I'm playing DA:I for the first time right now (almost done), and it scares me shitless. While there is some good stuff in that game, there is such a high number of bad design decisions that I hope just don't make it into ME:A. But I look at ME:A previews and I see similar designs... Here's a short list of bad stuff in DA:I (that I hope don't make it in ME:A): -Inventory interface -Crafting interface -"searching" for lootables (I hate the joystick click button on controllers, they're so unatural to use) -Stoping a few seconds every time I pick up a flower -Too many readables. I don't believe anyone bothers reading anything after 1 hour into that game, it's overwhelming. -Boring party members. Out of 9 party members, I liked Dorian and Bull, and to a lesser extant Cassandra. The rest are either bland or downright annoying. Party members were always interesting in Mass Effect games, so hopefully it will be the case again. I hope that with a smaller cast, each one will be interesting. -Vast empty areas: This one I'm scared will be in ME:A -Hinterlands: Vast and loaded with side quests, to the point of being overwhelming. Quite the opposite of every other hub area in the game. -War table at the far end of a long corridor: What the fuck were they thinking, I go there all the time and it's so far away! -The mini-map that actually doesn't show terrain features. Whhyyyyy -And a metric ton of other small annoyances that any good designer should have spotted and improved before releasing this game...

If I finish Horizon: Zero Dawn before the Origin Access trial starts, I may attempt to play some Inquisition.

I bought it a month or two ago when the GOTY edition was on sale. Played it only a handful of times on some old saves to finally play some of the DLC. Once I finished the trespasser dlc I tried a few new characters and tried firing back up some level 9 saves that I abandoned but it just wasn't the same. Too much walking around. and not enough good looking armor for me to want to play it, that and I'm in a space kinda mood right now.

I've done multiple playthroughs of DAI and I am sure I will do more in the future but it feels more appropriate to be playing the Shepard trilogy over the next few weeks while I wait for MEA.

Well, it's not like you have to stomach everything. Unless you're playing Nightmare/Walk Softly/Take It Slow, I guess. I'm replaying now myself. Since I'll need a new PC before playing ME:A, no rush to finish. Tell that to the Hinterlands any other location in that game. It's a grind fest, not into that anymore. I was just pointing out that "everything" was ridiculous. You don't have to do that much in the Hinterlands, of course. To get to Val Royeaux you need 4 Power. That's, what, closing two low-level rifts, starting one camp, and one requisition. (If the requisition isn't one you run into everything for you could shoot a few rams; Varric can one-shot them, the quest turn-in is near a fast travel point, and you can't go anywhere without running into rams.) You get all 4 points back unless you skip recruiting Sera and Vivienne. Then you walk over to Dennet, gain 3 points (1 for the Inquisitor's horse, one for an easy rift, one for the camp), and you're one point away from being able to go anyplace.

I have to keep going from place to place, finish some silly ass sidequests like the horse one, it also doesn't feel right to leave the Hinterlands without dealing with the mages, templars and refugees, so i feel the need to do those fetch quests so that I dont break my immersion, but these quests are so tiresome and repetitive with zero narrative or player input that it becomes a chore, and there's more situations like this spread over other maps, and then the whole experience feels like a grind. I just can't.

-"searching" for lootables (I hate the joystick click button on controllers, they're so unatural to use) I take it joining the Glorious PC Master Race isn't an option? What's the actual problem with "overwhelming"? Too much content is a bad thing because... I can't finish the sentence. The 'why" is easy, though I don't think you'll like the answer. Part of the gameplay is about mastering difficult terrain. If the map was better , it would tell you what you need to do instead of you working out what you need to do.

Yes. But I always replay Inquisition. Until Skyrim hit, it was the only truly great RPG you could play on current gen systems. And I also still have a few things I have not done in Inquisition that I need to. Though it will get a breather when Andromeda hits.

I just can't. Ah, I get it. Yeah, the whole design seems a bit punishing to completionists, even when it's the RP side that's pushing you to completionism. I'm not subject to this myself, since if the RP works for me then the quest does too, but I see the point.

I considered the idea... But then I remembered how tedious some parts were and I gave up on the initiative.
It's the Hinterlands' fault, I think.

I'm... sort of replaying DAI? As in, I've played about ten hours between university work. Hopefully I'll have more time when Andromeda hits but I doubt it!

Still burned out. I learned to never attempt a completion run ever again. I did that in my 2nd playthrough because I "wanted to see how it affects the ending if I close all rifts and stuff". I was a fool. I also did Nightmare run which is surprisingly easy. Now I never have to do that again because I have the trophies. Last time I played on Casual and I loved it. Cut through the filler crap and focus on just getting enough power to do the interesting stuff and it's kinda like an actual BioWare game again. TBH, though, I just got my laptop back and ALOT texture mod has just been completely updated for ME2 and 3, so I might spend some time with those games and Ashley+Liara legacy mod and al that so ME3 looks like a continuation and not a reimagining. I also wanna play SWTOR. I really dug some of the new stuff I saw and i wanna get to that. The MMO-story game is still kind of magical to me, don't judge. I agree and that is how I approach Inquisition myself if I am going back to play the game I just have it on Casual/Normal and ignore a lot of the filler content, it feels like any other BioWare game I have played then. The two things that bugged me about Inquisition was how the side content didn't feel like it had a connection to the game and the menu system was mishandled, but at the same time felt a lot like Mass Effect 1, just with Dragon Age level of extra unwanted stuff.

Nope!
I have only one complete playthrough of DA:I, and it is unlikely I'll ever play the game again. While the character stories and main missions were mostly well done, there is just way too much filler and drudgery you have to tolerate to get to the good parts. DA:I is the only Bioware game I've ever played where completing it felt like a chore.
Instead I'm playing through the Shepard trilogy again. Besides having more of a connection to Andromeda, all three of the Mass Effect games were superior to DA:I. I also prefer Mass Effect to Dragon Age in general. There is more consistency between Mass Effect games, whereas with Dragon Age the writers keep taking a sledgehammer to the setting with each sequel and are continually tying to remake it. DA:I does not feel like it exists in the same universe as DA:O. DA:O was also the last great DA game, and the only one of that series worth replaying.

I spend my time visiting forums such as this one and playing an online game with people called forum mafia. I tried to get a game going here but there wasn't enough interest, sadly.

I am playing it for the first time atm (on run for each, though I made it through the first Act of DA2 second time before dropping it). I caught up on all the DA games in the past two months, save for DAI. Hopefully I finish the run before Andromeda. Really looking forward to the next ME installment, but want to really miss it by March 22nd too.
