I'm still struggling with the profile system and no class restrictions. I mean, Ryder can literally do everything, in turn, making Shepard (who was the greatest soldier to ever live) look like a chump in comparison. There better be a story reason why we can do this...SAM augmenting our abilities doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Ryder is OPd in my opinion. This does make for better game play though. I'm on the fence. You're equating gameplay mechanics to lore, and doing so across characters, platforms and stories. That just doesn't work. I was going to go into some mechanical detail, but Cypher largely addressed the main points. Shepard started the OT as an N7-- That's N (Special Operations) 7 (highest proficiency rating)-- with an impressive service record. By comparison, we don't know either Ryder twin's Alliance Vocational Code; but it's likely not overly impressive. They each had relatively short, uneventful careers. Shepard was gimped at the beginning of ME1 because we were starting a new IP. It happened again to begin ME2, because we reset the combat system, and "returned from the dead". If you imported a save file into ME3, though, Shepard was an unstoppable force of nature from the opening minutes of ME3. This is the Shepard to whom you really need to compare the young Ryders. Scott or Sara will become very capable, but they won't begin the game this way. They'll begin the game as young, former marines with special training and biotic potential. That's pretty damn impressive, but nothing next to an N7. If we get to see Alec in action, side by side with our fresh protagonist, the difference should be made manifest. Even at high levels, our new protagonist won't surpass Shepard, really. My ME3 Sheps were all versatile world-beaters. Rivaling or equaling Shepard in power, though, isn't so bad, is it? As you say, it's fun! Besides, N7s, and those of their sort, have to come from somewhere. There will be other badasses like Shepard, even if they never face anything like the Reapers. With MEA, we get to start the journey of a new badass. Ditto. Gamplay Mechanics # Lore. Shepard was always the best that humanity has to offer, it's just sometimes the gameplay was really clunky like in ME2 and its cover based combat system. ps:My Vanguard Sheploo was so powerfull that even using only a Avenger level I weapon to make insanity not too much easy i could kill pretty much everything with ease. Sometimes i would even slow down a bit just to let Garrus and Tali have some fun.

I'm pretty sure that part of both Scott's and Sara's backstories include short-ish stints with the Alliance before joining the Andromeda Initiative. Wasn't that in one of the earlier briefings? Whether or not they actually saw combat is unclear/maybe up to us to decide, but they've almost certainly received training prior to joining the Initiative and leaving for Andromeda. Yes, the male guarded some relay while with the Alliance (typical grunt, makes me sad that the male sibling got less "love" than his sister...maybe SJW-Agenda, pushing the female character? I don't know, but I kind of would love to play her first because of the background, but I guess I will be sticking with male for my first run - female second! Also: No, I don't have a problem with women, I just don't like it if one character in an RPG gets less attention etc.) while his sister was more lucky and got to escort (babysit!) some scientists looking into Prothean ruins So yeah, the twins do have basic combat skills and know how to use weapons etc. greetings LAX

I'd actually really dig a Grand Theft Auto weapon training style thing. The more you use pistols or rifles, the more small bonuses you get. Improvements to accuracy, reload speed, weight reduction, etc.
Doubt we'll get it thought considering how streamlined and straightforward so much of the gameplay looks.

No because they have had weapon training from both their father and the alliance. As their father is military and they did do a tour of duty with the Alliance before joining the Andromeda Initiative so beyond the tutorial which likely comes up in the prologue to help us understand the basics I doubt we'll need moer than that.

Question may have been asked and if so I apologize. Will it show or explain how you learn weapon skills or maybe more interestingly biotic or tech skills? Like if I specialize in biotics will it explain how I learned those abilities? Gun training is probably covered by being the child of a special forces soldier. To me at least, it makes sense for a dad to teach his kids that stuff. Marksmanship training is something everyone in the military goes through, even if you signed up to be a cook, an admin clerk, or a band member. Since they were both in the Alliance, they both should have had training with a variety of weapons during their military service. Mass Effect even borrowed a slogan from the US Marines for the Alliance: "Every Marine a rifleman." Ashley says it in ME1.
