Wait, wait, wait...So essentially, all the other Milky Way aliens were sitting around twiddling their thumbs for 34 years while they wait for humanity show up enmasse and take charge?

No establishing of colonies, no building up of the Nexus, nothing? From what I can gather then, based off the awards trailer, the rest of the Initiative (and the myriad of other species involved in it) has managed to fracture under a rebellion; lead by one of their own security chiefs no less; lose track of their other arks, and generally stagnate all the while waiting for our special snowflake Pathfinder to sweep in and save the day.

And I thought the game couldn't be even more human-centric than it already is.

Well, some previews mention that all 4 arcs got lost and Hyperion is just the first one found. And there a re some colonies like the one Sloane has on Kadara.

But in general nothing solid gets accomplished until us humans show up though right? 

I get that a human focus is the nature of the narrative but seriously, I at least expected the other council species to have some show of competence, some Initiative of their own.  

If things are this bad after 34 years then how did the Turians, Salarians, and Asari survive the thousands of years prior to human contact in the Milky Way without swallowing their own tongues I wonder? 

I may be wrong but the impression i got from Dev talks and the previews was that the game would be more about saving the human colonist inside the Hyperion (finding a viable place for a colony?) rather than saving the whole Andromeda Initiative.

Her bio says she was born on Palaven. 

True! I totally forgot!
Maybe she went with her family when she was barely a child.
That would make her more Andromedian than Milky Wayer. She would have little memories of Palaven.
Also, that would explain the importance of her family and family bonding. Maybe they are still alive... or they died in Andromeda

I always thought the 634 years was just a more precise description of how long it took everyone to get there. 600 always seemed like a rounded number to me, something easier to say pre-release.

With our squadmates and other characters not being a lot older than us, I doubt we are 34 years late. Maybe a few at most.

I doubt it. Aaryn (i think it was him) already said once on a interview that the Hyperion arrives late. So i believe it will take a lot more than a year.

He could've meant the Hyperion arrives sometime after the Nexus.
