I was hoping to make a few tweaks to default Scott, but now I'll be making a custom. I played default ManShep because I thought all custom characters looked kinda bland. Made a custom FemShep though.

Character creation is my favorite part in any game. If i see a game with a character creator, that already catches my eye. For me personally, using defaults is boring and lazy, but some people don't care about that so it's all about preferences.

I like customizing characters. i never used defaults but male shepard cc was very hard to me. i couldn't create one that i like much. I would customize my Ryder as long I can make them look good but Scott looks good already & I may use it. The one thing I had problems with shepard was the name. I don't think it was necessary to customize a name because in the game for sake of the story, it seems inappropriate that close friends will still refer to him as "Shepard". I would like that they be referred to as their first name which is more realistic.

My problem with defaults and heavy marketing them is actually that they are Scott and Sara Ryder. Two Bioware's characters, not mine. My Ryders are Mandy and Norman Ryder, twins that are nothing like Scott and Sara.

For me the best RPG'S have cc so I always create my character, defaults are for people who want to jump in straight into the game or they're not good at creating characters (or maybe you like them a lot). For me character creation is one of the MOST important things actually, still pressed we haven't seen it but we will soon.

I guess now that I think about it, it's one thing to think about what character you'll play for a game you've played already, but for a brand new game it's incredibly difficult. I feel I would feel more comfortable playing with a character that could represent me. So maybe for Andromeda I will play a customized Scott Ryder, but maybe not change the name, apparently since the game is written a special way where if you keep the default name, you'll sometimes be referred to by that name.

my characters always end up looking like troglodytes, but as soon as somebody does all the work for me and makes a decent custom character with some melanin, i'll steal it asap.

is the glorious feeling which comes over me every time I light eyes on a new character creator. I have always made my own lovely faces, I've always enjoyed providing the codes to those who have trouble making faces themselves, and I always will. I have some artistic talent, so it's really, really fun for me. I will keep the default names this time, though--for the first time ever. At least for the first two playthroughs (one Sara, one Scott) to see how it feels. To me, the default faces always belong to Bioware. I put my own stamp on it so that I know who my character is. If she's got a bit of a saucy smirk and twinkle in her eyes, she's flirtatious. If she seems somber and grave, or sweet and caring, then that's my dominant tone and primary thought in making choices for her. I couldn't have that certainty with the defaults.

I don't care what the defaults look like. For me to get into a game, I need to create my own character, and name him or her. Scott and Sara are BioWare's test characters. Mine will be different. I don't need the whole world to accept mine as a canon, I just need to be happy with it myself. I do not want to politicize the discussion, but I prefer non Caucasian leads as well.

I have never ever used defaults if there has been a way to avoid it, even by modding. I will definitely create my own Sara. Scott, on the other hand, is actually not that bad and if I decide to play as him at some point, I might for the first time use the default or just only tweak him a bit if possible.

I have used default male Hawke and default male Shepard because both of those looked better than anything I ever managed to create on my own. I use custom for all my female characters and male Inquisitors. I tend to like the male defaults (or at least tolerate them) and really dislike the female ones. This game is interesting in that I *do* like sysRyder but don't like broRyder default. So my tentative plan is custom male, default female for first runs on both. I will at least play with the character customization though just to see what options are available. I will probably keep Scott's name though and change Sara's because I don't like the name Sara but Scott is okay.
