Mac I'm sure, and as far as I know, each of the main 6 characters have their own writer, so that's 7. I'm sure there are more. I'd like to know this also.

Were: Chris Schlerf (Halo 4) - Lead Writer - Worked 2 years on it, left for Bungie Ann Lemay (ME3, Omega DLC) - Worked 3 years on it or more, left for Ubisoft
Are: Mac Walters - Lead (at some point) Cathleen Rosaeert (ME3) - Allegedly Lead Writer now Neil Pollner (ME3, Omega DLC) John Dombrow (ME2DLC, ME3) Luke Kristjanson (ME1&2) Joanna Berry (DA:I) Sheryl Chee (Dragon Age) Courtney Woods (SWTOR, DA:I-DLC)
So 10 writers in total give or take those that left (and most likely got replaced)

Wow and she said she poured everything into his character. If he's that good, then I am not doubting the game either.

Mac is creative director and I think when he became "Lead Writer" it was probably just for a time after Schlerf left. It could very well be that Rosaeert is lead now. I looked up her info online and she's got the credentials to be a good writer-manager it seems which is a big part of being lead aside from having the responsiblilty of main plot (which Schlerf has made for them)

The dialogue with daddy in the first 13 minutes video (which we won't spoil here!) it's very clearly Mac or Schlerf. I would honestly not be surprised if it was Mac's writing because it reminded me a lot of the circular dialogue from ME3's opening.

True. I also tweeted Sylvia about something Liara says in that mission and she told me "Sorry, I didn't write any dialogue for her on that mission, can't say!" so yeah, any writing flaws attributed to Vancouver, Mars or Priority Earth is on Mac, lol.

I can't fault Mac too much. He did give us Garrus, but yeah, I suspect most of the scenes that felt off for me (character-wise) were ones he worked on lol

Chris Schlerf's involvement is the only reason I think the main plot will be top notch. Not sure how many actually played Halo 4, but it by far has the best story out of any of the main series Halo games. I have a feeling MEA's plot may indirectly have a lot of similarities to Halo 4, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's also good BioWare isn't relying too heavily on its own veteran writers too much, as it's beneficial to bring in new blood for fresh ideas.

I completely disagree, but I aknowledge that it was a more detailed narrative (except more than half of the necessary detail was omitted from the actual game and left in the tie-in novels so I understood jack shit when I played it)
Halo 2 and 3 are far more emotionally engaging, entertaining and sharply written IMO. Halo 4 has just as many contrivances as Halo 3, just in a more serious tone and with a dryer script. The characters have personality in the Bungie Halo games. In H4 they're wooden and humorless.

Halo 4 has just as many contrivances as Halo 3, just in a more serious tone and with a dryer script. The characters have personality in the Bungie Halo games. In H4 they're wooden and humorless. I don't deny that a lot of context is lost if you haven't read the novels. However, if you have that knowledge, it's far superior to anything Bungie ever wrote. Halo 2 and Halo 3 ruined Master Chief by making him the ultimate Mary Sue while making a circus out of the Covenant. Only Halo: Combat Evolved had a halfway decent story that was actually coherent. Bungie lots its marbles with nonsense like the Gravemind, the terrible cliffhanger at the end of Halo 2, Master Chief surviving planetary re-entry, and overall the complete abandonment of any reason or logic for deus ex machina "cool" moments. Master Chief has zero personality in the Halo trilogy. He barely even speaks. Halo 4 was the first time he actually had a personality, showing that he wasn't the perfect superhuman Bungie made him out to be. Cortana also gave an incredibly emotional and gripping performance as she spiraled into rampancy. That dual performance between Chief and Cortana was a masterpiece, with it ending on a tragic note concluding a very beautiful friendship. Clearly, we have very different views of the storytelling in the Halo series. I always felt Bungie were hack writers. What they did well was gameplay and multiplayer. The rest was rather atrocious and barely tolerable. I'm looking forward to MEA because I know Schlerf is actually a competent writer who can dive deep into the lore of the source material.

