Well, I'll dive in - I'd appreciate folks' assessment of my rig (assembled May '14 - December '15), in relation to Andromeda and in general: - Samsung S34E790C Monitor
- i5-4670K CPU (not OC'd)
- Nvidia GTX 980 TI
- G.Skill Ripjaws X memory (8GB)
- Gigabyte GA-Z87X-D3H
- Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD (x2)
Thank you!
Disgusting. Burn it and start over

Oh, of course, of course. I just meant I don't even know what the standard market cost is for a component, so I don't know what would be a scam, you know? Standard market price depends on the component. To paint with the broadest brush I can find, entry-level components will cost around $60-150, mid range stuff will cost between $175-300, high end will run $315-500, and enthusiast stuff will be north of $500. I would be wary of spending less than $35 for any new-in-box component (that's not on sale/rebate, anyway), unless it's miscellaneous like a fan, CD drive, or something along those lines. This link is an excellent resource for sorting through all the various components out there, but they're kinda slow to update for new releases (example: AMD's new Ryzen CPU lineup is set to launch this coming Thursday, March 2, and they don't have anything related to them in their database yet): www.pcpartpicker.comThis post is a pretty solid primer on costs imo Also, you notice they're only pimping 1700-1800 ryzen chips? I'd love to see bundles for 1600 and below

So my other option is to build a pc. I know how to install components inside a case, but I would have no idea what to buy and what would be a valid cost. I habe zero parts right now. Any help anyone can offer? Actually AMD is going to be releasing new cpus in like...2 weeks? Maybe next week? The suggested retail prices are VERY reasonable, but need to see what amazon actually lists them at Their top line CPU comes in around only $500 and its a 8 Core 16 thread CPU. This is the 7 series 1800X RyZen CPU. wccftech.com/amd-ryzen-7-1800x-i7-6900k-gaming-performance/

Thoughts on MSI laptops? I've been strictly an Asus girl, but they're having a couple sales at Memory Express and I'm not sure if the price drop is worth it.

Just try youtubing similar specs on current games like battlefield 1. Laptops usually try to use lower end video cards because they don't really expect you to be gaming on them

After careful consideration though, a desktop pc just doesn't suit my lifestle right now, so I'm really limited in my options.

It's not uncommon for places to market something as "gaming" just because of the aesthetics

I can't buy something like this and not see it in person. Hopefully I won't have to spend near as much as I'm thinking, lol.

I still use an 8 year old MSI gaming laptop every day in addition to my desktop, it's not exactly portable (17 inch and quite heavy) but very sturdy. imo it's a reliable brand

The tricky part is finding the same exact laptop in a brick and mortar. You have more options buying online. Some online shops let you customize parts for your laptop.

I recently got an MSI laptop (GT62VR) after having 2 Asus laptops (which I really liked) and I've been really happy with it. I definitely don't regret switching from Asus to MSI.
