruited into an N7 Reconnaissance Operation. So no one ever hears about him. Saving the world, from the shadows! On-Topic: Nothing wrong with strong women in games. I actually found Cassandra in DAI to be attractive. She had lovely eyes and dem cheekbones. Even though she had short hair, I thought she looked nice. People vary in preferences. Everybody is different. Same goes for looks. While Cora's hair is pretty short on the sides and back, it's still not a horrible haircut. The long bangs look very feminine! But I've even seen guys with hair like that!! To me it looks out of place on a dude. But hey! Everyone is different. I'm not judging. Whether or not you get along with them, should be based on their personality, not looks.

Yes, I don't like Bioware pandering to minorities. I mean, I can play as a male Shepard/Ryder, but just knowing that someone somewhere out there is playing as a female Shepard/Ryder, it makes my blood boil. It's so unrealistic. That's sarcasm, in case you didn't pick that up.
