The CC is a pain. I think the terms I've been hearing, like "wrestle it into submission," are pretty accurate.
I'll say this, the difficultly some people emphasized about making a white character aren't quite as exaggerated as I thought. There are two presets that you can make a white character with, and with one of them, Alec still comes out looking much darker than you.
I love the Asian preset, Head 1. It's going to be great when I make my Violet Ryder, but it didn't work for Eve Ryder because she was supposed to be a pale blonde, and changing the skin tone doesn't seem to change the undertone. I actually went into game having started with that preset and pale blonde hair, but she was still ostensibly Asian.
She was pretty, but she wasn't Eve. And there I was with her dad also looking Asian but her twin brother still set to look super white. It wasn't going to work. I went back out, recreated her. I don't like her features as much as before, but now she looks more like Eve at least.
It is completely ridiculous that you can't change up the eye shape and size after selecting a preset.
