Looking at some new, close-up images of a kett soldier, I've noticed some similarities between the kett and the angara. So look closely and you can see that under the bony exoskeleton, the kett has very similar facial features to Jaal. They have the same shape face/head, same nose, the same wrinkle around the mouth and even the same eyes (sort of, the kett have a round pupil instead of a cat-eye). The kett's head-plate even has a similar shape to the top of Jaal's head, albeit slightly deformed and obviously made of bone. From what I can tell, the kett even have the head tentacles the angara have, especially visible in the second image; the black fleshy looking bit above the right shoulder looks like it's attached to the head and is the same shape as the angaran tentacles. So, is it possible that the kett are actually some sort of sub-species of the angara or perhaps even just a group of angaran radicals mutated by Remnant technology led by the Archon? Or is this just my imagination running wild? EDIT: something else just popped to mind; one of the early trailers we see several shrouded figures in a Remnant-looking environment walk into some lights - we now recognise these shapes as angarans, so perhaps what we were seeing there was the conversion process from angaran to kett? Sort of makes sense if the kett are actually a group of radical religious angarans that mutate themselves with Remnant technology (hence the enemy names like "Chosen" and "Anointed").

I don't really see the similarities, but even if they're there, that would be too similar to the relation between Protheans and the Collectors, which would raise many an eyebrow among people familiar with the OT.
I mean, at least two eyebrows because I'd raise both of mine.

Could be... maybe the Angarans are just the original Kett before the Remnant found them, and enslaved them into their service or something. Either that or it's just lazy BW design... I mean, they have significant similarities to Protheans and Collectors too.

I mean, at least two eyebrows because I'd raise both of mine. Except all the protheans are dead and the Collectors are mindless drones. Beyond mutation, there's not much similarity to the whole prothean/collector thing.

Maybe not in the sense that you might initially think. They likely didn't evolve at the same time on the same planet otherwise they would share a lot more traits physically. Notice that the Angara appear 'soft' and the Kett are much 'harder'. The Kett likely evolved on a much harsher planet whereas the Angara evolved on a planet more akin to the Asari or the Salarians.
That being said, its possible that the Kett evolved from Angarans who left their home planet and settled on a much harsher planet a good time before the game starts. That being said, that leaves a lot of questions that would be difficult to answer so Im just going to assume that they're two different species entirely.
Remember that the Asari looks like blue human females but are very clearly a different species.

They are the same species the same way humans and asari are the same species, as said above. They bear similarities, that's all (and game creators usually reuse assets whenever they can: it spares a lot of work).

Or maybe bioware is just reusing assets again... Beat me to it, that's what I was thinking. It could just be that particular Kett and his facial shape (I hope the Kett are not all carbon copies of one another). Then again I wouldn't put it past Bio to recycle their own stories too. Something similar was done in swtor between two species unknowingly related and in conflict with one another.

I can see this as a possibility, but I don't want it to be true. It would feel like it has too many echoes of the Prothean/Collector reveal for my taste.

Or maybe bioware is just reusing assets again... Like how Admiral Hackett was just a reskinned Zaeed. Some ancient technology perverts part of a civilization into a hostile faction; that's all the similarity you need for the analogy to work. The specifics of the model (Protheans are dead, etc.) aren't relevant.

The Angara and Kett being similar might be a plot point for all we know (seeded species by the Remnants, same species that evolved on two different planets, bio-engineered species, etc). It's a bit earlier to go accuse BioWare of laziness.

It's fairly obvious although I don't think it has anything to do with any Remnant technology. You're telling me you really can't see it? You can't figure it out?
The Kett are Angara who were pooped on by a very large and sacred bird. Hence, they have been anointed. That is clearly hardened bird shit covering them. I'm not judging.

What it seems to me so far is that in Andromeda, all the species seem to skip leg day.

Not reeeaaalllyyy on topic but I find it interesting that the Angara are described as a spiritual species, the Khett enemies have very er... devotional sounding names and someone on our ship is Muslim . Religion is usually something games shy away from. I'm probably getting ahead of myself though, the shipmate at least might just be Bioware being inclusive and raising a middle finger at certain individuals due to recent events. Those spoilers should be avoided by the hypersensitive and those saving themselves for marriage release.

Didn't certain previewers mention there was a bit of a religious theme going on? Taking into consideration the Kett names they could be Angarans worshipping Remnant or something like that.
Another possibility is, that they share ancestry (like humans and apes have the same ancestor)

I mean, if we think Christianity is till around in a couple of hundred years, then Islam will probably be too... I personally hope we have grown out of either by that point, though. *shrugs* On the Kett/Angara being religious/spiritual: It's expected, I guess... especially considering they have quite some evidence for the existence of their creators...

I really hope it's like Ashley's Christianity, that's 'discoverable' deep in some dialog tree, and not an in-your-face matter. This could get pretty silly. On the other hand, religion in general isn't a totally new theme; the Asari had their goddess, Thane kept praying to some deity, the Hanar were preaching all over the place, etc.

We've been talking about this exact possibility in the Jaal thread. Actually a lot of stuff we've come up with has already come true before we found out. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a connection.
