Waiting for an RX 470 to arrive. I expect my current R7 260X would be over-matched. (I have a Haswell Core i5). I upgraded from a R7 260x last year too, loved that little card. But that'll be a huge performance boost for you

You can do that yourself in-game; all frostbite games have it these days. I dicked around with it in Inquisition last night for my previous post. You're a wise man Cypher Only on tuesdays.

I assume they're rounding down with the whole 'high settings at 30fps' thing. I heard they did the same thing for Need for Speed and that ran better than expected.

Sounds about right to me actually. On my GTX 1070 DAI puts out 40-60fps when fully maxed. It's petty ridiculous what's going on with PC gaming these days. I'm about to buy a PS4 for Horizon, a game that looks way better than Tomb Raider on my 1500€ PC...Tomb Raider dipping into the 30s when ALMOST maxes out. Yup. Great stuff... After I caved in and watched the Peebee mission video I'm so disgusted with the childish tone of the game that I'll borrow the console copy from a coworker eventually. If it wasn't for modding I'd regret switching to PC four years ago. Not sure if you can judge the entire tone of the story from that tidbit...bit hasty perhaps? They can't be serious with that 30fps/recommended thing. Well, I'll find out in just a week... It's either incompetence in 1 of 2 areas: 1) It's a fuckup typo, and should of said 60fps (BF1 goes over 60fps on the same hardware, easy). 2) It's a fuckup port, unoptimised bullshit and they've bungled it somehow to aim at 30fps unless you have SLI 1080s, fuck me sideways sans lube.

Option 3: They put this together pre-final optimisations and it's both premature and excessively cautious.

Aw yeah, broadcasting to you live from my new computer. Installed latest drivers, tested Total War: Warhammer on it and it runs well baby. Gonna download a bunch of other games (Witcher 3, Battlefleet Gothic, DOOM) to test further.
It's a bit noisier than I would have liked, however. But not sure I can do much about it at this point.

Apparently, players with the recommended specs can only go as high as 30 fps at 1080p on high settings? People with the minimum requirements can run 30 FPS too, if they play at 720p with low settings... So this is BioWare telling me that because I have a GTX 970, with 12 GB RAM, I'm screwed? If that's the case, I might not reach 30 FPS. I would have to lower the resolution, causing the game to look blurry, wasting the game's potential to be at 1080p. Either I lower the settings extremely low on my PC, or I'll suffer with frame rates in the 20's. Either way, I lose, and the game will look like crap on my 1080p screen. I don't want to spend even more money on a new GPU, after spending nearly over $2,000 for my PC! This is ridiculous! These are my Specs: OS: Windows 10 CPU: i7-4790K 4-Core 4.0GHz GPU: GeForce GTX 970 EVGA Superclocked ACX 2.0 4GB Edition RAM:12 GB DDR3 1600MHz I bet this has to do with pushing/selling 4k. A lot of the promotional material has been in 4k. I'm personally tired of the 4k hype. Is 1080p not good enough?

No, which is why I'm borrowing the PS4 copy from a coworker to see for myself rather than skip it altogether. Maybe it won't be as abysmally written as it comes across to me right now. If I like it, I'll buy the PC version later. But not going to reward EA/Bioware for a shit game, if it really is shit (to me). We'll see.

Option 3: They put this together pre-final optimisations and it's both premature and excessively cautious. That's my take. They said that it's pretty much the same specs as BF 1. IIRC, In that game, max settings @ 1080, I got FPS rates in the 50's, occasionally jumping into 60+ with a rig that's almost dead-on the recommended settings: FX-8350 (mildly OC'd) 16 gigs of DDR3 64 bit Win10 Plenty of HD space on a SSD 980 TI 6GB (also mildly OC'd) I'm not worried.

I could run Witcher 3 on 1440p on mostly ultra with Hairworks on at 30-45 fps. I was VERY pleased with that. I only upgraded because I wanted more memory for modding. If a GTX 970 is not enough for 1080p, something is seriously wrong with the game. Let's wait and see...

All other games are on my PS4 (mostly exclusives like Uncharted). It's not like my PC is full of games. Andromeda was the reason why I bought the GTX 970. My PC was built a little more than a year ago. Figures....The worst thing I that can happening is the frame rate dropping to the 20's. 30-60 is my targeted range, as long as there are no large drops in between. Another bad thing would be the game crashing constantly.

Waiting for an RX 470 to arrive. I expect my current R7 260X would be over-matched. (I have a Haswell Core i5). I upgraded from a R7 260x last year too, loved that little card. But that'll be a huge performance boost for you The RX 470 arrived yesterday, spent the evening benchmarking and adjusting settings. In DAI I can get a steady 60fps @1080p with mostly high settings and MSAA at 2x. If I have issues running Andromeda, I'm ready to blame the port, because the new card is plenty powerful. Yeah, my R7 260X wasn't a performance "beast," but considering the amount of thrashing I gave it, it's one heckuva GPU. I'm putting it into a dedicated Linux machine - the fact that it's based on years-old Radeon architecture helps with the driver support.

Glad to hear you're liking the performance. Haven't had a chance to test it out or play with the settings because I've been busy overclocking my trusty i5-3570k (now running very comfortably at 4.2ghz). The Rx 470 replaced my R9 270, which had served me well for over 3 years. It handled DAI at ok frames on high-ish settings too so I briefly considered giving it a crack at MEA... but then I decided I want this game to look as good as I can justify price-wise!

I will have about a week to see how MEA runs on my i7-860 @ 3.7GHz (stock 2.8 GHz) with 4GB RAM, assuming I get it near release, before a trip to a city with a Microcenter. TW3 runs well enough on my PC, but I'm at a point where every perceived problem could be used as justification for a CPU(+cooler)/RAM/mobo upgrade.

Yeah, it's been a great run with that generation CPU, and you will see some decent improvements from a modern CPU, and some DDR 4 3000mhz RAM. Digital Foundry did some tests on how much decent RAM matters, and the results were surprising to me. More info here; link

I don't care about 4K yet either, so I'm just on 1440p at the moment. Still, my daughters machine is right next to mine, and she runs 1080p on a Geforce 1070, while I have 1440p on a 980Ti - the difference is there, and it'll be even more profound once 4K60FPS on a single card is available - the 1080Ti gets close, so I'll not likely move to 4K untill 1180Ti or similar which should put minimum FPS above 60.

My CPU (FX-6300) does not meet the minimum specs for MEA, but I'm hoping the game will be playable on lower settings anyway (recent games like TW3 and Doom run just fine on a mix of medium to high settings). I was thinking about buying Battlefield 1 and playing it a for a couple hours to see what kind of performance I get and then returning it. Do we think that BF1 performance would be a reasonably similar benchmark for MEA performance?

You'd probably be better off saving some money and getting Origin Access and playing the early access to test it out before buying.
