I mean, you can sit here and say "it's a single star cluster isn't a good enough excuse!" all you want, the fact remains: we're exploring a single star cluster.
How many sentient species are here in our local cluster? Right now having both the Kett and the Angara is a 100% increase than we have here, soooooooooooooooooooooooo I'm not sure that adding seventeen more makes a ton of sense.
As we explore more clusters, in DLCs or in future games, I'm sure we'll run across more species. But yeah. One star cluster. Uno. Ein. Un. один.
You can either accept that reasoning or not, but to whine about it when the answer has been clearly given is just counterproductive.

I just want them to bring back the Batarians. Have some part of the Hegemony find out about the AI through their intel network and they decide to start up their own ark because they can't stand to see humans do anything without trying to match. BRAY SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SQUADMATE. ;_; I just want them to bring back the Batarians. Have some part of the Hegemony find out about the AI through their intel network and they decide to start up their own ark because they can't stand to see humans do anything without trying to match. BRAY SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SQUADMATE. ;_; I really would've enjoyed a surly batarian squaddie. This game really would be so much better with Batarian pirates, mercs and slavers to populate their criminal underworlds/shadier outposts & worlds. The only problem I guess is justifying their inclusion in the Initiative to begin with. The explanation I would go with would be that either the A.I. accepted political dissidents and refugees as part of a cultural scholarship sort of thing or there were lots of wealthy Batarian black market folks who invested in the A.I. because they saw the potential (in the new galaxy) of getting away from the Hegemony & out from under the yolk of the citadel governments. It's still possible that Batarian and Quarians passengers travelled on the missing Turian arc which could show up in the next game, but that's entirely up to BioWare.

Any batarians would make more sense aboard the Nexus, Hyperion or Asari Ark, I'd say, since they're not dextros like the turians. I'd have liked to see any who were accepted into the AI not automatically fall into the old tropes. I'd have enjoyed a batarian engineer, doctor, pilot or something less criminal. Really, anything more than a small number batarians just doesn't make sense, given the timeframe. A few, though, of almost any organic species can be relatively easily explained. (This doesn't mean I expect to see them, of course.)

Guess it depends on what you mean by star clusters -since there are three different types.
