From what we've seen, it doesn't look like film grain is even in the game. Even if it was, we've been able to disable it in every game so far so why wouldn't we be able to this time?

I believe the devs have said on twitter that film grain will be in the game but like DextroDNA wrote, I think it will be optional.

The first Mass Effect had film grain, but we could disable it. I expect that this effect could be disabled in ME:A too. (Film grain? Yes, I agree with derrame: it's horrible. Why are people at BioWare so fond of it? I'll never get it.)

It's rumored that when they make the Mass Effect film, it's going to have 'game grain'. So it's only fair, I guess.

What's film grain in a video game? You must go play Mass Effect immediately! Your question will be answered. It was a visual effect applied to give the original game a "SciFi Film" look and feel. It was pretty cool for the first few hours. Beyond that, though, I turned it off forever. I prefer a clear, crisp image. I don't even recall if it was an option in ME2/3. aarynflynn confirmed that film grain will be a part of MEA. Since we don't see it applied to any of the video released thus far, it's safe to say that we can still toggle it on/off.

What's film grain in a video game? In digital media, it's an overlay of "noise" that simulates "film grain." Here's an article from PC Gamer about six different "effects" that the authors feels should be eliminated from video games (and I largely agree): www.pcgamer.com/six-terrible-graphical-effects-that-need-to-stop/With my vision issues, I would love to be able to increase the brightness and contrast without jacking up the lens flares... those geth lamps can be brutal.

You could disable it in Mass Effect 1, so no reason to think now will be different.
Truth be told i also dislike it and will turn it off together with blur effect.

Even if there's no in-game option, such things can be toggled by manually editing some .ini file inside the game folder, so I wouldn't worry about it. My personal pet peeve is 'chromatic aberration'; it gives me a headache; also, if a borked-up CRT doesn't have some sort of thematic significance in your game world (like it does in Alien Isolation's 'retro futuristic' setup) it looks out of place, and stupid (like in Arkham Knight - though that's the least of that game's problems, haha).

Aaryn Flynn aarynflynn Yes Clearly, Aaryn is answering questions on this very topic. Now might be the time to pose a properly framed follow-up question. For example... " You mentioned that film grain is in MEA. Can we toggle it on/off in the options menu?" I'm pretty sure that I kept that well under the ridiculously short Twitter character limit. If you still don't get a reply, you can fall back on the overwhelming visual evidence (all of the footage we have w/o film grain) which suggests that film grain is optional.

I freaking love film grain. I know it's cool to dislike it, but I love it. ME is a cinematic space opera, nothing says space opera better than green alien babes and film grain.
Since previous games either had no film grain or had the option to disable it, I don't see why ME: A would be any different.

It's like I was playing underwater, before!" The screen will be much more clear and vibrant.

Hello can we deactivate film grain!? it's horrible, film grain is for films, not for games! please Bioware if you reading this add an option todisable the film grain! Even for movies it's shitty - why? Because the grain once was a side effect of old technology (just like scratching sounds with old vinyl-records instead of CDs - some people love it while others would rather have brilliant audio-quality (I am on the quality side and don't understand the nostalgia for stuff that doesn't even sound or look good!)) So hopefully we can turn that off (just like motion blur!) greetings LAX

Yes. Source: My best friend's sister's uncle's barber who has a brother that works at Bioware said he saw the scenes himself. It's a bi option.