If only the likes of Chris L'Etoile were involved(he wrote the best stuff in Mass Effect 2, specifically the Legion stuff and some Omega & Illium stuff. The best sci-fi bits of the game imo. I liked the depth, the nuance and the slow, serious, cerebral style he brought. He was involved with Mass Effect 1 as well. I feel like Bioware dont have that same high quality calibre of writer any more. Along with the likes of Drew Kapashyn, theres now been a marked downgrade in the writing at Bioware today, something they were once so famed for. Sad really). But my ideal writers would be the guys at Obsidian, now imagine the awsomeness if they wrote the script, but alas one can only dream. I just hope this game avoids the cheese and cringe inducing writing that was all over Dragin Age: Inquisition. The writing was awful too many times in that game. If Mass Effect Adromeda can do that, that's a step in the right direction.

I hope the writing is good. You know they are trying to make an effort because in the first 10 minutes of the game they have Alex Ryder state
' We're marooned, 20,000 souls adrift at sea, and when the power runs out and stays out,we need to know if that's safe harbour'.
But is it anything like Sovereigns speech?
'We have no beginning. We have no end. We are infinite. Millions of years after your civilization has been eradicated and forgotten, we will endure.
We are legion. The time of our return is coming. Our numbers will darken the sky of every world.
We are eternal. The pinnacle of evolution and existence. Before us, you are nothing. Your extinction is inevitable. We are the end of everything.
We impose order on the chaos of organic evolution. You exist because we allow it, and you will end because we demand it.
Rudimentary creatures of blood and flesh. You touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.
There is a realm of existence so far beyond your own you cannot even imagine it. I am beyond your comprehension. I am Sovereign.
Reaper? A label created by the Protheans to give voice to their destruction. In the end, what they chose to call us is irrelevant. We simply... are.
Confidence born of ignorance. The cycle cannot be broken.
The pattern has repeated itself more times than you can fathom. Organic civilizations rise, evolve, advance, and at the apex of their glory they are extinguished. The Protheans were not the first. They did not create the Citadel. They did not forge the mass relays. They mere found them - the legacy of my kind.
My kind transcends your very understanding. We are each a nation - independent, free of all weakness. You cannot grasp the nature of our existence.
We have no beginning. We have no end. We are infinite. Millions of years after your civilization has been eradicated and forgotten, we will endure.
We are legion. The time of our return is coming. Our numbers will darken the sky of every world. You cannot escape your doom.
Your words are as empty as your future. I am the Vanguard of your destruction. This exchange is over...

Patrick Weekes is the loss I mourn the most from the Mass Effect team. Loved that guy. I can't really fault him objectively. You can tell he knows his shit, and also with Solas and such in DA:I's Trespasser DLC, but somehow I was never that impressed. His humor is super corny and geek-like which shows, he sugarcoats a lot of his characters too like when he took on Jack in ME3 and his fanboyism for Tali also made her a little annoying to me. The way she suddenly fawns over Shepard in ME2 (Drew wrote her in ME1 where she was a blank slate) and how she goes with you despite the internal canon logic that she shouldn't in ME3 etc. He also wrote the majority of Citadel side quests in ME3 and he came up with the idea of "ambient quests" and "ambient conversations" and "ambient support conversations". I can't know if it was him working with the limitations of 3's design or if it was him going "Hey guys, I think the dialogue is intrusive because it's cinematic, it would be better if it were ambient so it's IN the world as you're playing". A LOT of my grievances with 3 are attributed to the way he handled his task of writing much of the Citadel's content. But I love that he actually took the time to also let stuff like revealing Tali's Father's data happen or get her exiled and stuff. His subplot on Rannoch also has the best RPG feel in how much dialogue and underlying systems there is. The way the trust of the Quarians vs the Geth is handled in the branching dialogues and autodialogues is fantastic, and I loved you could punch Han'Gerrel. He's good, but I found a lot of the characters he had incidentally written in ME3 to be a little annoying, but again, it's all personal preference.

Obsidian would do an amazing Mass Effect game, as I always preferred their work on KOTOR II over BioWare's work on KOTOR I. There's no way Electronic Arts, let alone BioWare, would ever allow a third party studio to work on one of their IPs. Not to mention, BioWare and Obsidian had a falling out over how KOTOR II was handled.

No, Drew is done with SWTOR and working on an unnanounced game right now. It might be new IP or a return to a past franchise.
He did have a complete hiatus from the company between 2012 and 2016.
