I'm more confident than ever that the developers are placing a lot of priority on visual appeal and variation, based on the screenshots and videos I've seen recently. I'm still not loving most of the armor I've seen so far...but at I think least the jet packs looks cool. This was the hands on impression video that made the most impact on me. They mention that there was a sense of immersion and diversity to the planets they visited, which sounds reassuring. They also mentioned a lot of bugs, which really doesn't. I've personally had some of the same reactions to the human faces that one of the reviewers did. I think they almost slip into uncanny valley territory. My only actual complaint is that I don't think some of the characters (such as Liam and default FemRyder) look very much like their extremely striking face models. The most hopeful fantasy I'm still clinging to is a view screen looking out on a colorful nebula. What about you? What is your favorite thing about what we've seen of the aesthetics so far, and what unknown elements are you most hoping for?

I actually really like the armour design. It actually looks practical, especially some of the helmets that have the transparent plate that goes from the chin to the top of the head. In previous Mass Effect games the armour looked incredibly restricting, like it was designed to prevent you from raising you arms above your head. The new armour looks much more flexible and realistic in the sense that you and I would know.
They also put more effort into having more flexible materials like cloth, rubber and foam-like padding that actually make it look comfortable.
As for my favourite thing about the aesthetics...it has to be the planet variety we've seen so far. Gorgeous skyboxes, awesome lighting effects and a huge variety of environments. Really cant wait to see what they have in store outside of what we've seen.

Really cant wait to see what they have in store outside of what we've seen. I'm liking the armor designs as well! I think they look less restricting and when you have things like biotics and tech shields... you really don't need the heavy plate type armor. Now, I would like there to be some heavier armor in the game in case you plan on playing a soldier type that doesn't have access to those types of abilities and relies more on soaking up damage. It's always good to have choice. The only thing I don't like about the newer armors is that helmet type that you mentioned. Never been a fan of the huge visors dating back to when I first saw them in Halo 2. This allowed you to see your enemies clear across the map due to shine coming off the visors. I feel like it just gives away your position to the enemy and thus I can't get behind those. lol

One aesthetic detail I did like about the armor in Andromeda is that it seems to wear the effects of the environment. The leaked tech demo footage showed water droplets on the armor of characters in a wet environment, and Ryder is covered in dust when on that desert planet from the trailers.
The uncharted worlds also look beautiful.

I've liked the armor I have seen so far. Companion faces were fine, save for Liam's, but whatever. I liked the screenshot of two planets, and the bright colours in the multiplayer.
I really hope for jungle-world with unusual, colourful vegetation, flowers, etc, and mysterious feel like Belsavis. Seeing more wildlife would be awesome.
I am also hoping for more outdoor locations than in the original, and less indoor.
What would surprise me pleasantly, is if we see something like the Gree related stuff in SWTOR. I don't expect it, but the Terror from Beyond and the mini Gree operations were my favourites, so, I'd love to see something like that in MEA. But if it's all organic and pastoral, more of the SW style of strangely underdeveloped worlds, I am good too.

I still don't fully understand what she meant by saying the game felt slightly "like a bro game."

I still don't fully understand what she meant by saying the game felt slightly "like a bro game." I think that might be a reference to the stereotypes often associated with first person multiplayer military flavor shooters. People who love Call of Duty, Halo, Modern warfare. They're reputed to be a little more aggressive and fixated on the raw competition element of the game than games with more of a...creative aspect, you might say. Urban dictionary is confusing on the subject though.

I think it probably just means you don't neatly fit a gaming stereotype. Which isn't too surprising, since oversimplification tends to be hazard of stereotypes.

I still don't fully understand what she meant by saying the game felt slightly "like a bro game." She's using an out-of-date reference to Bro-Shooters aka Halo/CoD and their kin. It's out of date because genres have been fusing for a while now, with most shooters incorporating RPG elements, and RPGs taking on action game and 'Bro-Shooter' mannerisms on the fly. It's from a bygone era when you were either a Bro-Casual, 'RPG Gamer' or some other pigeon holled type of stereotypical gamer...now, we are just gamers and it's fine to like games from all sorts of genres. The days of only 'nerds' playing RPGs/MMOs are long gone, and games like Call of Duty, Battlefield and Titanfall can be as deep as a lot of RPGs. Myself, I'm currently playing the following: Nioh (ARPG) / Titanfall 2 (FPS Shooter) / Paragon (MOBA) / Valkyria Chronicles (RTS/RPG hybrid) and Overwatch (FPS MP Only Shooter). I consider myself a patron of all types of gaming, that previewer is obviously living in a bit of an 'us vs them' type of 2000s style nerd buzz.

I have yet to see more of the game to really tell what pleases me, aesthetically. So far I have seen like 3 different armors and they were ok-ish, the alien planets look visually appealing but they don't really blow me from my chair, the characters faces and animations do not look ground-breaking either...
So far I have not seen anything worth mentioning in the aesthetics department.

A lot of what we see reminds me of Halo 4, I'll post more examples later but I think it's something they definitely looked, too closely, at.

I've liked the designs I've seen so far. Armor, guns, helmets, all have struck a nice balance between being an explorer with some defense in mind, versus being a straight up military character.
And the landscapes...can not wait to see those on my monitor.

I personally find this to be the aesthetically weakest game in the series because I find there to be a bunch of clashing styles between UI and 3D visual design and I think frostbite lets the lighting down at times, like when you meet PeeBee... she looks like she's made of plastic. Speaking of PeeBee I find it odd they'd choose to give her a coat that has the same color as her face. It gives off a strange look. The shoulders on Drack look undefined and the same can be said about the rocky textures on the Kett. And for the custom-generated faces that some NPCs had I finally get what IGN was saying in that it looks like Sims 3. It's just not very consistent. I know BioWare's had some guidelines for how to design Mass Effect aesthetics but without saying it's awful or broken or anything they've sorta let themselves down with this game and I think it primarily comes from the shift to Andromeda's lead developers, such as the lead artist Joel Macmillan and other UI designers. It doesn't look too flattering and the 3D world graphics is your average Frostbite visuals. Sand looks like the same sand from Inquisition or even battlefield. Trees are sometimes imported from Battlefield and other environmental assets from Inquisition has carried over directly.

I think everything looks stunning (natural environments, vaults, flora, fauna, tech and biotic effects, aliens) except the humans. The hair is, once again, atrocious, the facial animations outside of cinematic cutscenes are so bad I actually winced and everyone has sameface and that face is blah. Sorry whoever you are that's responsible but it is what it is and I'm disappointed from what I've seen.
By the way, I almost never say anything negative about BW games because there is so much to love despite the flaws but the tour of the Tempest video was a sad sight to see. I really hope it looks better in game.

It's so frustrating that the aliens almost all look just fine, good even, while the humans look like mannequins with dead fish eyes that occasionally suffer from muscle spasms.

As far as aesthetics go the quality of facial animations is definitely the area Bioware most needs to improve for the next DA and ME games. ME:A feels like a couple steps backward from DA:I and ME3. I liked the character design for the big bad, though:
