We were explicitly told that there would be a way to pause the action to "survey the battlefield". Have we seen that in any of the gameplay footage?

I believe the Giant Bomb's preview mentioned that you can pause to switch favorites and profiles but nothing beyond that.

The weapon wheel pause that's been in every gameplay video since December will be the way you tactically pause.

There will be a tactical pause.
My understanding is that unfortunately for you, there will not be a way of actually aiming while paused. Nor can you command squadmates to use a specific ability, but only to attack a target or move to a location.

In other words, there's a menu pause but not a tactical pause.

There is no "tactical pause" as you know it from the previous games. That feature was taken out of the game intentionally. BioWare wants players to focus more on the action, themselves, instead of constantly pausing and directing squadmates. You can call that "streamlining" if you'd like.

Have we seen that?

Have we seen that? I definitely have not seen anything like that. The only "pausing" that seems to happen is when switching between favorites profiles or going into the menu, obviously. I don't believe there is any form of "tactical view" in this game whatsoever. As I said, it was intentionally taken out as BioWare wants to keep the pacing and excitement of combat going, rather than players pausing every few minutes.

They thought it was too redundant to have both tactical pause and casual mode in the same game so they got rid of it.

Have we seen that? Where did they said that? Because i don't remember hearing it. I thought Frazier said it, sometime last year. But I can't find it now. Detailed searches only turn up me claiming it to be true.

On the plus side, the combat is much closer to ME3's multiplayer. That tells me nothing. I never played the MP (nor will I play Andromeda's MP). I do not play with others.

There. That's probably why I thought we could look around while paused. Ian said we could pause to "take a breath" and "see what's going on".
If we can't move the camera while paused, I don't really see how that's an accurate description.

I'm calling it now that in the next game, Tactical pause will make a "triumphant" return. Kind of how DA2 didn't have tactical view (on console only maybe?) but it returned in Inquisition. DA2 didn't have it at all. DAO didn't on console either (because it caused the game to render too large an area) and they said they removed it entirely from DA2 to create parity across all platforms (and probably also to shorten the QA time, given how rushed DA2 was).
