Two different games, two different styles.
No Man's Sky is closer to a space sim game, Mass Effect is a space opera RPG, as far as we know.
Exploration can be in both, but for No Man's Sky it is the main focus of the game. For Andromeda the exploration should serve a purpose for the story.
It doesn't have to be overdone of course, but as long as it serves that purpose were good.

My hope is that ME:A's worlds are much more story driven than anything NMS has to offer, though I wouldn't say no to a base building side activity.

I do not own No Man's Sky but after watching couple of people play it I can tell it's purely a grindy exploration game. Fun in the beginning but gets boring after a while, for me at least. This shouldn't happen with the exploration concept of ME:A. Surely ME:A could apply some of the NMS aspects like resource collection for upgrading things (not hardcore) and more planets to explore which have unique ecosystems and life forms. Other than that I can't think of anything as both games focus for different things.

My hope is that ME:A's worlds are much more story driven than anything NMS has to offer, though I wouldn't say no to a base building side activity. Base/Colony building could be interesting. That is, a proper (main) colony that we help build out over time into a proper town. I wouldn't want to micromanage it's construction on the level of Fallout 4, but having some hand in it's design/defense would be fun. I imagine there'll (also?) be little bases established on various worlds for resources. And that's great so long as Space Preston isn't sending us out every 2 minutes to defend them...

I just hope the bulk of exploration and crafting is completely optional. Getting equivalent bonuses over from multiplayer or khet vault raids through combat gameplay should yield similar returns to spending time gathering resources.

I hope there is no resource gathering/crafting/colony building. This is Mass effect, not Bob the Builder in Space. I can almost 100% guarantee you that there will be some kind of colony building. Maybe not the FO4 route, whereby you have to design everything. But at least going to a planet, clicking "build colony", and watching a small cutscene. <<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>> Yes, I'm interested in this mechanic. How do we go about building a colony? Must we ourselves find a suitable colony world or can we send AI units with the "make colony" function?

I think we may have our AI defence units for that sortie. Didn't I read that these AI units get better if we level them up?

Based on my experience this weekend the review is pretty spot on. I am naturally curious. So, I spent about 5 hours exploring and learning the interface. I realized this after I looked up and realized I needed to run errands for the day. I made very little progress beyond my first planet and decided I needed to explore my planet's moon to mix it up a bit. By the time I was done I was literally starving for some good story content. After my errands were complete, I went to DAI and spent the rest of the day happy. I think I will keep NMS for those days when I'm too tired to focus or have a cold.

NMS is strictly exploration with trading and combat thrown in as "extras". It's definitely repetitive in resource gathering. The game's allure it finding stuff.
